Won't be any NPCs for a little while. I guess I can add you and Jal both. Update won't be done until tomorrow anyway.

@Jal- Actually, Zar Carnat is at the center of the north coast of the lake, not on the oceanic coast... but it's not a big deal. Thanks for the map. :D

Started writing again, after much distraction yesterday. I have completed the Acheame'e general section, now I have to wait before writing the details of the nations region, before moving on to others. Each nation will get some details on the landscape, plants, animals and people in their region. Should have it finished by tonight or so.

Edit: Completed Iwa-Usum now too.

Update is coming along nicely, almost half done (I have taken lots of breaks). I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a title for this NES?

Why couldn't the Hasan subdue the Tar?

From the wild steppe to the mild scrublands, tundra and forests, mountains and sea. The land is chilled, winters are harsh and the summers are mild. A recent change has occurred, placing human beings in control of their environment, more sophisticated weapons and tools, better language and agriculture. As everything improves, surplus and happiness bring greed and jealousy, men fight for resources, for land. The skilled and strongest take command, leading local tribes in conquest and expansion, for the benefit of themselves. The old ways are the same, only the execution of plans and the complexity of warfare have changed. Diplomacy, trade, war and exploration await you, to the strongest goes the world.

The edges of civilization is a harsh place for any man, the same is not true for the lands known as Acheame’e. Over the centuries the land now united was broken and bitterly fought over the best grazing grounds, the best spots to raise families and so on. The time of troubles, barely remembered from passed down verbal stories, is the name the wise council call it, a time with little civilized behavior, with little organized meaning. Today it is different, the oligarchy controls trade and dictates where crops should be grown and where cattle should be grazed, where the soldiers and ships should travel in defense. Truly a beacon of what is considered a golden age to nearby neighbors, merchants sail the island chains eager to settle at the large wooden docks of Acheame’e, trade from all around the sea meets at Ais, the great city those whom have seen it say. Thousands of men and women working fields, making cloth, brewing a special drink which is rather popular in Tabula and Avalont. Peculiar to most is the absence of unified language among the Achaeme, the country is but a large cluster of carious peoples, working alongside one another, something not seen in other parts of the world. Even with the glories of wealth and unity, greed grows among the barbarians and trading partners eyeing the rich fertile lands, soon it may all come crashing down in a war unlike any seen before.

On Acheame’e:

Around the port city of Ais stands patches of forest, large sections have been cleared for farming and grazing, as well as to use the wood to build various ships. In these forest live a number of edible creatures, such as deer and pheasants, along the forest edge is the slow change into scrubland, low rolling hills with farms in low spots and specks of small homes in clusters on top of the hills. Similar animal life, including deer and at times herds of wild horses from the neighboring grasslands to the west. The main crops are wheat, barley, a variety of pea only found in the scrubland. Cattle, goats and horses are the majority of domesticate animals, though in trade there have been accounts of small birds been traded for their eggs.

To the west is the closest land nation to Acheame’e, Iwa-Usum, or as it is known by traders, land of the river tribe. Legend sets back that the people migrated from the deserts to the south and west, finding their homeland after years of hardship. The river is truly a ray of light in the dry, unforgiving desert sands. Huddling to the waters the locals have managed to make farms in the dry landscape with a form of irrigation adopted from Acheame’e, raising crops from all around the sea. The people are mostly agricultural, and rely heavily on outside trade for vital metals and some animals. Lacking the wood to build a navy of their own, they have little choice in the matter at this time. The possibility of a land route is growing, only various barbarian tribes stand between them and this goal, a mighty wall of angry uncivilized men is always a tough deterrent. The seat of the king, the city of Ima-Moh, is a growing farming outpost, with sea trade coming in it has sprawled into a city of ten or so thousand inhabitants, making it the largest city west of Ais.

On Iwa-Usum:

The desert is vast and the population sticks to the river, which is home to many large creatures such as a large scaly lizard[1] the people fear, it waits underwater to take those unfortunate enough to fall into it’s trap. Crops are similar to Acheame’e, only differing in the lack of the local pea and a special grass which the locals eat or mix with water to make a drink which has strange effects on the mind, it is used by some to tell the future. The river provides a number of food items, including large fish, freshwater crabs and shrimp and waterfowl. The Iwa people have developed special nets, made from grasses on the banks of the river and use them to gather birds and fish from the waters. Increasing efficiency over the old spear hunting techniques. A local delicacy is of the large river shrimp, dried in the desert heat and eaten as dried foods, it is a common trade item. The majority of the lands are flat, the deeper you go into the desert the larger the dunes become, switching around in what the Iwa-Usum call the gods trick. The locals are of a darker skin than the rest of the cradle, a tan color similar to the sand. Camels are also a local domesticate animal, used mainly as a workhorse and not eaten.

To the north, across a shorter trek of water is Pirol. A sea based nation, living off the animals in the forests and the fish in the sea. They rely heavily on trade, much like Iwa-Usum, they have a lacking knowledge of agriculture, so farming is limited. There are known groups of migrants from Tabula and Acheame’e that have setup small farms, mostly orchards revolving around a fruit bearing tree that produces greenish yellow sweet fruit. This fruit, along with furs and dried fish have become the mainstay of the Pirol trade route, making it a popular destination for merchants from all over. The smaller island holdings of the emperor are important trade stops, being at this time the major route to Alavont, giving them huge leverage over Tabulan and Acheame’e traders. To the north a constant barbarian threat keep the soldiers on guard, threats and raids come at random, sometimes fluxuating the borders.

On Pirol:

The main peninsula is heavily forested with large twisting trees and the local fruit trees. Wildlife varies from deer to turkey to the much larger and hairier elk [2] which comes to the northern edges of Pirol during the fall and winter. Snowfall is high and likely for over half of the year, limiting the crop cycle. Fishing brings in many type of wildlife, including the occasional water rat[3], and shallow water crab and lobster. The island holdings are much less wooded and more densely populated, centralized around docks for the merchants and fishermen. Unlike Iwa-Usum they have no nets to use, and instead use a form of spear with rope attached to prey on schools of fish near the shallows. The only local domesticate animal the Pirol have is a small bird with brown and white feathers and a black ring around it’s neck, used primarily for eggs but sometimes cooked over fire if other meats are not readily available.

To the north-west is an odd community, Savinfiak, unlike any other in the known world. Dedicated to a small population focused around near surface veins of copper and tin, as well as the occasional precious gem, they trade their metals for other essentials from neighboring tribes, carving out a nice living literally in the mountains. The occasional trader from Pirol is a welcome site on the river, giving them an ability to spread their metal resources throughout the trade routes, possibly soon sparking a trade rush of sorts.

On Savinfiak:

The locals do not rely on farming so much as trading, so the local crops that are grown are most exclusively used to feed the livestock, of which the most common is a form of mountain goat, which is used for meat, milk and skin. The river, near the capital, provides little more than trout and small crustaceans. Mineral deposits can clearly be seen on the surface of the mountains, including copper, tin and other unknown metals. Much like Pirol, during the colder months large herds of elk can be seen and usually are hunted for the large amount of meat per animal. The antlers of these animals are used by elders to show their status among the people.

Zanibre, considered by many traders to be a place of insane practices and ridiculous customs, is a theocracy who believe themselves to be one with nature, doing natures work while farming and building. Settled right in the middle of a large grassland valley the locals have an abundance of crops and animals, cows and horses mostly, so are able to think more about their place in nature, including the cleansing of evil spirits before literally every activity. The locals enjoy trade from all of the major trading powers in the region, including their next door neighbors. One of the key features, for traders and locals alike, is the presence of a large hairy beast, taller than three men and larger than a house[4]. These magnificent beasts migrate in and out of the grazing lands in the valley, coming in the late summer through winter, when the snow and cold come and cover all that can be seen.

On Zanibre:

The grasslands are a generally smooth downward slope towards the river in the middle, running to the sea. In the north, as far as the locals have gone is grass, until you can see thick forests, where it is rumored many terrible monsters live. The land is full of small birds and mammals, along with horses, cattle, goats and sheep, and the large hairy beasts. The river is wide and deep, hard to cross without proper boats, and dangerously cold to swim in. The people are more pale than those from across the sea, leading the Shamans to say they are superior, more pure of evil spirits.

To their southeast, direct neighbors, the people of Alavont live a life not so different than those of Tabula. Mostly seafaring they bring together the trade routes from their island capital and shelters bay. Focusing much attention of fishing, they have perfected the art of shallow net fishing, similarly to Iwa-Usum, nets made of sea weed rope are flexible and strong, allowing the capture of larger fish species. The major trading good is a small mass schooling fish[5], which are caught by the thousands and dried out in sea salts. Their advantages at fishing have made life easy to many locals, allowing more thinkers to sit around thinking, with the surplus of food and the brain helping powers of fish. Major problems come from the surrounding tribes, who, during the winter months, have a hard time gathering food and on the off chance they have an opening, steal from the Alavontii.

On Alavont:

The main island of Alavont is forested, helping in the creation of the small fishing vessels and the wooden buildings everyone lives in. The local bay is large and relatively shallow in most places, allowing easy tracking of fish and keeping storm swells to a minimum during most months. Across the narrow straights, a Alavontii colony was setup to fish more along the other coastlines, this eventually turned into a booming town where hunting is also a big deal. Local animals include elk, deer, water rats, the occasional mammoths and a variety of predatory birds. Native to the island and lands to the east is a tree bearing red sweet fruit, the locals use this fruit to make a sweet fermented beverage which is highly prized in their own nation, export of it is limited to Tabula.

Inbetween them all is the island nation of Tabula, formed in the middle of the extensively traveled sea lanes and masters of ship building they have managed to make a lavish living off goods from all around. Their main trading point are the large tall trees native to the large island to their east, which they cut down for ship building. These logs are soft enough to shape while strong enough to take on the harsh seas. Led by a council of elders, wise to the art of seafaring and trading, has gained much for the people who were originally mere fishermen and wondering tribes. They have traveled around the entire coast of the large island, having yet to settle it all, mainly due to the locals being unfriendly and their army being so small. Shipbuilding is the center of Tabulan life, their ships are the best in the world, able to go faster and farther than any others, giving them an advantage in finding new ‘sweet spots’ throughout the sea. Notable is use of bronze coverings on the front of the boats to protect from rocks and when needed to ram other ships in war.

On Tabula:

The main island is small, mostly covered by the growing capital and nearly exhausted of natural resources, most trees for instance have been chopped down and the remaining pockets of forest are to small to support local wild life. Domesticate goats have taken over the now grassy landscape and the deer which use to live there has been nearly killed off. Fishing is similar to Alavont, though less advanced, they tend to hunt for the water rats and air breathing fish[6]. A local trend is the wearing of fish bone accessories, mostly piercings of the ears and nose, with amulets and bracelets too.

Far to the south, one of the longer routes taken by Tabula, lays the kingdom of Carnatia. The capital is not based by the sea like most, it is near a very large fresh water lack inland, fed by what seems to be warm springs, allowing the locals to enjoy a type of hygiene not seen elsewhere. Most of the Carnatian boating takes place on the lake itself, where fish are plentiful and so are large water lizards, similar to those in Iwa-Usum, and a breed of cow which seems to stay in water more than on land, both of which are hunted for their hides and meats. Trade via the sea is hard and infrequent, the distance is one of the rougher stretches of water and only the odd Tabulan makes the journey. From the lake, Carnat in the native language, the large mountains can be seen, snow capped year round there are a couple small passes which are sometimes traveled for trading purposes with the desert peoples on the other side, they are very dark skinned and viewed as mystical to the much lighter skinned Carnatians.

On Carnatia:

The land is mostly scrubland, with few edible plants, the ones that are take the form of low output peas or spicy root plants. Rabbits and small deer are the only major animals in the area, along with small ground varmints. The lake is clear and deep, some springs can be viewed and are thought to be deep holes with unknown things living within them. Hippos and crocodiles are the larger water animals in the lake, accompanied by various types of fish, the most often caught ones are small, half foot long scaled fish with dark green and tan patterns on its back and sides. The lake is also home to large flocks of waterfowl. Some high drop outs along the sea’s coast are home to harsh cold winds year round, the cause of much of the high waves.

Across the sea, far to the north is the small nation of Moham. Much like other nations of the cradle these peoples rely on the bounties of the sea, though they have a large agricultural base, farming types of cereal grains and herding sheep. The small population is led by a council of elders, out of touch with the major trade lanes, like all those east of Moham. Rival tribes surround the fledgling Moham, threatening their way of life, the largest threat comes from the now migrating denser populated tribes from the west.

On Moham:

Sheep and fish are the staple of the diet, along with breads and drink made from barley. As the winters are harsh and winds from the sea keep the average temperature very cold, they have begun using wool and developed a special weaving, strong and denser than the rest of the cradle, allowing for warmer clothing. Mammoths are more frequent in Moham, and are a hunting regularity, providing lots of meat and fat for cooking, as well as large hides which are used as roofs on some homes. Other wildlife is similar to the other northern nations, including deer, bears and elk.

To the east is a coastal dual monarchy name Malaya. Largely out of contact with all other nations, they stick to the land and try to keep the other tribes from over taking their spot,. Farming is key to them as they have no need to make trade goods. A special root plant, which grows wild and has recently been domesticate, grows underground and puts out a brown skinned fruit[7], it is the major food source, beating out breads. Something not seen in other parts of the world are nipple piercings[8] in both men and women, usually done to show marriage, though on average the nipple piercings are exclusive to men, as women need to breast feed the infants, older women are known to wear them anyway. Oddly they Malayans are of a blonde haired people, different than the rest of the cradle, they also have blue and hazel eyes.

On Malaya:

The lands are broken near the shore by various tidal rivers, most small enough that log bridges have been placed over them to allow easy travel. Local animals are much of the same with the exception being a flightless bird species, about the size of a child, weighing as much as a child and laying large eggs. These birds are wild and dangerous, having killed people in the past with ferocious kicks with sharp claws. The natives as already stated are blonde haired and pale, a big shorter and longer faced than say those from Acheame’e. Trees in the region are sparse, being a scrubland similar to the rest of the seas coasts.

Far in the north is the Laros, a low population chiefdom, land based and fighting to unify the tribes of the land they consider to be theirs. Hunting is an important part of the Laros lifestyle, great herds of deer and elk roam the land and thus they hunt. Those not living in the city are wanderer hunter tribes, fighting others on the outskirts for the herds and other food. During the winters the fighting gets worse as the herds move on. If something isn’t done to bring the people together soon they may fall back into broken hunter gatherers again.

On Laros:

Cold, thick forests with patches of fields, lots of wildlife, mostly deer, elk and bear. The locals use special mixtures of plant extracts and minerals to make different colored war paint, to camouflage and show allegiance. The same is true for their hair, which being near white blonde is easy to mix color into for short time periods.

Across the sea are the Targhash, a group of tribes mixed together after centuries of bitter fighting. Working together they were easily able to secure nice farm lands from the hostile tribes around them. The mixture of warrior and agricultural cultures has made them dominant over the locals. Small boats made for river travel may allow expansion down the long river system soon.

On Targhash:

Sitting on the western side of a river valley, harvesting mostly forest plants and fruits, nuts and other things. Fishing is strictly with the use of a spear, limiting the number of fish caught at a time and preventing it from becoming a serious food source for large numbers of people. Local wild life includes a large predatory cat species, about as large as a wolf, with grey fur. Local trees are large and tall, some to large to be chopped down by hand, as the wood is to rough on the bronze axes. A local plant, which causes rashes upon touching and if digested causes sickness and death in people is used on spear tips while hunting, it kills the animals and if the animal is washed immediately it won’t ruin the meat.

Sheol is set on the coast of a large calm bay, the nation is geared at small family size fishing and farming communities, spread out but still under the protection of a central leader and military. Strong barbarians to the south cause problems, they attempt to capture women and children for slavery in raids, so far the current regime has been able to prevent any more such incidents. In the northeast territory of Sheol is a large lake, which is near the main source of copper for the nation, making it a cluster of people and a precious area for the military to care for.

On Sheol:

The land is scrubland, with raiders coming from the dry deserts of the south. Local wildlife include small groups of camels and goats along with large birds and feline predators. The natives are more tan than those in the north and are similar to Carnatians in appearance, though style of clothing are different. A form of wine is made from local fruits and nuts fermented together, making a delicious yet nutty drink, they have mastered the art of take oils from fish and using it as a spice with other things, such as breads.

OOC: Yes I know some of the later descriptions are shorter, this has to do with the lack of things to say, there is little to no contact between the people so they mostly keep to themselves. Anyway this should be sufficient for an introduction update.

Merry Christmas
