Civ4 Temporary Leave Announcement Thread

Just a heads-up, until next Wednesday I have to read a book, write an essay about it, write two other essays and study for four exams (two on Tuesday, two on Wednesday), so I might be the teensy tiniest bit busy. Of course I could have done almost all of that spread out over the past weeks, but where would be the thrill in that?

Europe is strange. It is just the beginning of the year and already exams?

Beginning of the year but end of the semester.

Well there is Christmas break, than 3 weeks of sheer terror and no sleep, than semester break. Why? Because someone somewhere thought it was a good idea. /rant

Good luck with your exams ImpK, see you on the other side.

Semester has to end with the year. Finish exams right before Christmas and have a break! No wonder Europe is in crisis!

To be fair we have another break in February.

I am going away on Friday for a (big) weekend so I'll be off civ for a few days. But I should catch up in the middle for next week.

Some of you may remember I had eye issues last year, recently I have been struggling with my vision even with new glasses. Recently I had a follow up exam and discovered the pressure in my left eye is drastically high again. I've been prescribed eye drops and possibly needing a procedure to remove my lens, similar to cataract surgery. I'm alarmed and I feel the stress in my eyes when I'm looking at this screen. In addition after long days on the ROAD all I have been wanting to do is close my eyes and sleep once I get to my hotel each night. I have had one night during the week and one night over the weekend these past 2 weeks when I've felt good enough to play catch up.

I am seriously considering retiring from computer gaming although I am just as serious continuing :twitch: But I must consider my fellow players not having to wait long periods for me to play and pass turns on. Currently I am playing 19 pbem games here and 4 semi daily 2 player games, 3 of which I am Host, in addition 5 of those 19 I enjoy very much!

Erm, isn't that, like, a good thing?

He meant pressure, of course. Nothing to laugh about, as a son of an eye doctor I would personally recommend eclipse to retire immediately. This can be a sign of even more serious condition I don't even want to mention.

Eclipse - thanks for the heads up re your eye and the impact on pbem turn around. Your eye is much more important that any computer game ... look after it and you. Please let us know if there is anything that we can do.

Sorry to hear this development but as Tigranes says your health and eyesight is more important.

Thanks for your messages everyone,

this is basically strike 2 for me, normal eye pressure is 12~22 I don't know for sure what my pressure is and was but both then and now they classed me as critically close to damaging my optical nerve, I was immediately given an eye drop and was prescribed a nightly application for 2 weeks everything else is to be determined.

I'm going to post in the "Civ4 PBEM REPLACEMENT PLAYERS HALL" my games, first I guess to determine which games I can "Retire" as AI, the rest I don't want to give up for lots of reasons. It would not be fair to keep the games I really enjoy or the ones I HOST because I am in games that you guys HOST so I'm not sure what is going to happen yet???

Best 2 U & your eyes. :salute:

Shame that one can't even have fun doing something as simple Civ'g w/o some sort of issue arising. :badcomp:

Eclipse

I am so sorry this is giving you problems again take care and get well.

I'm locked out of Facebook, there's ants everywhere, I've got like a ton of homework and presentations to prepare, the bath and toilet are both clogged and my Internet connection now has broken down entirely (I'm posting this via smartphone hotspot.), so I can't make any guarantees about my availability over the next week or so, maybe longer maybe shorter.
The most crucial thing here is getting a new Internet service provider, one that doesn't completely suck, or if it does its hardware better be indestructible by hand. (Don't judge me, who of you wouldn't smash the WiFi box against a wall if it was always lagging at the worst possible moments when gaming? This btw may or may not be related to the fact that it's now broken entirely.)

Blerg, never mind a week, it'll probably be a month before I have reliable Internet again. I will of course still play turns to the best of my ability but as of now I am completely dependent on the hotspot ability of my smartphone.
