How do I PtW with Conquests?

I have the original Civ III and the Conquests expansion. Conquests installed PtW and Conquests, yet, I only have the vanilla and Conquests CD's. This is my first time trying to play PtW and I can't figure out how. On the back of the Conquests box, it clearly says, "Includes Civilization III:Play the World Multiplayer Expansion Pact" How do I get it to run?

I know. I'm trying to play the GotM with PtW. Everytime I try to startup PtW it asks for the PtW CD which wasn't included. Was the Conquests package lying to me?

Did you ever have PtW on your hard drive before you installed Conquests?

No. It installs in the Atari Start Menu Directory when Conquests is installed. It even says on the box you can play it, but it won't work with the CD's I have.

what patches are you running and did you install them in order, ie Vanilla, then PTW, then Conquests, I had something similar when I first installed Conquests, many moons ago and it had something to do with the order I installed the patches

vanilla,conquests,ptw
or
conquests,vanilla,ptw

if this is the problem, what I did was

install vanilla, patch vanilla
install conquests, patch ptw, patch conquests

when I did it out of order I had the problem, I cannot guarantee this is your problem but it may be worth a re-install attempt (but if it isn't that then sorry i don't know)

I'm just going to play it on vanilla with alan's all-in-one mod. If I feel an extreme need to play PtW someday, Zurichuk's fix will probably work.

Don't use the PTW patch, it will then assume you have PTW by itself. When you install Conquests it should put the most updated version of everything besides Conquests.

Why play PTW when you have Conquests? Conquests has all teh features of PTW and more... :hmm:
Sure, for single player games you might as well stick with C3C (although some would say the changes from PtW make it a lot easier :mischief: )

However, the full context of this thread is that MeteorPunch has asked in the GOTM Forum how to play a Classic Game of the Month using his software. We run two Games each month, one for C3C and one for the 'Classic' versions of Civ3. We run the Classic games for people who don't have/can't have C3C - eg Mac players like me! They are separate games because of the wide differences in game rules between Conquests and the rest, which make it difficulkt/impossible to compare entries across the versions. In order to play a Classic GoTM he will need to play using unmodded PtW, or modded 1.29 'vanilla'. He'd like to play unmodded PtW, but it won't start up with his C3C disk.

I hope this clears up the confusion.

Did you install any patches for PTW? If so, then don't (as Trip said) ;)

yeah...so...I uninstalled the patch and it still doesn't work. Anyway, I guess I'll just stick with vanilla and conquests....although I think higher scores are possible on PtW due to more wonders/etc...

Just try uninstalling conquests and PTW, and reinstalling Conquests. Don't patch it - just try starting up PTW. It should then work.....
