An update to the World According to Modders has been a project long in the making, and this iteration marks the culmination of my ten years within the Civ modding communites in the most fitting way possible: to finally hammer on and get it done. It is a homage to, and a good laugh with, the many people that have come and gone and made these ten years some of the most rewarding and meaningful experiences in my life. Churs lads, and I hope you enjoy.
Original Overview

Spoiler :

The World According to Modders was an April 1st, 2013 release featuring several of the times most prominent civ modders and the Lord God Whoward as playable civilizations. Although the original mod and an accompanying 'True Start Location' scenario is still available (see below), plans to release each civilization individually and updated have begun. The initial release features Whoward and Gazebo (see below).

If you want to be included as a civ, you need only ask, but the priority at which you'll be included depends upon how many items from the FAL below you provide:

Full Asset List:
Spoiler :

  • Unique Ability; usually original.*
  • 2 Uniques (any combination; usually from across your mods, but they don't have to be - if they're not, however, you'll want to provide the art).*
  • Map.**
  • Leaderscene (Standard, Hostile).
  • Leader Icon.
  • Civ Icon.
  • City List
  • Spy List
  • Colony List
  • PM List.
  • Civilopedias.
  • Dawn of Man.
  • Peace and War Theme.
  • Generic Flavours.
  • Unique Flavours for Mercenaries, Religious Intolerance, Left-Center-Right Preferences (Government, Economic, Industry, Religion, Military, Culture, Foreign).
  • Greeting and Defeat diplomacy texts.
  • Unique Cultural Influence text.
  • Wish for the World.
  • Religion Preference.
  • Civ IV Traits.
  • Government Preference.
  • Legislature Name.
  • PM Office Title.
  • Political Parties.
  • Cultural Type (Main, Audio, Splash Screens, Unit Dialogue).
  • Ethnic Units type.
  • Map Labels type.

These are all the things a civ can have unique to them. You can provide as few or as many you wish, and I will fill out the remainder.

*Coded yourself, or otherwise. But I reserve the right to substitute what is not codeable with -1 Science Per Turn.
**If you aren't a civ-maker per se, then you need to provide your own map.

Original Original Overview

Spoiler :

A while back, Homusubi paid homage to the modders here with his fantastic map. Well, I've decided to take this one step further, and create from it a mod and scenario that reflects the work of those who have contributed to the development of custom civ-making for Brave New World.

First, this mod is an overhaul of the available civilisations. It removes all default 43 vanilla civs and replaces them with 12 custom civilisations that reflect those who have contributed significantly to the development of custom civilisations here. They can be played like any other civilisation - with whatsoever other mods you regularly use; though it is not recommended that you play with mods with add other custom civs (ironically so) and in some cases explicitly blocks them. All civs come with pre-built YnAEMP and Ethnic units support.

Secondly, this mod comes with two pre-built maps: a Large Europe map and a Huge Earth map. These maps are derived from Gedemon's YnAEMP. On these maps, cities are pre-placed to reflect the scope of each civ's civ-creating career. For the purposes of this scenario, unhappiness from the number of cities is halved and you begin with +5 Global Happiness; hence the maps are included in a separate mod. These effects are facilitated by your Palace, the position of which is not pre-determined.

Well, now this was quite amusing to see on a Monday morning. It certainly gave me my laugh for the day! Kudos to you all for making such an awesome way to acknowledge all of the incredible modders here!

It also makes me wish I was even half as good at coming up with traits as you guys are. I was wracking my brain this weekend to try to think of some interesting new twists for a scientific civ, and here you've got some traits with incredible new ideas I never would've thought of!

So thanks again for everything you guys have contributed and shared with the rest of us!

EDIT: Also, is Vicevirtuoso on the city-states list? I haven't had the chance to download the mod to check the city-state names, but I have been really impressed with the ingenuity of his ideas and code, so it'd be nice to see him get some recognition. :3

This is absolutely hilarious. You have now ascended to god-tier. My icon is bloody amazing. I have to pump some civs out quicker now to increase CL's map presence :D

Yes, as a Cultural City-State, IIRC.

So it begins. Though I find it a bit too suicidal to start next to Viregeltopia. :crazyeye:

Ahh, thanks!

Looking forwards to giving the mod a try when I get the chance... although I'm wondering if the Europe or Earth map is better? I'm guessing the Europe map will make it easier to meet all the other civs...

Europe just doesn't have TPangolin, but otherwise yeah, you'll meet everyone pretty quick on Europe. It's also a little bit easier on performance; starting with pre-placed cities can be rough if you use a Laptop like I do :)

Oh my god! The amount of hidden jokes, subtle jabs and awesomeness in this civpack is just amazing. A++++ Would play again and again and again.

The most hilarious thing ever

Hey, maybe each Top Modder will play as his civ and have epic multiplayer game? :D (i know mods don't normally work in multiplayer but there is some kind of solution for that, right?)

I can be Firaxis :p

In that case, if it happens again, can you post your database.log and lua.log files (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=487482).

Is this what you're looking for?

Yes, that's exactly what I'm looking for, thanks. The problem is that you don't appear to have the latest patch for the game, which adds the missing tags listed in there. The patch also adds the audio functionality that shows up as an issue.

That's a bummer, due to me living in Bosnia I can't play the official Firaxis version.
Yes I am a horrible person, but Steam is impossible to use here, the download takes ages.
but don't get me wrong I bought the game.

:lmao: That is, quite simply, awesome. Especially "This Trait is OP".

I hope you don't mind, JFD, if for my own personal use I add myself... :mischief:
