This was one of my biggest keys to ease the learning curve of Civ 4, back in the heady days of this forum. ;)
It's still great advice, and the resulting level of nuance makes for better gameplay than is found in the later "civ" iterations.
IMO self-imposed rules are kind of a pseudonym for role playing, which a lot of civ'ers do whether they realize it or not. Basically it's a way to make the game play cater more directly to your tastes and remind yourself that it's a game, the rules are arbitrary.
:goodjob:
What difference does it make; it's worse typically to have enemies at your gate than in yonder culturally plucked swamp. The GW is stronger than you give it credit for, or at least I would like to see a more compelling argument for why it should be boosted. :mischief:
All I can say, is that the University of Sankore is a disappointing wonder given the cost, unless your empire is quite large and presumably stuck between wars (low slider, less foreign trade routes).
Caveat: before Scientific Method it offers a considerable boost between temples and...
Reducing the cost is unnecessary IMHO if you are also boosting the wonder.
IND civilizations won't think twice about building expensive wonders, add an enabling resource to the equation and... well I think that's why some of them are so costly.
I think you are being deliberately obtuse.
Once you admit that reality and realism are subjective, certainly in this context, I feel your argument is defeated. But that would be taking the easy way out. I think the more compelling "evidence" is the advent of games (or at least modes of games)...
^ Why is that such a sticking point?
mynystry explains his position:
Possibly relevant: my own feeling about the 1UPT.
If I could venture to guess at his view of 'challenge' and 'fun', he finds the SoD to be intuitive and that simple fact makes combat intrinsically more enjoyable. We...
Camikaze, since you admit some degree of unfamiliarity with the mechanics of Civ4 I will preface my comments by conceding that my own understanding of Civ5 is somewhat limited.
Off the cuff, I can say that my own experience with the Civ4 civics has been positive. I find the choices and...
If you had said these words a few years ago, we could take you for a prophet. :hatsoff:
It's almost surreal the lengths the designers went to, just so they could shoehorn in an unwanted concept...
Lol!
Well... not to belabor the point, but what kind of crappy ambiance loops every five or ten seconds? That and the fact that the ingame music comes to an abrupt halt; it's a dissodant chord in an otherwise polished game experience.
One more vote for playing custom tunes. :yeah:
