Social and Economic Policies:
Porfirio’s Mexico is a social paradox. Any form of political dissent is swiftly and severely crushed. Any semblance of democracy has long been removed, after elections were suspended during the Martian Invasion. High government positions are given to close friends and key allies who support Porfirio’s regime. The media and court system are both controlled by the government. However, in his attempts to secure power, an odd form of social freedom has developed. In order to maintain his control, Porfirio was forced to balance the interests of several major factions. The Church was neither sheltered nor attacked by Porfirio. Similarly, the indigenous peoples were left largely to their own devices. The wealth and holding of the country’s elite citizens were left largely untouched. In most cases, the daily lives of most Mexicans were left unregulated.

The economy is heavily regulated and maintained by the government. This was born partially out of necessity, as many mines and other infrastructure fell into disrepair when foreign backers pull their investments. Many important industries (primarily the mining and agricultural industries) were nationalized and placed under government control. This has partially prevented a complete collapse of the Mexican economy, though severe cutbacks and shortages are still being felt even today. However, with the global stabilizing, there is talk of reopening the market to foreign investors.
Internal Politics:
The best description that can be applied to Porfirio's Mexico is that it is highly centralized. Through various methods, Porfirio had managed to consolidate all power in Mexico at the federal level, effectively removing all local authority and autonomy. All major decisions go through the President, and all leaders in the Mexican government, at all levels, answer directly to him.

We would also like to ask what you base your assertions that you caught up to us in Martain kill count in Europe on. Consider this: most other nations (the Antipapacy excepted) lost land to the invading Martians, while we gained it. And our superior Martian kill count was not only for that year, but the previous one as well (check the first spoiler here). By all accounts, during the period of the war we have records of, we were the most effective force against the Martians, and unless you caught up to us in the brief time between the start of our civil war & the plagues that wiped out the Martian invasion force, I find it quite likely that we remained the European nation with the highest Martian kill count.

As for your comment that, due to our lack of colonies, we remained behind in the rest of the world, we concede your point there.

The Brotherhood of the Pacific​

Honolulu, Oahu stands as the apex of a new and bizarre society. Stretching across the Pacific Ocean lies the Brotherhood of the Pacific, a patchwork confederacy born of liberal and anarchistic ideals that remained in the vacuum of the post-Invasion world. As the Martians began to die out, the remnants of the old order began to struggle with the ideals of the populace left behind, and the resulting struggle left in its wake a series of more-or-less self-governing islands, overseen by a diplomatic council seated in the ruins of the Hawai'ian islands.

Internally, the "nation" is comprised of an eclectic blend of people. Most obvious is the Brotherhood itself, a collection of anarchists-turned-leaders, now struggling between the dual ideals of total self-rule and the protection of the people they have inadvertently united. Alongside them are collections of native islanders, generally favoring the Brotherhood's rule, and the descendants of colonists and sailors, which either embrace the society or seclude themselves onto isolated islands, awaiting the return of the great powers of Europe.

These tenuous ties are held together by the massive "navy" of the confederacy, a mighty, albeit disjointed, collection of ships ranging from abandoned military vessels to retrofitted fishing boats. Martian technology has been actively scavenged and researched, in an attempt to utilize or recreate it for the confederacy's own use.

Ties with other nations tend to be rather haphazard, as the anarchic ideals of the Pacific tend to lead to multiple foreign policies, though most nations recognize the council in Oahu as the ruling body, if only for simplicity's sake.

Additionally, the Brotherhood requests admittance to the Conference as at least an observing power, and wishes to reaffirm its ties to the former colonizing powers of the region.

You had a comparatively tiny parcel of land with one front. We had four across a vast empire. We managed to win completely on one front, so that would seem to make us even in this pissing contest.

It doesn't matter weather you recognise claims or not. They were only put there as a guideline for what you might like to demand from the conference.
 
If you have such a vast empire that you can only properly defend one front then you obviously shouldn't be "protecting" Africa.

Update on the Birmingham Conference:

During the first days of the conference each nation put forward it claims on the territories that it wanted. The Antipapcy claimed all lands that had previously been french colonial and Germany did likewise claiming huge tracts of land that had belonged to Portugal, Belgium, Germany and Spain. Oman and Iceland devised a partition of east Africa that the Trade League itself agreed upon as part of its initiative to reduce colonial responsibility due to the weakened sate of the league. The ECHN contested the mutual agreed claims of the Antipapcy and Germany on the Congo Basin, this action was also supported by the League and Iceland. The Kingdom of the Two Sicilies Claimed land on the north coast of Africa only to be met with ridicule from other nations.

Egypt:
A general Partition of Egypt was agreed upon with the Trade League maintaining its claim on Egypt proper with the Ottomans taking Sinai. It seems to be that both nations will be cooperating on the subjugation of the Egyptian Rebels. Though the opinions of some nations (Wallachia) have suggested that there may be opposition to these actions.

The Final votes are about to commence with each attending nation being able to vote on each conflict separately.

Egypt sees the plots to invade our land and divide it like a cake a sure sign of the dillusion of the imperialists. The Republic and the people that make it up will not allow the Yellow Revolution to fail to the evils of the imperial swines! We bow only to God, whose love is married with justice! Hey guys, Robert didn't say this before, so I asked him about it in Skype, and apparently Mars destroyed 70% of all humans and the only land that wasn't assured to be in complete chaos was islands.

So anyone who says I didn't defend my land well enough is a grot.

Avignon held out for a comparatively long time against the Mars, with the Antipope himself directing the defense. Alas, it was not enough, and eventually the government was forced to flee to Rhodes, the last bastion of the once-great Antipapacy, aside from a few unreachable (and generally unknown) mountain holdouts. Surprisingly enough, at least half of the navy remained operational, and Ezio II spent the rest of the war having his fleet rescue people on the Mediterranean coast. When it finally ended, he was pronounced Pope and reigned one year before his death, rebuilding. Antipope Peter III, one of the few people still alive native to Malta, was elected, as he was a close friend and ally of Ezio II. Under Peter III the Antipapacy managed to regain some of its land, but was far more concerned with rebuilding than reconquering. His reign was uneventful, and by its end, most of the anticardinals who had survived the war died of old age. Now full of younger men who wanted revenge but had no outlet, Antipope Raynald I of Rhodes was elected, who managed to redouble the size of his holdings in only two short years by reuniting with northwestern Italy, sometimes almost by force but never entirely.

Raynald, fearful of another invasion from space, whether from Mars or some yet-unseen threat, began to rapidly industrialize his country, consulting with German engineers to prepare for the worst - and in the event of the best, he would simply have a better base to wage war from. Surprisingly, he was not entirely concerned with martial matters, realizing that the Antipapacy did not get as large as it did through war. Raynald began to pay musicians and painters to practice their craft for him and others, in the hopes of restoring his nation's cultural significance in the world - he would even go as far as not persecuting people for many religious "crimes." Indeed, artful men began to flock to his realm, so that they might lose themselves in their work. A new style was born, where men painted what they saw, and what they saw was light surrounded by darkness, but which was winning, they could not say.


Traits: industrial and cultural powerhouse, comparatively speaking; navy full of veterans
Flaws: religious "tolerance" annoys the old guard; army designed to work with the navy and not on its own (though specialist land divisions exist for landlocked regions)

What statement is this?! We are both enemies of the imperialists but you reguard us, a republic that gained independence, as a enemy?!

...in that case we hope that any other power that seeks to fight against imperialism stands forth to aid Egypt aginst the enemies of the Yellow Revolution.

  • Conservative party: This party is the dominant party... among the elite, anyways. Which basically means it runs Germany.It simply aims to maintain the status quo of German society.
  • Liberal Party: This party is, for the moment, widely popular with the working and poor class. However, unfair representation makes just about all the party's promises empty. Not that it's their fault. Only about 1.3% of the upper class support this party. It simply lacks the monetary funding to have them compete with the Conservative party. As a result, many of this party are starting to turn to the more extreme, underground movement.
  • The Workers of the Iron Cross: This group is not a political party but is picking up enough momentum to be considered important in national politics. The movement pretty much totally consists of former liberals who are tired of unfair representation, thus pushing them even further left in support of proletariat revolution. The exact number of its supporters are unknown, but their demands are very well clear. They want the elite to step down as leaders of Germany so that the revolution they seek may be peaceful. And if the elite does not comply soon, then a violent revolution it will be.

  • Children of the Industrial Empire: Germany was the home of the German Empire of the previous era, a nation well-known for its industrial prowess. The Kingdom of East Germany sees itself as inheritors of the great German industrial machine.
  • Internal Turmoil: The internal politics of Germany are in conflict as the hole between the rich and poor grows. The poor call for revolution; the rich demands a status quo.
  • Three Hurrahs for Germany: While the people are split ideologically, most people residing on German lands identify themselves as patriots and/or nationalists. Most of the people at least share this in common, rich and poor.
