Atlatists being cheap to build is pretty handy. I was wondering if anyone used their 'ability' to be built without needing archery. By the time I build any archer unit I've already researched archery on the way to watermills. So I was wondering is there any use this aspect of the UU?

Build them all the time before Archery, particularly when rushing Theology to start the Long-Count ASAP.
I'm surprised I hadn't noticed Theology started the long-count. Thanks!
Yep. At Standard, early game Long-Count years are 62, 72, 86 and 101, but you need to finish Theology at least 2 turns before the turn in quesiton to get a Great Person on that turn (e.g., finish Theology by turn 70 for the turn 72 GP).
