Help me teach a friend a lesson

I believe the idea is that you get the cities by capturing them from your opponent. Although, if it's a two-player game, you would probably win before you could make much use of them. From what I know of the Quechua rush, its strengths lie in how early it can be done (and in almost any...

What to do with Great Generals?

Whenever I get a Great General, I'm always unsure of what to do with him. All three of its abilities - settle, build Military Academy, or attach to unit as Warlord - seem roughly equally useful (depending on situation). (But I am generally hesitant to create a Warlord because I often end up...

King of the World #16: Julius Caesar

Great game, Neal. You can hardly tell it's Deity. About the quest, I think you should take the free CR for all Praets. -It would allow you to make CR2 (later, CR3) Praets right off the bat; -You will eventually upgrade those Praets to Gunpowder units, and you'd retain the CR promo on...

What leader traits do you prefer?

I play at Noble level, so I have a different view of some traits which are more or less useful on different levels. Organized is (as I learned in another thread) more helpful on higher levels as there's more maintenance. (Expansive is another trait that may be better on higher levels because...

    Techs from goody huts

You can get a tech that you are currently researching. (I suppose there's no reason you wouldn't be able to get a tech you have partially researched, either.) I'm not sure whether there's a limit to how advanced techs from huts can be. It is a little silly if you think about it...tribal...

Who is your favorite new leader in bts?

It's probably because I'm not a big fan of the Organized trait. I'm a low-level player though; maybe it's more useful on higher levels (increased maintenance?). Hmm, perhaps I will give Darius a try, since he sounds like a powerful leader (Financial + Organized + Immortals).

    Religion: Observations and reflections

^ Apart from religion, she isn't very strong. In fact, that may be because of her preoccupation with religion. She spends time building missionaries when others are building military and buildings. At least that's based on my experience playing against her...a lot does depend on the map and...

Help an old Civ player who battles to work out Civ4 BTS

Espionage: Yes, you can steal techs, although it can be pretty expensive. Capturing cities: I don't know how much siege you have, but a common problem (I had this problem for some time) is not enough siege. I'm not a very advanced player so I don't know the exact amount of siege to bring, but...

Huns: Organized Barbarians or Established Empire?

This idea is a lot better than the current barbarian random events: a big stack that appears right outside your borders. It might still be a little unfair; it would be like playing on Raging Barbs while everyone else is on normal, but I think more barbarian events should be like this.

    Game Advice?

^ If that citizen is unhappy, the tile won't get worked anyway. Also, you should know that if you and JC are the same religion when you declare war, your citizens will suffer further unhappiness bonuses for "We refuse to fight our brothers of the faith".

King of the World #15: Ragnar

Perhaps playing Rome on Deity would be a more traditional and predictable, but still entertaining, game.

Huns: Organized Barbarians or Established Empire?

The problem with this is that it would basically be game over for whoever got that random event. As it is, some of the barbarian uprising events are an automatic game breaker. Might be more realistic - after all, the Roman Empire did succumb to barbarians - but in a computer game, it wouldn't be...

Who is your favorite new leader in bts?

Although Augustus Caesar was introduced in Warlords, his traits were changed in BtS - I like the Ind/Imp Augustus better than the Warlords version (Cre/Org). Actual new leaders I like: Willem, De Gaulle, Gilgamesh, Justinian. Zara, Darius, and Hammurabi are great but I don't like the...

    Underrated UUs/UBs

Fast worker has a visible advantage over standard workers, but not so much that it's the best UU. It doesn't build improvements faster, it just moves faster. So yeah, it can get around quicker, and perhaps save a turn when moving onto forest or hill, but IMO that doesn't make it #1. ^ I play...

King of the World #15: Ragnar

Probably part of it was the start. Without raging barbs, that start normally gets more barbarian attack than others, so it's not surprising that under Raging Barbarians, the pressure is even greater. IMO, AH is not so necessary and can be researched later.
