SGOTM 09 - Smurkz

Back but leaving again in 4 days....

I am currently reading Renata's plan, though it is hard to see if I'll be able to play by tomorrow. If not Sunday should be easier. I would not mind to see some people online for help :p

Let's not loose faith, this game needs closure. And XCal, I really can understand your frustration for that.

Well, like I said, if no one else can play by Monday, I'll finish it myself. Might take me three days with the two-year-old :p , but it'll get played.

As expected Sunday will be easier. I'll play as many turns as I can, hopefully finishing the game, but potentially leaving few turns to Renata (unless barbs paratroop, which couls be funky).

Ok there we go:

Turn 0, 178/330, 1765AD:
Trade Music for 200g, and hit musicals for 9gpt with Stalin.
Bulb GS into Fiber Optics, still FO in 3 turns.

IBT: caught a Spy in Mari. I Guess Hammy is getting all excited...

Turn 1, 179/330, 1770AD:
Worker duties.
Sending portuguese spy back to Mari right now.
Nothing else... Just the barb paratrooper disappeared....

IBT: SS Casing 1 is done.

Turn 2 180/330, 1775AD:
Dur-Kurigalzu: Uni->wealth
Babylon:Spy->Spy (sent to Opis)
Ouzo: casing->casing (in 3)
Sippar: Obs->wealth
Greenland: thrusters

Re-trade with Shaka: alu+clams for gems+12gpt.
Woker stuff: i am pre-chopping everywhere.

IBT: Fiber optics done. Wan gets a GG.

Turn 3 181/330, 1780AD:
Prechopping continues. Every forest should be prechopped. This is what a forest should look like: ready to fall.
Fusion in 3.

IBT: Joao finishes Versailles.

Turn 4 182/330, 1785AD:
Finishing the prechopping madness.
Trade philo to Stalin for 170 gold. Notice Stalin has enough in his hands now. Is it the war with Wan ?

IBT: Casing 2+ Thrusters. We get the expected GS :)

Turn 5 183/330, 1790AD:
Babylon still on spy duty. Sending it on our Alu...
Try to upgrade some of our deals: does not work !!! Gosh.

IBT: Fusion. We are technically back in the Future. Docking Bay, Thrusters.

Turn 6 184/330, 1795AD:
placing workers for chops.
trade paper to Stalin for 140 qnd Biology to HC for 140 too. I guess it's sales time.
start GA by burning the 4 Smurkzaki GP.
we have 800 gold and are burning 80 a turn. That should do it.

IBT: Stalin vassalizes to Shaka... and declares on Wan of course.

Turn 7 185/330, 1800AD:
zzzz

IBT: Genetics, Casing.
Hammy vassaliwe to HC.
Everybody goes emancipation.... Happiness issues in Greenland and Opis.

Turn 7 186/330, 1805AD:
Start Stasis.
Start engine in Ouzo. Chop out-of-BFCs.

IBT: Cockpit+Thrusters*2

Turn 8 187/330, 1810AD:
Chopped 4 in Smurkz for stasis.
Ouzo is also chopping well, Bon will not have too.

IBT: Ecology.

Turn 9 188/330, 1815AD:
Finish stuff, ready for 189...
Start robotics.

IBT: refuses war with Wan proposed by Shaka.

Turn 10 189/330, 1820AD:
As predicted by our master planner Renata; it's a launch. :goodjob:
Handing off here since rolo wants to nuke Atlantis :p

Again kudos to Renata, our gran'masta plannah. Not forgetting XCal too.
I think (cough-cough) rolo has promised some nuking festival on the remaining 6 turns... ;)

Well, I would love to nuke atlantis, but with manhattan undone ( and the best prod city asking 4 turns to finish it) it might be hard to get there in time :p

But will do all I can to erase atlantis of the map ( as we don't have Singularity Planet busters and we are playing with no city razing, taking it will have to do )

Yay, unkle! :goodjob: Yay, Renata! Hmm, maybe there's some way to slow down the spaceship to give Rolo enough time to enjoy his nuking. ;) I suppose Alan would fuss if we peeked at the other teams' threads, even though we've launched, eh? Well then, who's going to wrap it up for us? Rolo? Niklas?

You guys rock! :worship:

As I didn't had much more to do I decided to play a little of MAD :
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0764.jpg

I could had, with Org Rel and 2 more chops, cutted the time for 2 turns instead of 3, but this allowed me one more ICBM, so I'm not complaining.

Made a slight civic change, just to $rush some more nukes:

Now I can say that i was one of the team players that played more sets in here ;) And finished all the SGOTM games where I participated too :p

Seriously, the launch date is nothing spectacular, so this should not be a medal. I guess that not going land = power probably hurted us a little, most likely as much as losing a holy city and 2nd city to barbs :(

We are amused. :D

Thanks, Rolo! :goodjob: I'm heading home from work, now, and looking forward to an evening of browsing the other teams' reports. Congratulations to all!

Now I can devote all my Civ time to Niklas's BOTM. Shaka! Now there's a leader who knows how to pound a few heads!

I was just saying to unkle yesterday that what this team lacks is an unrepentant warmonger. Think we could hire Shaka for the job? :)

Very amusing rolo. :D

I thought that was a fun game, even if we didn't do well. I wonder what's up next?

Well, all wonders and fast space... maybe a true diplo win ;) ?

P.S

I was just saying to unkle yesterday that what this team lacks is an unrepentant warmonger. Think we could hire Shaka for the job? :)

I am offended :( I already proofed my warmongering skills by taking more than a dozen cities in 10 turns in the last SGOTM :p That is not "unrepentant warmonger" enough for you ? ( memo note. do not piss renata ;) )

Oh , and a birdie called oyzar already told me we are in the bottom half of the score :( and that were ppl sporting paratroopers vs bowmen in 590 AD
Turn 93, 590 AD: Pericles's Paratrooper (24.00) vs Hammurabi'sBowman (7.05)
Now that would had taken us to the medals :p

Well to be honest I'm glad this one is over. Quick games are not my cup of tea and once real life came back catching back up was difficult. Anyway I think we've all learned a valuable lesson: Screw research, let's just kill everyone :) I vote to try that strategy out next game.

Well done, Smurkz! :goodjob:

Looks as if everyone's finished. I'll publish the final results in the next 24 hours :)

We made it with a whole week to go, we rock! :D

@ rolo: I certainly can't fault the quality of your warmongering, no. That was a most excellent AI-dismantling in SGOTM 8.

Oh, and don't tell 5th Element (they apparently thought they'd beaten us), but it actually was a tie. Just ignore that little score differential. :shifty:

Huge laugh in the end Rolo (the nuke festival) ;) We should have done the same... but hey killing CRIII swords with paras was fun... Nice approach guys... (death to cottages!)

Cheers,
Ras

Anyway I think we've all learned a valuable lesson: Screw research, let's just kill everyone :) I vote to try that strategy out next game.

Seconded! :) Even CFR didn't figure out the paratrooper option until pretty late, but making good use of that was clearly key. As was getting Oxford and Biology early; we didn't really focus on either, or have farms ready to go when Bio came in. I don't think we made any big mistakes, though. City placement was fine (apart from being just a little too early on Athens --> losing it to the barbs), as was making good use of forest preserves.

Any of you insiders hear anything about the HOF 3.19 mod? Probably there will be a longer than usual delay before the next SGOTM, hmm? I'm trying out my first BOTM (Niklas's creation) but once I finish that I'm definitely gungho for the next SG. This one wasn't nearly as draining as SGOTM8, but we were still the last to finish, and the long delays were frustrating. Whatever happened to Methos and Chris? CommmandoBob, had enough of observing? We need some committed players! I really like the vibe of this group ( especially when we're all around ;)), and I think we have a good mix of talents, with spreadsheet MM, code-digging, GP planning, attention to detail, etc. I hope you'll all come back. And there's no risk of Alan breaking us up for winning too often!

No doubt Gyathaar will set things up for a compact peaceful game next time, just when we're all fired up to go out and kick the AI around.
