Do we have to kill the wizard before winning?

Or is completion date the later of killing/willing?

From reading it, it seems we need to win a VC after killing the Wizard for it to count.

1. The rules state - 'You must find and destroy the Wizard of Oz. Any team not accomplishing this will not be considered for the Laurels.'

So this implies the wizard must be dead or alive by date of victory condition. I read it at first as though he had to be dead before your victory. This needs to be clarified.

2. What is the deciding factor if 2 teams finish with the same finishing date. Highest score?

3. I assume DS is free to sign up to another team? :mischief:

If i had to guess I'd say a Civ like how the Seers were in BoTM 43.
Seems like quite afew new people (including me) are going to be joining this SGoTM so maybe some new Teams will be formed. Once the questions are answered we'll all have a better idea about what its going to be like :)

I'm sure neilmeister will answer some of your questions in the fullness of time. Meanwhile, he as a curtain to hide behind. :)

Sorry guys:

Leader: Dorothy is Philosophical & Charismatic
Speed: Normal
Map Size: Standard

The Wizard of Oz must be dead the turn you win. So you cannot win and then go look for him!

No comments regarding if he is a Civ or a Unit, you have to find out.

I bet he is a Giant Death Robot

Is there some guarantee that the Ai won't in some dumb manner accidentally take out the wizard of Oz either by deleting the unit / razing a city or wiping out the entire race.

In any of these instances it might be the case we never find the wizard albeit unlikely. It would upset the balance of the game if one team got lucky.

A second issue that probably should be asked. Are teams permitted and allowed to use the flying camera trick and the go to trick to determine map terrains or should this be banned this game with an understanding of good will no team will use it. Best to say yes or no now and stop a debate later.

Oh yes. I bet out of the three american leaders, it would be Lincoln (a.k.a. Dorothy in the SGOTM). Oh man, this SGOTM will be hot for me, a good beginning for someone like me who has no experience in succession games. :D

I really wonder what kind of map it is but I suppose this is a part of mystery...

EDIT: I'm sure Neilmeister made a very evil map...I must be careful...if I go to psychopathic mode.

:mischief: Oopsie. I was about to use this trick for my first SGOTM. And already people are talking about ban. (I thought it was impossible to mod in order to kill that trick.) Too bad then.

I don't think you can mod it out. That's why I used the term 'good will'. There is an element of trust in these games. Personally if every team maps out map using these tricks it removes part of the fun of the game.

Flying Camera Trick is not banned, as it cannot be verified that it was used or not. So, use it if you want.

I can't guarantee that the Wizard of Oz will not be eliminated by the AI. But how about this:
I will check all the teams saves periodically, and if an AI eliminates him without the team being aware, then I will let that team know.

My understanding may be quite naive(well it IS naive!), but flying camera mode does require a change in the CivilizationIV.ini...isn't it possible to have a program verifying if we play each session with the original CivilizationIV.ini with flying camera mode off (that "=0").

Usually, I don't believe "good will" (I'm f**ked up in real life regarding confidence), so pragmatic restrictions work best (laws, punitive actions).

EDIT: What I wrote was before Neilmeister definitive comment above.

Honestly, I don't know why folks keep bringing up the flying camera deal. It is a delivered feature of Civ and there is not much you can do about. If you bring it up, then you start another round of useless heated debate and arguments. It is freakin' annoying. Get over it already. (Bringing it up...only...makes it an "issue" and a topic of "good will" or not. Fact is, many teams have been using it for a long time.) As far as I'm concerned, it is a non-issue.

Neil - So if the Wiz dies before we can get to him, then it is game over for us. This is probably something that should be clearly stated in the variant rules.

Its probably possible, but not practical. The ini file is modified for lots of genuine reasons, indeed we insist that it is modified to adjust the autosave interval.

So, in order to stop FCT use, we would need to either provide everyone with a mandatory ini file or get them to register their own. The Mod would then need to check this file every time the game is loaded to ensure it is the correct one. The Mod would probably need to communicate with a web service to verify this status, which would mean not being able to play offline.

As you can see, its quickly getting complicated and restrictive.
