Scythia Horseman Rush - And You Thought Companion Cavalry Rush Was Ridiculous In Civ V Vanilla

Nice work as always Martin! I'd like to add that I think Sumeria is equally absurd. War carts are available from the get go and are 30 strength, no maintenance, and immune to anti-cav bonuses. They basically cheaper horsemen available without teching anything. I've been beelining maneuver as...

    Russia First Look [Peter]

Fair enough. I do like the Eagle warrior though I'm skeptical of how useful it will be at higher difficulty levels (obviously insane whenever warriors can trade effectively). Conquistador sounds cool but I'd rather my military units be better in combat as I can just convert after conquering if...

    Russia First Look [Peter]

First off, several others have made these points but I feel they are in need of more explanation so my apologies if this seems repetitive. Anyway, here's my take after watching many LPs and obsessing about day one strategy. UA: As many have said it's the Shoshone bonus on steroids in a game...

    The Deity Challenge Line-up #34 - Egypt

Side note: @Stormtrooper very impressive updating of the spreadsheet. Posted VC #5 yesterday and already updated. That's dedication!

The Deity Challenge Line-up #18 - Babylon OCC

Had a good start with ToA and HG by T50. VC was slower than expected. I might go back an replay from my HG save to see what I messed up.

    The Deity Challenge Line-up #28 - Russia

Nothing too special here. 6C Liberty, turtled until Combined Arms (~T190), then built/bought 20 tanks and conquered. Once again could have ended sooner, I think, if my strategy was better. Also, I found out that if you switch Ideology Clausewitz's Legacy stays active (as does Lightning Warfare...

    The Deity Challenge Line-up #33 - Songhai

Complicated map. And the first time I actually used carriers (though battleships would have been enough). Still, took several tries: Tiring game but enjoyable.

    The Deity Challenge Line-up #31 - Ottomans

After a failed attempt at 4 city Tradition, I gave the spoilers a look and decided to copy the 6 city Liberty strategy Acken used. Note a noteworthy finish but a fun game. Time to get cracking on Songhai. Thanks again for these. Needed to distract myself from my dissertation somehow. lol.

    The Deity Challenge Line-up #32 - England

Hi. Haven't played in a while but stopped by the forums and these challenges looked like fun. Anyway, thanks for listening to me and for posting these.

    No geothermal from conquered city

Definitely seems like a bug. That said, once I researched teraforming, I built a terascape for one turn, canceled, and rebuilt the geothermal mine. Worked fine. That said, looks like you can't get resources if you don't have the relevant tech prior to building the improvement. Until this is...

What's the fastest science rate you've managed?

So, here's a 1k science per turn around turn 200. Had about 500 SPT at turn 170 and won on turn 222. Probably could have won ten or so turns earlier but was going for emancipation for the first time and built my institute too early and had to take a non-relevant tech. Upshot: Go wide, rush...

    No geothermal from conquered city

On my most recent game, I conquered an AI city which had a pre-built geothermal mine. After researching the geothermal tech, I did not receive the 5 geothermal that the mine ought to provide. Is this a bug or am I missing something? Save game attached.

Planet carver slingshot with slav fed

Turn 91 Astrodynamics. Could have gotten it a few turns sooner but had to prepare for Brasil's preemptive strike.

Which Beliefs do you favor ?

I think 10% growth is strong. It requires no work to get the maximum benifit and combo's well with the rest of the tradition tree.

Do you find difficulty levels harder to play in G&K?

While the early game is paced slower, A.I aggression seems up on Deity. Might just be variance but in 5 games ive been DoW'd in the first 25 turn every time. Additionally, the AI doesn't just throw 5 warriors away and retreat. You can generally expect 3-5 spearmen/warriors with 2-3 archers/cat's...

G&K seems a notch more difficult than vanilla

Games definitely feel a bit more challenging, though whether it's due to new mechanics or not I don't know. Early game pacing seems slower for sure. That said, the top deity AI is still launching around T270, so late game teching seems roughly about the same. Also, i've only played around 3...

    How many turns?

Things will probably change now that G&K is out, but on Deity/Standard/Pangaea turn 200 science is possible; although around 235 is more consistent/realistic (for context, Deity AI launches around turn 250-300). Domination games usually go later in my experience, but you can pull off Diplo...

    Academy or bulb?

Pretty much always bulb, unless you're Babylon and beeline writing. In which case, you can make a decent argument for settling. For your example, I'd certainly grab CS and Steel...longswords are dominant till the AI gets to late renaissance.

Is there a way to prevent a civ from DoW?

Getting to 3 warriors seems to keep the AI off til about T50 or so, after that it just depends on who your neighbors are and whether or not the RNG is kind. Bribing civs that you think might DOW you into wars helps, but the only thing that seems to be consistent id DoFs. On deity im generally at...
