Problems loading starting saves

If you have tried to load the starting save for the Civ4 GOTM and it won't load because of the password protection (You get a message to this effect), then please use the save here instead:

http://forums.civfanatics.com/attach...0&d=1133131896

Thanks.

Have you tried a full uninstall (including deleting the install folders and the "My Games" subfolders, followed by a reinstall & patching?

Unfortunately, no. I'm really not sure if this is a Civ4 problem or a GOTM problem, and need more information. One guy had a success by fully uninstalling via the control panel, followed by manually deleting the installation folder, then the (hidden?) folders in \My Documents\My Games\ - then reinstalling and patching.

Other things to try:
- Don't try to load the game via double-clicking on the save - start Civ4 the load it via the menu.
- Tell us whether other save files load OK - is it just the GOTM save that doesn't load?

I hope you mean this message? (gif attached) (I'm currently @work and can't check right now...)

I have the Blue Marble-mod and 2 screen-mods - (HOF with victory condition + "a proper score graph" from the graphic-mod-section

I uninstalled the Blue Marble and it didn't work anyways so I reinstalled . I never had problems with other savegames (didn't play online or MP yet).

I don't think I can uninstall the HOF-screen since I put it in the real "assets" folder. Do I have to reinstall completely in order to be able to play GOTM's?? Would be a pity...

P.S.: Is it wanted that there aren't the right file-extensions in the save-files we download from here? It's not a big deal but I'm just curious...

If you download from the game release page you should receive it with the correct file extension because I've set the GOTM download server up to deliver the correct mime type. Also, my browser is usually picky about unknown extensions and adds .txt to them, but it's working fine on the unprotected one that Ainwood uploaded in the sticky thread, so I'm guessing that's also the case now for the main site server.

So I think the servers have been set up to give the browser the correct clues, and if this is still happening for you, maybe your browser is misbehaving?

@Dusty4prez: The first thing to check is if you have actually installed version 1.09. If your Civ4 is still expecting version 1.00 files then you will not be able to play the next game either.

Can you upload a sample file that's saved from your current Civ4 installation? We can then tell you whether it's running at version 1.00 or version 1.09.

You're right. It's creating version 1.01 save files. But your save misbehaves in my file reader ... investigating.

I don't know if it's significant, but your save indicates that you have a mod installed - Superciv? Have you tried loading without that mod?

How do you ensure that Superciv is not active?

Can you give me a save that's created from Civ4 the way it is when you try to load the GOTM save? It doesn't need to have many turns played. I just want to see if tehre's anything different about your setup.

I've identified that both your copies of Civ4 produce saves that have four extra data bytes compared with the GOTM save. If they are expecting that extra data when they read a saved game then it's not surprising that they crash when it isn't there, as in the GOTM save.

I'm not sure where to go from here, but it seems we now have to work out why your copies of Civ4 are different from the 76 that have succeeded. It's 01:30 am here, so I'll have to bail out for the night.
