The time: December 2004. The place: Austria. The difficulty: Emperor.

Another high scoring, close-fought competition was played out in December, this time with an interesting range of victory conditions vying for the top places.

For the second COTM in succession, Dynamic takes the gold medal, this time with an impressive pre-1000 AD Diplomatic victory. Xarin kept warmongering alive, triggering Domination in 610 AD for silver, and Ronald's 100K Culture win in 1490 AD took the bronze medal.

Here are the full results, and here are the QSC results. Please join me in congratulating the award winners, and all who took part in this challenging game.

Congratulations Dynamic! Getting gold with a victory condition other than Dom or Conquest is truly an amazing achievement. :band:

And Ronald got the Bronze with 100k culture!

Congrats to everyone. I hate I missed this game, as it seems to have been very interesting to play. It certainly had fascinating results!

Ditto, ditto and ditto. Must go off to read the spoilers, because the results table is the coolest thing I've ever seen. ;) Hats off to all.

Well done everyone! Wish I'd been in a Republic, not Monarchy though....

Indeed. The most unusual results I ever seen. Therefore, my special congrats to
Dynamic (I did not believe that he could win diplomatically)
to
Kuningas for beating SirPleb, stealing both awards and taking a lead towards Eptathlon
and to
A'AbarachAmadan for stealing an award from Ronald.

Congrats every players! I happy for Me and Ronald got non-conquest types of victory an may be other players will be play with more enthusiasm. :)

Congratulations indeed :goodjob: . But from what I remember from the first spoiler both you and Ronald played very aggressive warmongering early games. Therefore although the final victory types were non-military, it hardly encourages a peaceful approach.

Congratulations! :goodjob: It is nice to see some non-Domination Victories in the medal positions! (Especially Dynamic's that also won award!) But I echo Offa's comments.

You are right! But "early" war is necessary for high scoring and many of known civilizaton have a war past before stay peaceful. ;)

I agree. Name any great civilization, whether it is now known for its cultural, scientific or diplomatic strength, that has not had to fight for its position in the world at some time in the past.

My first play in the top 10 score! I'm very happy.
congratulations to all the players.
I'm please to see that 2 players Dynamic and Ronald succeed thier COTM with a special victory conditions : Diplomatic in 990AD !!!!! and Cultural 100k in 1490AD!!!
Woo ! The domination of Xarin in 610AD is a beautiful game too!

My special congratulation to A'AbarachAmadan! This 1425 AD 100K Culture Victory with 10507 points is an excellent game. I was trying to go both for score and award. I thought I had a shot on it, but A'AbarachAmadan was just too good. :goodjob: :goodjob:
On a similar note: Sir Pleb tried to combine 20k and score but Kuningas who concentrated first on 20k got the award. (Both played great games)

Ronald

PS: Offa is completely right: Without very agressive play early on, a high score is not possible

Actually my victory was 100K (80K for small map) not 20K type, thus I probably should get less Jason.

Thanks for reminding me, horragoth. I've corrected the records and the post. It dropped your score by about 70 points, but not enough to change the positions.

I hope the new submission system is going to resolve culture victories correctly. The old one didn't have enough horsepower to determine whether there was a city with 20K culture, and assumed 20K if the 100K threshold wasn't met. This felony was compounded by the fact that, on a small map, 100K wasn't the right number, hence the error in your case. The new one should do all of this correctly.
