SGOTM 11 - Phoenix Rising

I think the initial micromanagement is just switching citizens for max growth and rushbuying a few early buildings in new cities.

By the way, I was reading up on the SGOTM info threads yesterday just to make sure we covered our basis. GB has kept everything in line. I came across something interesting. A staff post on rules indicated that once a team posts there final save, they can then read the threads of the other teams. I'd still like to verify this to make sure, but it will be cool to see how the other team's did things and their overall progress.

Yes but you should wait for Alanh to post in our thread.

Should I take care of the final few turns??

What buildings should we buy?

Culture 20% too.

Pop on MSN and we could wrap this up really. Not much input is needed beyond checking we meet all victory conditions.

Culture at 10 or 20%, whatever get's DG happy - 10% should do it, we can always adjust as needed.

Well, Cristo was in process in PN anyway. Mecca can finish levee and start SoL. Rush buy granaries lighthouses etc. in the new cities.

For the sake of 3 turns I will play on as not sure if JB is back.

No offence meant JB.

Diplomatic victory is our and all conditions appear met.

I would like to thank you all for taking part we have made a great team really.

Overall Mehmed and Spain voted for mehmed. Rest for us.

Switched all cities to food. Built a few wonders too. Killed a few privateers too.

Pictures to follow.

Can we all await for a post from Alan before you view any other threads.

That's not a bad score really. Too bad it took so long for the Vote to come up. I think the Vote may be an RNG thing. I've seen it come sooner than that .

Well done :goodjob:

Look at the other threads now, but please don't post in them until they have finished. Your final save will not show on the progress page until we close the game.

We were 700 years off. Acckk.

I think we could of played the diplomatic side much better. City locations at start were not great and we missed out on GLH.

I think diplomatic was the right choice. Could of used an immortal or deity player on team really but we have had a lot of fun. :)

I think also letting a religion spread to us at start would of been better.

Need time to read through ducks and other threads. I didn't realise so many teams had already finished. Ackkkk!

It will be interesting to read some of the write-ups. Great learning experience. I've already checked a few.

You know, some teams with some wicked good players have not finished.

Of note are looking at things that teams took with Oracle/Lib and there tech paths. Some teams were taking Radio with Lib..ha

I think it boils down doing some of that focused research boosts at times and just being meticulous in turnsets.

We did a good job. I mean we basically had no immortal players until Kadazzle came on late. I play a lot of GOTMs and I'm familiar with a lot of these names. There are players on teams that are much better than Kossin even and he would admit. They absolutely rip up the GOTMs and have amazing wins and scores at all deity levels.

The main thing is we finished and finished correclty. I think it's a great finish for our level and we will all get better. Great Job!

I highly recommend playing the single-player GOTMs which the SGOTM is an off-shoot of - same group runs it. Great and varying maps and themes/difficulties. Plus you get to read the reports of all these great players - many of which don't frequent the forums otherwise - and this is very educational.

(Note: IF you go to the GOTM forum, check one of the BOTM Results thread and click on the link inside for the full results page. You can download the final saves of the top players and few them. For instance, check out jesusin's top save for BOTM31 - it will blow your mind)

Remember you can also see the replays of all the published GOTM and SGOTM games. Text event lists are linked from the Results pages, or animated maps and graphs are here.

Looks like some teams are still not close to victory. I think T'dr is now going for culture.

Interesting ploy I ride in a couple of threads - I have seen this before. You build UN in a conquered city and gift it back so they are the opposing vote. Not sure how this would have worked in our game and we did the right things any way, I think. Just not soon enough...ha

ha...it's kind of funny that One Short Straw finished first. One guy posted comments from several team threads regarding here huge score drop, including GB's comment. Looks like they will actually place second. Still not sure why they drop though.

Interestingly, OSS went Bud which was founded by Iz as well. That's probably a good call - leverage Iz to spread the religion. It appear that OSS did not attack anyone.

Congrats on finishing, Phoenix! :)

1 AD score drop was a 5t slavery/OR spell, during which we whipped about 30+ citizens (primarily for 6 universities, but also other infrastructure). The last score drop was starving to get enough money for a UN rush-buy after the GE bomb - it saved 1t in the end.

Hey BB - I've been reading a lot of yall's thread. I actually kinda thought it might have been a mass whippage session.

I see yall got the Mids too. Did yall actually adopt Rep then immediately. I was confused by some screenshots following the Mids so not sure.

The Ducks whipped harder than we did. They just posted their saves in a way that didn't make it so obvious that they whipped hard.

Izzy didn't spread Buddhism very far for us - just to Mehmed really. We spread it to Zara and Justinian got a natural Buddhism spread (although we were prepared to infect him). Congratulations on finishing! This game was definitely not an easy one with all the VC requirements limited by the 2 dow rule.

shyuhe - did yall actually DOW on anyone. I get the impression that you did not, which seems possible here if played right.

Yep...thanks, I'm glad we we're able to finish correctly.

We did some mass whipping around Ox too, but probably not enough - there wasn't a consensus on the slavery issue.

Correct, we never declared war. That was an error which becomes more obvious if you compare our game to the Ducks (who declared twice and got declared on once).

ha...i plan to enjoy the long read through the Ducks thread. I'm halfway through yall's thread. Mutineer cracks me up.
