The final spoiler for COTM11: Korea -Unlimited, unrestricted, uncensored discussion here!

So, how did it all go? Did you reach the modern ages at all? And what happened to the other civs? What civ do you want to play next?

Well, that means I did at least one useful thing today... :crazyeye:

Uncensored? Scary thought.... :p ;)

Predator, fixed barbarians...

As mentioned in the earlier spoilers I played this game as a builder. Upon entry of the Industrial age (370AD) I got steam power as my free tech. Nice! :D
I decided to beeline to Scientific method, to complete my prebuild for ToE and trigger my GA. That worked just fine. In my GA I was able to do Industrial age techs in 4 turns. After fully improving my core cities I also built/upgraded some guerilla's and I went to war with Carthage to claim the furs they had. Slow progress but very few losses. Japan was next, which also lost some land to me. At that time I was nearing the end of the Industrial age and I settled for peace (I simply can't play an entire game peacefully, even if the goal is a diplomatic win). After ToE Pyongyang had begun a palace prebuild to switch to the UN later.
After my GA I was able to do the later Industrial age techs (Flight, motorized transportation) in 5 turns.
Late Industrial age was just pressing enter and cashrushing some buildings.
When I learned fission I switched my palace prebuild to the UN and the subsequent vote was easy (5-2, 1 abstention).

Diplo win in 910 AD.

Thans for a great game Karasu! ;)

Edited for spelling....

Predator. Barbs fixed.

Nice game Darkness. I lost by one turn.

I entered in the IA in 400AD. My free tech was Steam Power. In IA every tech were learned in 4 turns. I conquered Carthage in 460AD and Japan in 620AD. In those wars I had stack of Medieval Infantry and Hawkas with I used to trigger GA in 430AD. Occupied Japanese provided horse resource. In 650AD I trade for MT and use cavalry to dominate 60% of land masses. I could have won by domination in ~850AD. Now I know the map I think the fastest route to conquest would be combination of rails and cavalry.

Diplo win in 920AD. Nearly 10k Jason.

What civ do you want to play next?
Agricultural trait would be nice. Celts, Aztecs, Iroquois?

I didn't post in the second spoiler thread, but let me summarize: Open class, I'm going for 20K in Seoul, which I founded on the fresh water near the starting location. Anyway, in the Middle Ages, I had carved out a few Carthaginian cities with my medieval infantry, but otherwise mostly just built.

In the very begining of the Industrial Age, the Celts declared war on me. They took 3 of my Carthaginian cities, but thanks to a stack of H'wachas and Riflemen, I was able to beat them back and recover my cities. Then they brought Carthage into the war. I made peace with the Celts and conquered all of the Carthaginian territory (leaving Carthage with a single city on that 2-tile island off their west coast).

What followed was a series of non-war wars. One country or another would declare on me, schlep their troops to my territory, and get held off by my stack of H'wachas and Riflemen (later Artillery and Infantry). Alliances would get made by my enemies one turn, and then broken the next as I would make peace with the first aggressor, leaving the second to fight me alone. I think I wound up at war with every other AI, one or two at a time, in a series of overlapping wars. I really didn't want to fight -- particularly without any sort of pre-Motorized Transportation cavalry unit -- so I just defended my territory and didn't try to take the war to the enemy. Eventually, everything quieted down.

After that, it was an uneventful march to a 20K victory. Well, not quite uneventful -- as I was about 6 turns away from my victory, I realized "Holy cow! I'm researching Future Techs and India is only a tech or two behind me. That means they must be working on a spaceship!" F8 confirmed that they did, in fact, have 9 spaceship parts built. I rushed an ICBM, but didn't need to use it -- my ambassador wandered the Indian countryside until he found where the last part was being built. Fortunately, it wouldn't be complete until a good 3 or 4 turns after my scheduled 20K victory. So I kept an eye on that city, but as I said, never needed to nuke it. I was crowned supreme cultural grand poobah at the relatively pathetic date of 1910. Firaxis score, 1900; Jason score, 2975.

I vote Iroquois, starting near horses on a relatively small map just to see if some of our more illustrious players can secure a Conquest victory during the QSC period. ;)

Religious would be nice too, we've not played Religious in any COTM yet! How about Japan?

Umm, and my spoiler? Later, when I'm home, and can dig out the saves from some pictures.

open, 20K with minimum RL play time
1st spoiler
2nd spoiler
Celts are becoming incredibly strong due to my stupid allience strategy... very early in the game i thought Netherland was getting too strong and so allied Celts against them and then i thought Mongol was too strong and so allied Celts against them. finally when everything settles down, Celts is the single strongest nation in the world while India is the wealthiest nation from which i got a lot of gpt.
since my gold is 20k, and a minimum play time, i didn't really want to take on Celts. so the world is quite peaceful.

biggest mistake maybe the late library and the art of war... i have seen at least 2 players who are going to beat my crappy date... :p let's hope my 20k in gotm 42 will work ou fine...
edit: and amazingly they both show up immediately and post their spoilers below

and i vote for China for the next cotm. :) i like industrious...

It was a fun game, the first attempt on a 20K victory. It was reasonably well timed, I cannot right now think about many things I could have done differently, I finished in 1695. I did some serious leader hunting, getting 11 leaders that counted. But they started coming rather late. But at least I could rush many small wonders with them.

Towards the end of the game Indians and Mongols both attacked me. I wanted to check how many leaders I could actually get and during two turns I got 6 of them. I disbanded them straigth away, but was kind of fun to watch. Must admit that one of them came on interturn and was killed immediately afterwards. I only attacked with elite tanks at the time and I had positioned them around most mongol cities.

Industrial Ages.

The free tech was Nationalism, not the best but still necessary for aquiring the Intelligence Agency. Research orders: <Steam Power> <Industrialisation> <Corporation> <Electricity> <Replaceable Parts> <Medicine> <Scientific Method> <Sanitation> <Espionage>. Building orders: JS Bach, factory, coalplant, Magelhan's, Universal Suffrage, Wall Street, Theory of Evolution and Intelligence Agency. After researching Steam Power I had the biggest break in the game: G L O R I A I have coal in my little empire. If I hadn't I would have to gift the AI forward because there is no way to get a fast 20K without rails, factory and coalplant. 5 Cities in the empire are ordered to build banks and stock exchanges (for Wall Street) and hospitals (for Battlefield Medicine). In this stage of the game money is plentyful, so I can rush anything that needs rushing. Cheju, which is founded on top of the iron, starts building Hoover Dam. This to prevent the AI from getting it and to replace the polluting coalplant in Seoul.

After replaceable parts the MI are upgraded to Guerilla and more get build. The pikeman and the archer are used for rushing the factory and the coalplant. Slowly I can stop fearing an attack by the AI. I don't have rubber or oil but that doesn't bother me, it's only for military use. I don't have warplans and someday I will be able to trade for it. While building Battlefield Medicine we leave the Industrial Ages.

Modern Times

Battlefield Medicine has only 1 culture for 500 shields, so I used it as a pre-build for United Nations. Ofcourse I didn't know what my free MT-tech would be. Should I have got Ecology or Rocketry then I had to finish Battlefield Medicine. Luckaly I got Fission. As expected there is no uranium to be found in my small empire, so no Manhattan Project. I don't mind missing out on Manhattan as it has 1 culture for 400 shields. Research orders are <Computers> <Miniturization> <Genetics>. Building orders: United Nations, research lab, Internet, SETI, Cure for Cancer and Longevity.

I squeeze in some production enhancing improvements: offshore platform and manufactoring plant. Now that the strain on getting wonders asap somewhat lessens I hurry a market and a commercial dock also in Seoul. After Longevity only Battlefield Medicine can be build (I don't have the aluminum for Apollo). Last build is mass transit system. In 1750 Seoul decides to take a day off and switches to wealth.

1752 20K Firaxis 1656 Jason 4587 time played 11 hours.

Thanks Kuningas :)

Your Jason score is much higher than mine though... :goodjob:
IIRC, I had about 9K, maybe a bit more.

Arrrr, I suppose it was a fitting end to a bungled beginning. I decided my only chance for an award was the cow. So I was rearranging cities for a higher score and whoops! Domination in 1585. Jason in the mid-7000's. I haven't done very well the last 3 games now. Shucks.

btw- my submission is a recreation. Originally I turned off my comuter, before saving, when I saw I'd gone over the limit. The recreation didn't change my score at all. If it isn't acceptable, well, I'm not trying to pull a fast one!

First, thanks to Karasu for listening to the Korea request :goodjob: . Hwacha's came in handy several times when I didn't have an attacker left, or I didn't want to have an attacker be placed outside of the safety of the stack. On the overall though, Hwachas have been downgraded as a UU in my mind.

My game went pretty normal. Hwacha's/Bows/Pikes upgrading as I went along vs Carthage,Celts,Netherlands,Japan,Mongolia, and finally India (I had Modern Armor by this time...slowww).

Making my first and probably last attempt at Histographic victory, I noticed my Firaxis points gained per turn went down every few years:

1818 +35
1900 +29
1950 +25
1975 +23
2000 +20
2025 +19
2050 +16

I thought I'd be gaining in points but I guess I'm wrong. I've never looked for a good Histographic victory writeup though, so could someone explain why the points decrease.

Recreated from what?

Open

I entered the Industrial Age in 850AD, gaining Steam Power as my free tech :D I was at war with Japan, but hadn't yet started my Golden Age.

As soon as my Hwach'as arrived on the scene, I used one to pick off a wounded Japanese Longbowman, and my Golden Age started. I still didn't have Horses by then, so aside from the Ancient Cavalry from the now-defunct Statue of Zeus, my units were taking a long time to get to the front. Priority number one, then, was to organise my rail crews to build a transcontinental railroad ASAP!

I'd allied the Mongols against Japan, but not long after the Mongols signed a peace treaty with the Japanese, they attacked me. Before signing peace with them, I took a single city from them. I was still concentrating on Japan, and getting my Horses hooked up! As soon as they were, I started to build Cavalry. By that time, I'd already got Replaceable Parts, my railroad was complete, and Infantry and Artillery were able to quickly join the front lines from my ultra-safe core.

Ultra safe? Well, Carthage was sneak-attacked by a lone Viking Berserker. I took the city back next turn, and proceeded to wipe out Ragnar (and claim his two Luxuries whilst I was at it).

After Ragnar was finished off, I turned back to the Mongols and quickly despatched them, including the very satisfying razing of the size 20+ Karakorum (it had Shakespeare's Theatre) and replacing it with Anti-Karakorum the very same turn :D

The only other war I fought for the rest of the game was started by the Celts. It mainly involved them throwing wave after wave of units against Nara and it surrounding mountains, which by the time I was finished, was fully Barricaded and manned by Elite Infantry. I gained 3 MGLs from that arena. Eventually I got bored and sent a couple of Cavalry Armies to pillage some improvements, which sent my War Weariness up, so I had to sign peace. It was fun while it lasted - I don't think I lost a single unit. By the end of the game, the Nara Pass was manned by Mech Infantry, TOWs, Artillery, and a couple of Tank Armies

Whilst fighting, I was also researching! I never quite managed to get 4-turn research going, until I completed the Internet. From then on, it was 4-turn research all the way until my Spaceship launch in 1580, which gained a Jason score of just over 7k.

I did contemplate chucking a couple of my spare Nukes at Entremont and a few other Celtic cities the turn before my win... didn't though. Would've been a fun end to the game, though!

The AI had no Oil by the way - the only free source was on a 2-tile Swamp island that they'd never have set foot on!

Am I right?

Open, 20K. This was my first Conquests game, so I learned a few things along the way, but Regent is very forgiving. :) Enjoyed the game.

Decided to build Seoul 1 SE of start position and no other cities. Main concern was keeping the Vikings happy since they were close and can be aggressive. Didn't go to war with anyone until 1804...Mongols...for refusing to give fission. But by then I had barricaded infantry surrounding Seoul so I wasn't too worried. 20K victory in 1876. Going back to when I built the UN, I could have ended with diplo victory 20 odd turns earlier.

I really like the 'tourist attraction' addition in Conquests. Made my one-city Republic finances easier.

Seoul culture builds:
Palace 3950bc
Temple 3000bc
Colossus 2070bc
Oracle 1250bc
MoM 750bc
Great Lib 370bc
Library 270bc
Cathedral 260ad
Colosseum 340ad
Sistene Chap 610ad
Cop Obs 870ad
University 910ad
Shakespeare 1130ad
Theory of Evol 1580ad
Int Agency 1645ad
UN 1826ad
Research Lab 1828ad

Not picky about who we play next.

Am I right?

Well, pretty close. I had a save from 1580, after my moves had been done. I reloaded it, built some random cities to simulate what I'd actually done, went over the limit, and my in-game score was exactly the same as the first time. So I submitted that, in lieu of the lost original. If that makes sense.

That sounds like a later save than the last autosave. No problem with that

Open class. Goal – fast spaceship win.

I entered the Industrial Ages in 460 AD gaining Steam Power as my free tech. I researched Medicine in 4 turns, but it was going to take more than 4 turns for any other techs, so I started my Golden Age with Hwach’as against Scandinavia which brought my research back to 4 turns. Almost the entire rest of the game I spent at war with someone to try to keep gaining cities for specialists to keep 4 turn research. When war weariness got bad, I would sign peace and immediately declare war on someone else.

Wars:

520 – 690 Scandinavia
750 – 970 Carthage
850 – 970 Mongols
920 – 1060 Scandinavia again
1010 – 1100 Japan

All the wars were pretty one-sided due to my technological advantage. I fought with Hwach’as and Medieval Infantry vs. Pikemen, then Guerillas and Artillery vs. Muskets, then finally Tanks vs. Riflemen.

Wonders during the Industrial Ages included Newton’s University in 540 and Smith’s Trading Company in 930.

I did not research any optional IA techs, and all required techs were completed in 4 turns each. I entered the Modern Age in 1020 gaining Rocketry as a free tech. I completed the Theory of Evolution in the same turn and chose Computers and Miniaturization as free techs. I switched a well-timed (for once!) palace prebuild to the Internet to complete that in 1030. SETI was not timed so well – I didn’t finish that until 1090. Even still, with the help of the Internet and many scientists, I researched all the necessary Modern Age techs in 4 turns each. My spaceship was launched in 1320 which seems like a good date to me – after all, it should only be a couple hundred years behind DaveMcW.
