SGOTM8 Maintenance Thread - Hydrophobic Americans.

Some teams are having trouble with their rate of progress in 8. Part of this is due to drop-outs, and part is due to teams not adhering to a 72 hour cycle, or losing the plot on their rosters. For the record, teams who are still playing have achieved an average of 3 days per 10 turns since 850 AD. I'm loathe to guillotine the game whlie several teams are still playing, and still some way from world conquest.

I also have a concern that C-IV will release in a few days, and that will no doubt distract quite a lot of players, making the sign-up process for a new Civ3 game a little difficult.

So I think we need to delay SGOTM 9 by a couple of weeks to let some teams finish SGOTM 8 and to let the initial C-IV fuss die down. So we could start pre-game discussions at the end of October, get the teams signed up, then start playing mid-November.

How does that sound?

Sounds fine to me.... The reason I was asking was to see if I needed to curb my enthusiasm on Civ4 to start up SGOTM9

AlanH, your wisdom is legendary. :worship:

Belated :bday:!

Many happy returns for yesterday to mad-bax, founder of our illustrious competition! [party]

:bday: to M-B. I wish you well and hope for your return!

:thanx: Thanks for getting this event started and your great work with scenarios development!! :goodjob: :goodjob:

Yes, Happy Birthday, MB. :king: Do you even check in these days?

happy b-day m-b.... we miss you. (sniff)

Cheers, M-B! Hope you had a great day and I hope to see you around here in the not too distant future.

Thanks to all the staff that have made this scenario so much fun.

When will the cut-off date be for determining awards and can the kitchen utensils be awarded to a team that has yet to finish?

You have to finish to win a prize ... any prize. As indicated above, I'm hoping to finish, or guillotine, this game in mid-November, after the initial C-IV fever has abated and we've hopefully launched C-IV Gotm. We have five unfinished teams right now. I hope most can do the business in another 15 days?

Not impatient or anything :mischief: , but it's looking an awful lot like the end of October here. Any chance of even little hints about what the next ones going to be? :)

Well, let's start by saying you are going to be required to lose the next one :mischief: Is that a little enough hint?

From that, I'll go to one of my past lives in an Gentlemen's SG where we had to protect the ladies from evil bruts in the game.

We start as someone like Germany or Babylon and we win the game by having France and the lovely Joan win the game.

I feel I must crack in right here and insist on the aforementionned desires to see the lift-off of the next SGOTM.

Well, I see the SGOTM9 sign up thread... but it's closed :p

Didn't you get there in time? :mischief: You've got to be quick around here, you know! :p Oh well. I'll open it up again

Sorry

@AlanH, I see from the Submissions page that Team Bede is the only "Incomplete" Rather than hold up the posting of laurels and spoons I'll just lay my head on the block so you can drop the guillotine.

It was a great game, BTW, and I am really sorry Team Bede couldn't finish in a timely fashion.

The guillotine will fall on Sunday, maybe Monday, depending on when I get around to dusting off and respraying the awards. I'll then declare the winners.

I've stopped hiding the full finish status because you're the only team still to finish, but it would be great if we can have 100% finishes and victories in this game.
