2017 Australia Patch - Combat AI...?

I've been playing as Spain on Emporer and there has been a lot of conflict in my game which has been really good to see. Japan has slowly steamrolled Norway and captured multiple cities (I intervened to keep the Norwegians afloat). Rome has runaway with tech on the other continent. I just...

    Has production scaling gotten worse?

I think the major problem is just how damn clunky the game UI is and the amount of time you spend waiting every turn. Some thoughts: 1. The diplomacy screens really distract - especially how it loads up a leader for their little speil - then it loads into another screen explaining the game...

    infantry promotions

Just wanted to comment that the names should probably be around the other way. In WW2 the Soviet Shock Armies were equipped for and tasked with urban combat - e.g. the final assault on Berlin. Conversely to successfully execute a Flank march required extremely good discipline and coordination...

    Same worldwide pricing

I'm from New Zealand, The average wage here is FAR lower than in Australia - but we are also hammered by the same ridiculous price increase. I wouldn't have particularly minded if it had just started out at $89 - the issue is that the price is clearly completely disconnected from the cost...

My friend ICS got shot in the head

Also you still get a lot of gold from plots. You just have to look for sea/luxury resources and keep your city populations sensible. Also trading post spam still works (especialy with commerce).

    Tourism?

No but Tourism is a deadly weapon if you go for it. I played my fist G&K game as France and flipped a size 19 city to me - foolish Americans choose Order and my Freedom was too much for them :) I won a very early cultural victory that game so didn't get to fully explore the end game. But...

Building the Great Library or not?

There isn't a lot of point having a lot of tech if you don't have the hammers to build anything or the pop to use it! But it has its place - I built it in Paris for the tourism - the free tech was a bonus that got my Writers guild up faster. Realistically the only other tech you will be...

The Religion game is impossible now

All I'm seeing here is that Venice built Stonehenge for you and you haven't conquered it yet? :)

My friend ICS got shot in the head

I think filling out liberty fast is worth it for a couple of reasons: 1. Getting settler out as you can't just buy them 2. Great Prophet with the free GP - you don't even need a Pantheon to found a religion that way and don't even need to build any shrines early on Whichever way you slice...

    2 minutes until unlock :D

Exactly - not having a worldwide release in this day & age is inexcusable. I bow down and lick your feet oh mighty Americans please gods of Gabe let Steam unlock CiV so that I can get some sleep before work tomorrow.

The New France - Farming culture simply briliant

How much bonus tourism was the UA netting you? I think that would be the key question that needs answering in order to make any type of objective evaluation. I don't have the game yet (unlocks tonight) but I was planning on playing France first. This strikes me as a very passive approach...

The "cities tech cost" and it's implications

Living in the UK I'm yet to have the pleasure of playing BNW - BUT it seems there are quite a lot of potentially handy new things for wide empires. Faith generation can be pretty good if you go for piety and super-shrines. Combine that with the Jesuit Education reformation bonus (purchase tech...
