News: SGOTM 03 - Sign Up Thread

Sorry for late answer (hope it is not too late....)

1. Vanilla
2. Monarch
3. One GOTM submitted, several completed
4. No
5. No team (yet I hope).

First try at SGOTM, hope to enjoy it as much as I enjoy GOTM (thanks AlanH btw).

Please include me in footballguys, the game formed by culdeus. I've played one succession game, but I've never played a GOTM. Vanilla only for me, thank you.

Please include me as well in the footballguys game started by culdeus. Thanks!
1. I can play either, I'm more familiar with vanilla
2. I'm most comfortable playing prince.
3. I played one Civ4 GOTM games before, but never submitted it.
4. I have not played any succession games or SGOTM before.
5. Please add me to the footballguys group culdeus has started.

Thanks!

Please don't use this thread for discussions about the game. It is purely a sign-up thread, and sign-ups could get lost in other debates.

If there's a demand for a pre-game thread I'll open one, but in previous games this sort of discussion has taken place in the team threads when they are opened, keeping strategies private.

Looking at the team preferences we have currently:

- Gipsy Kings, Memphis Blues, Murky Waters look like Vanilla teams, but igelkott, Frederiksberg, cas prefer Warlords.

- Trash Team looks like a Warlords team with cabert preferring Vanilla.

I shall assume that these players are happy to fall in with their chosen teams' preferences unless I'm advised otherwise.

@ AlanH

Fifth Element, after a poll in our SGotM2 thread, decided:

- we'll play Warlords (we think it's hardest than vanilla, but it's hardest for all)

- team formation:
Blubmuz
BrianS
Doom Train
Merum
Sweetacshon

- We are fine in 5, but if Perugia decides to join, we'll welcome him, or if you have some stray guy, feel free to ask, we can probably find room.
- We'll have no captain, i'll be the "spokesman"

133 sign-ups to date. Still 15 down on SGOTM 2, but not bad.

I'll draft team lists later today, so if anyone else is planning to sign up, now would be a good time to do it. It would also be good to tell me now if I have your preferences for version and team wrong in the list in Post #3.

What is the drop dead date and time for signups? I'm seeing if a multiplayer buddy of mine is interested in signing up, if it is not too late ... ?

I'm assigning teams now, but there's no hard and fast rule, we accept sign-ups even after the game has started, though their choices rapidly become more limited as time goes on from now on.

Good to know and glad to hear its flexible (within limits).

Thanks for the info, and for all the work you guys (and gals?) do for the rest of us!

Now at 140 signups. :) I'm waiting for replies to a few PMs I've sent out. So the draft team lists will now happen tomorrow. Sorry for the delay.

@AlanH: 1) Do we know yet if we will be needing the cross-platform mod for vanilla?

2) Indulge me if its already posted (search 200+ posts on dial-up? Ouch!), but are there separate laurels (and spoons) for Vanilla and Warlords? From the first post, and the Russian changes between the two, sounds like the play will be different enough to merit two sets.

Maybe put the answer in post 1 as well?

C.Teams will compete for up to four awards for each version of the game - the Gold, Silver and Bronze Laurels for the fastest finishes, and the Wooden Spoons for the lowest scoring finisher. The number of awards in each game will depend on the number of teams.

From post #1 in this thread.

Never mind! :hammer2:

I will have to get my eyes examined! (but first, I need to get my head examined  )

I saw the mention of laurels in the top in the "game" section, but missed the additional detail under notes (I had looked to see if it was in the first post, but did not look hard enough ... sorry! :worship: )

There are only two sign-uup from Mac players as far as I can tell. Dojoboy has signed as a lurker, and has a PC that he can use if he decides to play a turn set. Puddleduck was worried about being the only Mac player, necessitating a new mod for all Windows vanilla players, and has very generously offered to stand down for this game.

So the vanilla game will be played with the standard HoF Mod, version 1.61.008, as featured in the latest GOTM, complete with its fixes for overflow hammers and so on.

Time constraints will prevent me from actively participating in this SGOTM. But I'd like to sign on as a dedicated lurker/potential alternate for Team Smurkz.

Smurkz are soon going to have more lurkers than players :hmm:
