It could be but I'm not willing to. I spend hours of time getting the announcement ready. Additional time to spend minutely checking the material provided is not available. The posters have been repeatedly told to post proper links. Guidelines for how to do so are available. The only way to get them to do so seems to be to let them experience the consequences. This isn't subject to debate with me because it's already been thrashed out in the thread where they post what they want announced. Unfortunately their failures mean the community as whole experiences it as well. Complain to them if you want them to change the way they provide material for the announcements.

I totally agree with you and wouldn't, in any way, debate on this subject. Anyway I might be wrong but it looks like Steph's link to Sandris British units was ok (he did not edit his post like tom2050 and ruby-sauce did) in the "Announce your new/updated Civ3 files for front-page coverage" thread.

Since it's not a debating point it must be an argument???

Look at what the guidelines state. To be absolutely clear this is not part of the clarifications I recently added. It has been there for many months, and the italics for emphasis are there in the original.
Make sure that the entire URL shows as posted.
This is what Steph posted:
File Entry URL: Link to thread
Is the entire URL shown?

Hope that removes any doubt in your mind that the guidelines were clear and that they were not followed.

Oh come on, Blue, those are simply copy-paste errors. The forum itself abbreviates URLs, so anyone could have highlighted, Ctrl+C, Ctrll+V instead of copying link location, etc. etc.

December 2009: start at post 159 and read through 174. Don't stop after Plotinus' perspective (post 164). Read all of it. 16 posts of discussion to reach the point where people understand why these guidelines exist and the importance of following them.

The same things apply for the URLs as for the images.

November 2009:
I don't think he was talking about the pictures, but instead about the links. The site sometimes shortens the url in a post so that the link still works, but the whole url isn't actually displayed.
eg. http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=8233232&postcount=2
You see how the ... is in the middle, but I didn't put it there, the site did, so the link still works. However, you can't just copy the url, because the ... means if copied and pasted, it won't work.

At least I think that's what he was on about.
... Right on the mark. ;)
@ Vuldacon: it's a fairly common occurrence & straightforward to deal with. The issue is one of each person checking their own post (a few seconds) vs. me having to deal with the same in every post.
Bluemonkey... I corrected the Links. Never realized the links were being incorrectly placed that way. Good that you brought this to attention.
It's outlined in the OP. At this point it's no longer open to debate because it was all thrashed in 2009. I can't force people to follow the guidelines. OTOH, I don't have to do their work for them, Takhi.
