Language translations for leader sayings

His speaker is 2KGreg, if I'm not mistaken.

If 2KGreg's full name is Greg Gobbi, then yes. I think some other leader voice actors are affiliated with Firaxis as well.

'Hatf' literally means doom, you're very correct.

Ah, in that case it probably should be 'Prepare for your doom!' rather than 'Prepare for your death!' then. Not that it makes much difference... ;)

"Ya'tari" is not commonly used in everyday speech. It's used to describe being affected by a feeling:
Ya'tarini al-khajal [I'm feeling embarassed]
Ya'tarini al-maradh [I'm overcome by sickness]
Ya'tarini al-karam [I'm feeling generous]/[I'm overcome by a feeling of generosity]

Thanks for the explanation, thought it meant something along those lines. :) Couldn't find a translation for the verb anywhere but I guess if it's not an everyday expression that kind of explains why...

"Audaytu" is inaccurately pronounced, mostly because the endings of the words aren't articulated with the exact grammatical diacritic [as is common in the vernacular]. If we want to be technical, he should say
"laqad awdayta [2nd person] benafseka wa behatharateka al-ka'eiba"
Again, this is open to interpretation.

So what exactly does أوديت mean then? I thought the word was عاديت (I have become hostile (to you)/I have made an enemy (of you)) but I gather as you've put down another word I've misinterpreted it? (Perhaps it was the vernacular pronunciation that misled me...)

As with "audayt" before, the word ending pronunciation isn't grammatically maintained by the speaker. Techically it should be:
"A'taqid annahu yajibu 'alayya,"
I'm very certain it's "yagib," not "wagib," mostly because it's the more common expression :)

I was very confused by this, I thought it should have been 'yagib' as that's the expression I've been taught... 'wagib' just didn't make grammatical sense, being a noun rather than a verb and all. But if it's simply down to a difference in pronunciation then that explains a lot. :)

As a native speaker let me tell you I'm very impressed by your language skills, way to go :D

!شكرا جزيلا Glad to know I actually am learning something from my degree then... :goodjob:

Is there anyone willing to make this a mod? I really would like to see a literal translations mod happen (even if it doesn't incorporate spying).

Intro: "Welcome, I am Haile Selassie, rastafari grandfather:lol:. I'll be your (good) servant today....or "our dear just people, welcome, I, Hailesilassie, ras teferi mekonnen the king of ethiopia, I AM your devoted servant."

compare with xml line "A thousand welcomes to our fair nation. I am Haile Selassie, the Ras Tafari Makonnen and Emperor of Ethiopia, your humble servant. "

:(

He's not calling himself the Rastafari Grandfather here. He's telling you his given name. Haile Selassie was born "Tafari Makonnen Woldemikael" and Ras (Ethiopian rough equivalent to a Duke) was his title. This is where the Rastafarian religion gets it's name from.

He didn't actually take the name Haile Selassie until he became Emperor in 1930.

Hi! thanks this is very informative! and could you please fill up the "???" gap? and also we need Peace line

Hi guys! I'm new here :)

I have uploaded a video in Youtube, it's a video of All Civ 5 leaders with english subs (The real translation not xml line!) Thanks to you guys that it makes me possible to do this!

Check it out! : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRFXG-mdeGU

It got 3 parts. Enjoy!

Some of the translations are either conjectured or wrong or missing. I don't think should attempted without input from Zulu/Mohawk/Zarma/Yucatec/Nahuatl/Amharic/Shoshone/Old Javanese experts or speakers. The real meaning of the dialogue can be really different from the XML lines. I also would like people to put the peaceful and request trade animation. Peaceful made be hard to get (I have only seen a handful, like Washington, Gustavus, Hiawatha, Attila), but request trade animation appears frequently.

Yeah, I'm also thinking the same thing. I'm in the progress to make the "Peace treaty" trade screen animation.

Btw, I'm Indonesian and I know a little old javanese, the one I am not so sure is the Defeated line. He said something about:
- Winning (Menang)
- But (Kok malah)
- Surrender (Ulun)
- We (Kita)

Peaceful can be initiated by the player, you ask the ai civ what deal they think is good to them, if they offer something (like gold, resources, cities), they will likely say their peaceful line. A flat peace deal does nothing.

Request can also be triggered by asking what they want in return for something if they are neutral/friendly

About Gajah Mada's lines, can you understand his request, hateno03/01, all his hateletshearit lines, hatehello, and neutralyes01? I'm curious about those lines.

I have taken all the screen shot of peace trade screen, but the China & Siam is bugged. The leader not moving at all during peace treaty line..that's weird. could you please check your own? maybe your Civ doesn't have this bug

The request trade screens are almost finish, I'll upload with subs soon in youtube :)

HateYes01 : Rahayu (Literally means "Welcome", maybe he want to say like "very well"

NeutralYes01 : Rahayu,to! ( "to" is a honorific term of stranger)

Letshearit01 : Pucara (maybe it's an old form of the word "Bicara" which means "speak!")

Letshearit02 : opo,boba? ( "opo" means "what?" . boba? hmm...LOL no idea)

Hateno03 : toho-toho tang! ( "toho-toho" means "how dare you!" , not sure what "tang" means

Hope this is helps :goodjob:

By the way, I found the voice actor of Pacal!. his name is Jorge Perera Brito and I found him by twitter and yes, it's him, he confess it by himself. Hopefully he'll help us to translate all the lines :D

Ahmad al-Mansur
Declares War: It seems that outright war is the only solution to our quarrel. or ...And so it comes to war...prepare yourself! Or There is a time for diplomacy, and a time for war...this is the latter

Defeated: This is why I prefer the negotiating table to the battlefield! Or Perhaps my expectations were a bit too high. Or I seem to have overestimated the abilities of my troops.

My arab pal has added Ahmad's line to wiki page. It's kinda hard for him to understand Moroccan's accent, even for arabic native speaker

Anyway, I did a research on Ashurbanipal's peace line. take a look: < Peace - So shall it be written, today we are the victors! (kīam lū šaṭāru, umā anīnu kašādu’tu!)>

http://www.premiumwanadoo.com/cuneiform.languages/dictionary/search.php <--- I used that website to do a research and the translation you gave is accurate!

I don't speak Greek (never mind Byzantine Greek) but shouldn't Theodora's Attacked line be something like "Now, friend, that riots are needed..." to give a more direct translation, by the looks of it?

I remember someone wanted the xml lines for Theodora declaring war and being attacked, so here.

TXT_KEY_LEADER_THEODORA_DECLAREWAR_1
You have preyed upon my delicate senses. I would wallow in sorrow, but I think I shall find greater pleasure in destroying you.
TXT_KEY_LEADER_THEODORA_DECLAREWAR_2
It is always a shame to destroy a thing of beauty. Happily, you are not one. (The line ingame)
TXT_KEY_LEADER_THEODORA_DECLAREWAR_3
You don't return my gifts, and my messengers come back empty handed. I have come for that which is mine, with force.
TXT_KEY_LEADER_THEODORA_ATTACKED_1
Your true colors are shown at last. How dare you think you can do this to me?
TXT_KEY_LEADER_THEODORA_ATTACKED_2
Now darling, tantrums are most unbecoming. I shall have to teach you a lesson. (Seems to be closest to the in game line.)
TXT_KEY_LEADER_THEODORA_ATTACKED_3
What, did you think you were the only suitor? Many will come to my aid - you are only one. (what happened to Justinian?)

Is Jorge Perera Brito a fluent speaker of Yucatec Maya?

Is Jorge Perera Brito a fluent speaker of Yucatec Maya?

don't know,Guandao. he hasn't replied my message, maybe you want to try to talk with him by twitter.

I have added some translation for Ashurbanipal's line, I successfully deciphered some of his word.
And also some Shaka's line, it's pretty easy to catch his word

Here’s my compiled material of what Flix Ujin and his Arabic speaking friend posted on Civilization wiki, and my own contributions.

Gajah Mada
Intro: You face us, the great warrior, Gajah Mada of Nusantara! (Hangadegto kito hinar pakan maha wiryo, Gajah Modo, ring Nuswantoro!)
Note: The word "Indonesia" did not exist in the past, so instead he uses the word "Nusantara" which means "Unified Archipelago". Also notice that in Javanese pronounciation, they often replace "a" with "o"
Peaceful: Let's stop fighting with me. (Ring hayun to ayo watu aperang lawan hulun.)
Note: Perang is Malay/Indonesian/Javanese means war. with a- suffix as negation this could mean ceasing war, or peace
Attacked: How dare you, you insignificant fly! (Nir toho-toho warito kito. Nir dahat apanggung Kunang!)
Note: Kunang means firefly in Malay/Indonesia/Javanese
Declare War: You are standing in my way, I shall crush your head like a coconut! (Hang halangito kita, pala ning hulun prayaca nira!)
Defeated: I thought we were going to win, but we are losing. I will surrender to you. (the parts that Flix Ujin are certain of is Menang=winning, kok malah=but, ulun=surrender, kita=we)
Request: untranslated so far, contains kita “we”
Hate Hello: Are you a (male concubine), stranger? (Apa ta kayu,to?)
Note: Kayu means wood or it can be means male concubine. He is using "to" to address you (a honorific term for stranger). I think he uses an irony sentence which has a negative and positive in one
Hate Lets Hear It 01 : Pucara (maybe it's an old form of the word "Bicara" which means "speak!")
Hate Lets Hear It 02 : Apa,boba? ( "opo" means "what?" . boba? hmm...no idea)
Hate Lets Hear it 03: Kita????? (We????)
Hate No 1: sounds like “Datung pawi ka tito kito!”
Hate No 2: What?! (Apa?!)
Hate No 03 : toho-toho tang! ( "toho-toho" means "how dare you!" , not sure what "tang" means)
Hate Yes 01 : Rahayu (Literally means "Welcome", maybe he want to say like "very well")
Hate Yes02: sounds like “Yen ulung keito”
HateYes02: sounds like “Yen arang to kito”
Neutral Hello: Greetings! (Bahagio!)
Neutral Lets Hear It 1: Explain! (Babarno)
Neutral Lets Hear It 2: Proceed (Maso/Masuk)
NeutralLets hearit03: untranslated
Neutral No01: Paham? (Understand?, like “You can’t have it”)
Neutral No02: sounds like “Halula tong ulung”
Neutral No03: Hold on (Tahan!)
Neutral Yes 01 : Rahayu,to! ( "to" is a honorific term of stranger)
NeutralYes02: sounds like omom to me, Tamil word for “yes” is apparently “aamaam” which might have been loaned into Javanese and pronounced like “Oomoom”, unless “aamaam” is also a Sanskrit word loaned to Tamil
NeutralYes03: sounds like “Om”

Ahmad al-Mansur (I wonder which Arabic dialect Flix Ujin’s friend speaks? Moroccan Arabic is the most divergent Arabic dialect/variety, according to a Bahraini Arabic speaker I know)
Declare War: The gain from the war, what will you get out of it? (مفودات للحرب, وش دورتكم للحر / mofwadat llhrb, wish dworat kmr llhr)
Defeated: The gain is having a clean system from corruption (المفودا انا نحزف الفحاإش من الانفزز / almfwada ana hazaf alfhaesh man alanfzz)
Request: I came with all hope, but haven't reached an agreement

Ashurbanipal
Intro - I welcome you to the great kingdom of Assyria... have you come to view my library?
Declare War: (Still guesses) I fear there is no other choice but to remove you from this world! (atta ina mâtu ēnu qatû la nasāḫu kû!)
Note: ina = from, qatû = to bring to end, atta = you, mâtu = to kill/land/territory, nasāḫu = remove, kû = your
Hate Let's Hear It 02 - What now? (Mīnu anīna!? )
Hate Let's Hear It 03 - What do you want? (Mīnu tereš?)
Hate Yes 03 - So be it. (Kiam tereš)
Hate No 01 - No! (Ula!)
Neutral Let's Hear It 02 - I will hear/listen (to you) (Ešem’e)
Neutral Let's Hear It 03 - Yes? (Anna?)
Neutral Yes 01 - Very Well lit.well (ṭābiš)
Neutral Yes 02 - Agree! (Magāru!)
Neutral Yes 03 - Agree lit.agreeable,welcome (a magru)
Neutral No 03 - No! Certainly not! (Lā ! Laššu!)
Request - Will you consider a trade? (Maḫīru epēšu keṣēpu?)
Note: epēšu means to do, to act, to build, make
Peace - So shall it be written, today we are the victors! (kīam lū šaṭāru, umā anīnu kašādu’tu!)

Pacal (Who ever translated this needs to do the other untranslated lines like declareswar, peaceful and request)
Intro: Greetings, wayward one. I am known as Pacal. (Toch o'lal dix'colo. Kuya'ral tenha P'akal)

Pocatello (I tried my best without major knowledge of Shoshone grammar)
Attacked: Ne (I) is the only part I could translate so far, the xml lines “I will not kneel to unwarranted aggression” or “I will fight you to my dying breath” may be the probable meaning
DeclaresWar: someone translated the first phrase as “base person”, but the “base” in the Shoshone dictionary does not mean “evil” but like “base of the mountain”, perhaps it actually starts with “Nehw” which is we two (exclusive), so the sentence may be something like Nehw (we two) ???, DameN (possessive we) daivo (white person, may be the wrong word) eN (you singular)????, bêka (to kill/fight) ???.
Defeated: eneN (you singular) ?????
Request: ???? nangka (hear) ???? (compare to xml line “Would you listen to my proposal?”)
Peaceful: ???maN (it)??? ???hani (to do) ????, ????? (likely the xml line “It pleases me to see this conflict resolved” is the meaning)
HateHearit01: no idea, sounds like “Tei kul!”
HateHearit02: Hina????? (Hina means what)
HateHearit03: couldn’t translate this, sounds like “Hilula ooeey ki!”
HateHello: Hina (what) ?????
HateNo01: Gê ma ??? (No+with/on ????)
HateNo02: no idea
HateNo03: Gê! (No!)
HateYes01: Mêku! (Well/all right) ?????
HateYes02: Ne ha (I will) ?????
HateYes03: OseN (that is) ????????
Neutralhearit01: ????
Neutralhearit02: ?????
Neutralhearit03: Ha’a? (Yes?)
NeutralYes01: possibly Ha’a mêku! (Yes, all right!)
NeutralYes02: Suni (that way/like that) ?????
NeutralYes03: sounds like hmmmm…..
NeutralNo01: Gê! (No!)
NeutralNo02: ?????? gê! (?????no!)
NeutralNo03: Gê ma ??? (No+with/on ????)
NeutralHello: Dahi (we two inclusive) ma (it) dam (is) ????!

Shaka
Intro: Mina nging-uShaka wa kwaZulu, ingenzi zama butho.ngokusa ubafana yonawe (I'm Shaka of Zulu, don't try to move, warrior! or I'll destroy you)
DeclaresWar: “A gei”kho (none) “ossos vimba” ngisho (I say) nawe (even you) bala !(actually/absolutely/certainly/indeed/really/truly) “Aiveeveh!” (Compare with xml line “None will slow our progress, not even you! Prepare for war!)
Attacked: Uwazi (you know it) “palamisei” wakho (your), kuzo (it will) wenze (you do) “wafuwubli”
Defeated: Amabutho ami (My warriors), “afulu lei gii, ganti nani ungil way zala pontz” (rest I couldn’t translate, but I am sure about the first part, so the xml line “My warriors have failed, and so I failed them” is the probable meaning)
Peaceful: sounds like “Ugu tiyu sapila! Gufubagazi, bosi bun bamba gwan ni…” part of it sounds like usaphila “you are still healthy” and the last word is possibly kwami “my”, which means that the xml line “The fact that you still live is a testament to my restraint!” is the probable meaning
Hatehello: Usho? Wenzani lapha? (You say? What are you doing here?)
HateLetshearit01: Khuluma! (Speak!)
HateLetshearit02: “ini gei” manje (manje means “now”, and –ni is “what”)
HateLetshearit03: Wena futhi! (You also/too!)
HateYes01: Kulungile! (Alright!)
Hate Yes02: Uma ngi…”nyanza nigilili” (that part is untranslated) uma means if/or when, and ngi is first person
HateYes03: Uma u-…”pigileila” (untranslated), uma is if/or when, and u- is second person
Hate No 01: it sounds like “Musu kang ah!” possibly starts with “Musa” which means “do not”, for example “Musa ukungena!” (Do not enter!)
Hate No 02: Angazwanga (I didn't hear)
Hate No 03: sounds like Unpe tholo! No clue about the meaning
Neutral Hello: Bayethe! (Hail you Majesty!)
Neutral Lets Hear it 01: Kubeka (It puts??) doesn’t make sense, I also found “Kobeka” in the Zulu online dictionary but it didn’t make sense either in this context
Neutral Lets Hear it 02: Nansi khebe (Here it is a rowboat) - maybe an idiom, not sure likely the wrong phrase it sounds like “Na zin bei lei” to me
Neutral Lets Hear it 03: Uwuzwa-su (I'm listening) according to the dictionary this can mean “you hear it, he hears it, she hears it, it hear it”, so this likely not correct “I’m listening” is actually “Ngiyezwa” in the dictionary, but I do believe it ends with “-sho” which means “say” or “mean”
Neutral Yes 01: Kulungile! (Alright!)
Neutral Yes 02: Ingabe-na (Share it with us)
Neutral Yes 03: Ingavuma (I accept) Ngiyavuma is the form I found in the online dictionary
Neutral No 01: qha! (No!)
Neutral No 02: Lutho neze neze (Not a bit) it literally means “nothing, not at all, not a bit!”
Neutral No 03: sounds like “Linga chosso zin kukul”, “linga” means attempt/try while “izinkukhu” means “chicken”, perhaps it is something in the vein of “try again, chicken!”
Request: Ungavuma-wuphe dayisa ( lit. you might accept-give it-sell) maybe he trying to say "You might accept this offer"

My arabic friend speaks regular arabic, he said Al-mansur's Declares War & Defeated has a lot of idiom phrases, so it's kinda not an easy task to translate

"Gufubagazi" <---it should be ngubufakazi which means: he/she/they/ it's an the evidence
bamba: catch/seize/arrest

It looks like the xml translation of “The fact that you still live is a testament to my restraint!” is pretty accurate!
