Dirk's deity game pt II

Still Dirk, it would be best to do that one pop whip size 4 so you can hire 2 scientists right away working the fp farm. Thus growth is prolly the limiting factor...

edit: good point Dave... speed is prolly more important than other considerations....

Settling directly on the Southmost Dye would close a lot of the mountain passes, would Hann really make a 7~8 tiles detour around for his next city?
Then again he only has 3 cities while the others have 4 so he could already have a settler on his way there. In that case, I would go for...
1SW of bananas
in between the 2 gems (unless there's seafood to the east)
cows/fish/clams/silk city

@Ras, as Dave said, i need the lib asap, the scientists can wait a bit. Han has had that city there for some time, he'll pop borders soon.

edited my post to acknowledge but you didn't see it prolly... good luck for the incoming set ;)

It's an exaggeration but the ability to fetch Parthenon and Great library (and maybe MoM since i'll try to get calender soon) to speed up gpp production considerably makes things a lot easier.

marble means oracle shot, great library shot, easy epics, shot at Taj Mahal...

Though I am not obselete... rather functionnal.

@KittenOFChaos, it's a bts thing i believe, warlords and earlier the ais would come through your borders.

@Kid R, that's right ais will use galleys at some point to settle land and in this case they will go through borders as well. I don't think it'll happen before 1000 bc though, probably later but as soon as i can spare a settler (read have the south blocked off) i should probably settle there. There's a potential 3 food city there too, not so easy to build NE/Globe there due to lack of hammers.

I've had an AI build a city between 2 of my cities (his city was connected to his other cities by one tile), and he just gave me the city 5 turns later (witout me asking for it). This was on monarch

and maybe MoM since i'll try to get calender soon

This is the one I always can't care less about, though I have seen some strong players debate on going after it.

I was under the impression that you needed to control the 2nd ring to block Han with your expansion but having another look I can see that you only need to defend the 1st ring, that makes Mysticism uncessesary. Just make sure to get a quick first pop as you already mentioned.

But for the third and fourth city a monument could come in handy as i don't think i have the worker force to quickly chop out all those libraries. Mysticism is only 4 turns now and i actually only skipped it to get to writing asap.

Obsolete, MoM is very useful but the big problem of course is that ais have calender so early and generally won't trade it until MoM is built. Duckweed gets the wonder rather often and i can see why with his emphasis on early research.

Not really, in hindsight i would have had some more roads and i could have chopped a bit more near capital. Akkad would have been founded later though and i was somewhat afraid Han would be coming through the passage as he had that city there for some time.

Next round'll probably be thursday.

Remind me the debate with Crusher1 months ago. Human's 2nd settler can usually beat AI's 5th settler.

Next round, the good news is that i didn't waste food in Akkad as i assumed, only in the final turn did i switch from grass forest to plains forest in order to get 21 hammers in 7 turns. I review that decision now, if i grow to 3 in 6 turns by working the grass forest i'll have 20H in 8 turns, one turn delay in getting the library up but i gain 6 food so it'll help with earlier scientists. I choose to work the grassforest.Open borders with SB, hope he'll spread judaism soon.

Got a bit nervous about the northwest. Sb probably doesn't have too much room to the north. West is not really known. He might come with a galley fairly soon so i'm laying a road there, it's a very good place to settle anyway. And once i have that site i could close borders with SB. Fourth settler'll probably try to grab the southeastern fish/clam/cow site. Fifth settler might go north east

What's the plan for the GS once you get him? Academy seems the obvious choice, but the capital is low on commerce and a poor mid to long term location for the academy. The gems site might be a nice idea, ofcourse that means you need to tech IW without an academy. Dye-banana will be very strong in commerce later on, and the culture would be useful, but not a strong option until calendar, so not a strong contestant.

On a sidenote, it might be useful to scout out the peninsula near the gems for seafood. If there's any there, that might change the layout of the future cities.

I think capital for short term gain, those gems won't beat the +8 commerce capital gets by far. Later on i could move the capital to the dye banana site. I may play the game along the lines of deity challengers SG, farm most of the tiles and run lots of scientists, we didn't have Mids in that game as as well. Capital was moved to a cottage site there later.
