Narz
keeping it real
From the US Amateur Team East chess tournament. Over 1,700 players showed up from age 5 to over 90!
Despite the name (Amateur Team) Masters are allowed to play in the event as long as the average team rating is below Master strength (2200 rated), each team consists of four players. I played first board so had some tough games but only lost once (of six games) & beat a strong Master and drew an Expert so I was quite pleased about all that (especially since I haven't been studying chess much lately).
Anyway, some pics
First off, a tiny one taken with our tiny teammate's dad's camera (I'm on the upper right)
Another tiny one of us playing :
More in spoiler :
Me with my board #3 teammate Maanav (4th best eight year old in the United States
)
Another one :
My board #2 on the right & another friend on the left (my right).
Between rounds being a dad (at the hotel pool, we didn't stay at the hotel but the event was there)
Too young for chess but playing her own game with pretty rocks.
Pretending to clean the plants (later she pretended to water them & made flowers for them using the gemstone looking rocks).
In the final round Maanav's game went the distance, about five hours long, we all gathered round to support him, he had a tricky but winning endgame but ending up just drawing, still that was enough to win the match 2.5 to 1.5 (2 wins, 1 draw & 1 loss against our opponents).
