I have discovered a method to reduce the number of roads preserving conections between tiles. It was applied to the roads I was using, stone roads made by cassembler:

Another advantage is that big cities aren't invaded by side roads:

If somebody want to change other kind of road graphic, the algorithm is something like:

Code:
FOR each tile:

First:
IF a tile side is fully roaded (center side road and both diagonals) THEN
erase the side road.

Second:
IF a tile has a center road in a side AND the two closer sides are roaded THEN
replace that side road with a diagonal road to the closest corner
(there is normally just a free diagonal, except a few cases)

I think that the simplest thing is to follow the new connections :dubious:

Thanks Niessuh! looks awesome!

fantastic.. but could you do it for the origianal roads please?

bump

....

Sorry, These days I'm short of time. You can try yourself, all you need is Microsoft Paint, is what I mainly use :D

This set of roads results from :
genuine roads, plus a little improvement, plus a lightening.

Note : works with [civ3], maybe also with other civ-flavors.

Unzip,
backup ...\Civilization III\Art\Terrain\Roads.pcx,
then replace it.
