News: GOTM 24 Saves Available

it sounds like you have BtS, since those mods are BtS exclusive. Have you updated to BtS patch version 3.13? If you have, that'd explain why you can't load a vanilla Civ GOTM...for some reason, the new BtS patch changed the CvGameCoredll.dll in Vanilla(and Warlords?) If you can find a copy of the previous CvGameCoredll.dll, and replace it, you should be able to play.

I'm sure da_Vinci can copy and paste a thread that will tell you how and where to get this file ;)

Best I can do is point to posts # 7, #16, and #28 among others in this thread.

And the file itself will be on the original vanilla disk, maybe it can be copied from there? If not, then a reinstall may be needed.

The whole issue of distributing the original or new dll files is what has spawned the copyright discussion in some other thread.

There is a rumor that CFC had to buy a new server after I joined ... :D
don't worry, they probably changed the server after I started posting 100 messages/day, so you're not the cause ;)

I just realized that it's the WotM that ends on the 15th!
Now I rushed this one just to see that there isn't even a spoiler thread yet, and I'll never manage to finish the WotM in time:cry: .
Then again, WotM is immortal, maybe I'll manage a fast conquest loss tomorrow:blush: .

wow thx for the fast replies and questions for trouble shooting.

Okay great i just checked and confirmed one or two things. I can run the hof 1.74 mod in the vanilla civ Iv. My trouble is running hof in bts.

I am running bts 3.13 updated from ingame menu. I have dl'd and ran next war and fall from heaven mod. The hof mod does show up as HOf -3.03.001. When I try to run it, it seems like its loading it than I get a windows error. The error is just a general windows error sorry for the inconvenience and asks me if I want to send a report to ms or not. There is, on the left side, a choice tab for debug, but it seems not to do anything. There is a detail about the error but I think its code so I cant make anything of it.

There is no HoF Mod compatible with BtS 3.13 currently. It is being worked on.

Redcoats in Vanilla have +25% against Gunpowder and +25% against Mounted. See here.

edit: nevermind, my question (about efforts to release a post-BtS hof mod) was already answered. Thanks!

2nd edit:

How is the effort coming along? It seems that with all the confused and unhappy posters here who want to play GOTM's, there should be no shortage of willing helpers! I'd volunteer myself if I wasn't an utter programming noob :(

10th of the month is almost over and still no 1st spoiler?

This has been an abject disaster for me, in my first GOTM. Yowza. Is it ok to retire in these? My score is getting worse, if you get my drift.

@billybgame: Yes. Retirement is an option. You get the same score as if you had lost at that point, which is better than not submitting and getting no score at all. See the Civ4 GOTM submission page for information on what do do.

Ok...might as well...the score's sure not going to get any better, and I gotta admit, I'm not having any fun playing it, right now.

I submitted my files, but believe I erred. Didn't know I needed to save just before retirement. I believe the save file is well before that. Hope that works. Will do better next time!

Oh no! Civ just crashed for the first time ever?!? I got a message from the audio system, saying 2D sound was unavailable, then the graphics go weird and the whites of the leaders eyes turned fuscia. Next turn I got a message saying that Civ experienced a critical error and needed to close.

What do I do with my game? I can't open the auto save games and the last save I had was 5 or six turns ago. Can I restart from there? I really don't want to abandon my game....

Why can't you use the last autosave?

(BTW - this would also have been the best solution for billybgame!)

When I tried to load the autosave, I got the 'assets are locked' message. This is my first GOTM and I thought this meant loading autosaves was against the rules. I went back one autosave and it worked, so I think the other must have been saved on the turn that crashed.

Thanks for the help. Based on your reply, I'm assuming that it is ok to load an old autosave if your game crashes...

If you suffer a crash you should start from the latest save you have, and repeat your actions from that save as precisely as possible. Normally that will be the last autosave, but if your last manual save is more recent than the latest autosave you can run, then use that.

You should ensure that your Civ4 is set to autosave on every turn, then you should not have a lot of rework to do. There's an autosave frequency setting in the CivlizationIV.ini text file that defaults to four turns between saves. Change that to one turn between saves if you haven't already done so.

Jasonc, ensure that you do this for both the standard CivilizationIV.ini and also for the warlords CivilizationIV.ini

The default location (Windows) for these files are "My Documents/My Games/Civ4" and /Warlords.

; Specify the number of turns between autoSaves. 0 means no autosave.
AutoSaveInterval = 1

I have to say that I am very disappointed. My game was rejected with a harshly worded emails stating that if I continue to 'PLAY OUTSIDE THE RULES' I would be banned from future games.

I had many crashes which I finally realized were due to having Google Search running while playing the game. I followed the instructions from AlanH and continued playing my game. I spent over 30 hours playing this game and barely got done within the timelimit. I ended up submitting a Space Race LOSS and was in third place total. I continued playing well after it was apparent that I would not win the game because I wanted to be part of this community. I did not cheat and do not like that this was implied in the email.

I would like to know exactly why my game was rejected and what I was supposed to do about the game crashes.
