Has anyone ever seen something like this? (screen shot)? Seven of them were captured?

Also--In another area I found another three.

I'm only on Prince level and playing as Ottomans.

I've never seen that many AI missionaries being captured.

I'm just curious and not complaining, as I figure it's less missionaries headed my way :)

That is normal when an zealous AI gets the urge to forcibly convert someone but they too lazy to escort the missionaries so they get nabbed by the barbarians as the result.

Its always hilarious to see the large horde of prisoners.

I once stumbled upon an city state island with about four workers and i rescued all but one for influence boost with the city state then smashed the encampment for other 50 influence. Along with few more influence boosts for killing barbarians inside the borders/next to borders. That city state became allied to me for life.

Edit: Now I'm wonder how much rescuing seven missionaries will make the AI love you.. Enough to never denounce you even when you're destroying the whole world except for the ones who you rescued?! xD No idea! lol

@Callonia: It is pretty hilarious. I've never seen that many at one time that were prisoners. I've seen the AI send that many through my borders all at once, but never seen so many as captives.

You're right--I wonder what would happen if I rescued them all. Maybe I'll go back to one of my saves and see what happens.

@Pegasus_77: I know what you mean. You would think the AI would rescue them. I know I'd be wiping out that camp and mounting a rescue if I started losing missionaries to barbs.

I don't think the rescue bonus stacks, actually. If I recall correctly, you get a single one based on the value of the unit returned; Settlers give the highest.

It's still a decent bonus though.

it would be cool if barbs used the missionaries to try and convert civ cities to a barb only religion. by which i mean one only barbarians can found but can be spread of course.

I wish there were minor religions like in the Brave New World Scenario. Ones that CS's or barbs could have. I guess pantheons currently serve this purpose but I hate it that they are all completely erased at the sign of the first "real" religion. Lost +5 food from camps as venice this way...my city would have been way bigger if could've kept the bonus. :)

Thats possible. You could be surprised how much faith ais spend in making religious units such as missionaries or prophets.
