Hi,
I think this should be a sticky post, because i battled for ages trying to fix the "bad allocation" and so many before me.
I found the sollution not in these forums, even the two or three threads about this topic around here were not enough to fix. And they are huge threads.
The simple steps to fix it:
1. Do the 3GB Switch in your Windows Vista 32
- Acessories > Command Prompt>
- run this command: bcdedit /set increaseuserva 3072
2. Restart computer
3. Download and install LAA (Large Address Aware). It's a simple software specially created to allocate more memory for games.

- there is a .zip files below the explanation
4. Run LAA and choose your Beyondthesword.exe file as in the explanation on the above link.
5. Enjoy the game.

Remembering the obvious: you must have more than 2GB RAM to allow 3GB RAM in Vista.

This was the only fix of all others explained here that really worked for me.
