How to make the game remember your population setting?

The title may be confusing, but here's the deal - I have a city that emphasizes specialists, and the population is set up on farms. Last night, a barb walked by the city and I attacked it. When my troop left the city, the city became unhappy. When I moved the troop back into the city, the...

    Tips for Winning on Noble

Are you building courthouses in the cities you take? I've always found that after a good earlyish war where I've taken 3-4 cities from someone, my research drops significantly (usually to 40%) . I'll usually build a temple in these cities to build happiness and then build a courthouse. Once...

    Recycling Pollutes!

Of course landfilling isn't hazardous, especially when you can ship your mercury and lead filled CRT's to India for THEM to worry about it. Problem solved. Swedishguy, you can probably mod your game to *add* pollution with your recycling plant. You can share with us how the game is better.

    Oh no, It's Asoka!

One would think that this lovable peacenik Asoka would be a great competing civ, as he is not apt to get angry enough at you to start a war and destroy your grand schemes. Yet based on the events of two recent game I now feel the need to attack him SOON after meeting him. It seems that NO...

My 2 cities make 18 beakers, but I am generating 22 per turn. Eh?

Sorry I wasnt entirely clear - My setup - Vanilla Frederick - Creative and Philosophical No labs, I am VERY early in the game. As I recall the numbers from last night: City 1 produces 12 beakers. City 2 produces 6 beakers. City 1 has a library but the library is already factored...

Explain me how money work and trade/income

If I assume that the "Slider Bar" you refer to is the research slider bar (not the gold slider bar), if you have research at 80 that means your gold will be at 20. 20% of 4 is 0.8 which (I believe) the game truncates down to 0. If you set your research slider to 70%, then 30% of 4 = 1.2 which...

Explain me how money work and trade/income

Mat77 - If you are sitting on a 4 commerce square, you need to have your science slider NOT at 100% to see gold coming from the square. Where was your other 2 gold coming from? Set your slider at 50% and you will see 2 of the commerce from that square go to gold and 2 of the commerce go...

My 2 cities make 18 beakers, but I am generating 22 per turn. Eh?

I've been reading the various micromanagement threads and decided to try some of the techniques out. One of the first things I noticed was that I was generating more beakers than my cities were putting out. It was early in the game, I had 2 cities pumping out 18 beakers, yet my research was...

Explain me how money work and trade/income

    1. Someone needs to be working the wine tile. 2. If #1 is true, I am guessing you are at 100% science. Lower it to 0% and you will have 4 commerce coming in :).

Somebody really needs to teach me how to fight battles in Civ 4...

Illusion13, I am not an expert at this game by any means, but here are some of my strategies that I've used for battling. 1. If your opponent is catapult crazy, DO NOT leave your armies in a stack. I still make this mistake once in awhile and just last night I had a stack of infantry...

    Are faster animations possible?

Thanks Kate! I turned on "Single unit Graphics" and the battles are definitely shorter. The battles appear to be longer than 1/3rd of a battle which you'd have if Single Unit Graphics was not selected, but it is definitely an improvement. I didn't get a chance to play with "Combat Zoom"...

    Are faster animations possible?

Late game wars are my least favorite aspect of Civ IV because each turn takes so dang long. I usually retire if someone declares war even if I am more powerful if that person has huge stacks. I have tried to turn off "defensive battle" (whatever it is called-I am not in front of the game...

    Losing on the last play!!!!!

Last night I (as Isabella) played a noble vanilla game where I attempted a domination victory (having had my first domination victory EVER the previous game - hold your applause  ). After I nearly wiped a couple civs, I found that the 3 remaining ones had a defensive pact. As a result of...

Can I make city governor not touch the specialists?

I wish there was a way to force the game to tell you when a citizen is about to undergo a change in state (happy to non happy, specialist to regular person, etc). One time I was forcing a ton of culture in a city via artist specialists to help recover some land. That city went unhappy and...

How many cities do you build?

Hello, I am curious as to how many cities you build in a typical, say Noble, game. I usually play on the "plains" map, and take the default size. It seems that by the time the map is full around me, I get 6 cities built. For those of you that build more than 6, do you build the cities...
