For regular transport it is going to be hard to beat wheels. If you have something really sensitive to shocks it might be worth it.

Aluminum plates might be more cost effective than thick copper foil, though.

Palette jacks are a nightmare, and they screw up the floor and then they are even worse. I think that would be a good application if you could do it cheap enough. Aluminum might be a good bet for that.

Question: why would the aluminum have to be thicker than the copper? Lower conductivity?

Yes. Electric and thermal. At the same thickness, the losses in the metal would be higher. That means you need more power and generate more heat, which you need to get away.
 
Yeah, but you think the sheer novelty would've been sufficient reason to have it be used in toys 'n such?
