WOTM 05: Shaka of the Zulu

This game MUST be played in Warlords patch version 2.08. We will NOT accept any games played under any other patch versions, and you can't play it in vanilla (plain) Civilization4!

Further, it MUST be played using the latest version of HOF mod for Warlords; version 2.08.003.

UPDATE
The Mac version of Warlords can now be patched to be compatible with version 2.08, so Mac players can now play this game using Mac Hof Mod 200.002. Links to the Mac start files have been added to the Game Release page.

Game settings:
Civilization: Zulus (Leader: Shaka; Traits: Aggressive & Expansive)
Rivals: 6
Difficulty: Prince (all the recent GOTMs and WOTMs has been of relatively high difficulty.. time for an easier game again..)
Map: Fantasy Realm, Crazy resources
Mapsize: Standard, Torodial (both east/west and north/south wrapping)
Climate: N/A
Water level: Low
Starting Era: Ancient
Speed: normal
Victory Conditions: all enabled
Other settings: Raging Barbarians, No Tribal Villages

Shaka:
Shaka is Aggressive and Expansive; starting with Agriculture and Hunting. Aggressive gives a free 'Combat I' promotion to all melee and gunpowder units, and gives double production on Ikhanda and drydock. Expansive gives +2 health in every city, +50% hammers when producing workers, and double production on granary and harbor.

Unique unit: Impi (hunting)
The Impi replaces the Spearman. The Impi has the same stats as a spearman, but have a movement of two instead of one, and get a free mobility promotion.

Unique building: Ikhanda (requires no tech)
The Ikhanda replaces the normal barracks. It has same effects as the normal barracks, but in addition it reduces city maintainance with 20%, acting like a mini courthouse (with both ikhanda and court in same city the maintainance is reduced by 70%). It is slighly more expansive than a normal barracks, but since shaka is aggressive, the net effect is that it is still faster to build than a normal barracks for a non aggressive civ.

The starting screenshot is here (Click for larger version)

Adventurer Class bonuses:
 1. Start with Mystisism and Mining techs

Challenger Class Equalizers:
 1. Start without Agriculture and Hunting techs

Woohoo! First to grab it!

....too bad I'm at work on a back shift, and won't be able to play 'til I get home...

Other two files seem to be there but adventure is missing. After I couldn't get adventure I clicked the other two to see if they worked and both were there (didn't download just clicked) but get the following message for adventure:

Sorry, file civ4wotm54adventurer.CivWarlordsSave is not available.

Seems the link is wrong.. it should have 05 inside the filename instead of 54 ...
I cant fix it myself atm, so unless someone else can fix it, it will be a few hours before i can.

correct link should be : http://gotm.civfanatics.net/download.php?file=civ4wotm05adventurer.CivWarlordsSave

Link has been fixed and downloads the correct file. Thanx.

Now I just wish I could play this one!

does anyone else have problems with the game crashing on Fantasy Realm ? I think this is a problem specific to the map type (not specific to WOTM5 save) ...because my civ4/warlords has been very stable except when I try to use fantasy realm.

cas

edit: nevermind...the problem was more widespread and just happened to start the same time I was trying Fantasy Realm maps for WOTM5. Removed/reloaded civ4 & warlords...problem is gone.

I have trouble loading it with the Contender save. I get a runtime error:
'The application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way'.

EDIT: nevermind. First wotm for me, just realized I need the patch AND the mod...

This north south wrapping map is all black on one (north) side. Must be a video driver issue. Can't play this..

Most recent driver for Intel 82852 does not fix this... :(

I am having the same issue - the north side of the map is black terrain. I am playing on a laptop with Intel 82852 controller.

It was the same for me as well guys.

I tried to play it but it really was like 'dancing in the dark' and I hope this cannot be classed as a spoiler but I died at 2200BC through a mix of incompetence and blindness - but mostly blindness.

It was ridiculous! You're gonna have to provide me with a white cane and a laborador for me next time if it's like this, guys...

(I already have the sunglasses)

Oups! It is the same for me.
My first game (wotm5) and already no luck: I also have a black zone.
I can see the silhouette of the units, but most of the time I am simply guessing, and it is impossible to play if you want to keep the fun and not be a Stakhanovist of Civilization…
I have copied my saved game into my laptop (I started on a desktop) et voila: it works fine and I am not blind anymore.
What can I do now?
A- May I install into this laptop the saved game just before I encounter the black zone?
B- Or should I stick with my desktop and continue to play with the black zone (i.e.: if it is yes to this, I will then retire as playing is no fun)?
C- Or may I play with the laptop, with the last saved game produced, which mean about 30 to 40 turns already played in the black?

Anyway, whatever is the answer, the result will always be unfair: if I reload before the black zone, I have (almost...) the advantage of knowing what can happen turns later (even if I can not see properly the ground!), and if I continue, I have a very heavy handicap against the players who have a good computer and do not experience the same visual issue…

Apologies to all who have experienced the black terrain issues. We thought this bug had been squashed by Firaxis, but apparently not.

@Lili: I realise it's not what you want to hear, but if you wish to submit you must play on from your last save. You may, of course, do this using your laptop - option C.

This bug seems to only show maps which wrap north/south as well as east/west. As long as Warlords is still at 2.08, I would suggest avoiding torodial (sp) maps.

When asked, it is exactly what my husband told me .... I just wanted to be sure :mischief:

If it is unfair to 1 but fair to many others, so then it is fair.

Anyway, black zone or not, I am afraid it won't have a huge impact on my pityfull game ...

When asked, it is exactly what my husband told me .... I just wanted to be sure :mischief:

Wow! A husband and wife CIV4 playing combo. That sure sounds like heaven! I wish I could get my missus playing CIV4...

There are both advantages and disadvantages. Like me having to do the dishes because my beloved wife has to play just one more turn... But now she has moved on to Neverwinternights II (and I still do the dishes :( ).

I play Civ4 because my husband stop playing it and I can use his dvd quietly. (He said: "I wait for Spore", and is right now having great fun with Oblivion ...). When I was 14 my brother used to play Civ2 and I always found this soooooo nice and cute!!!
For the dishes, because of my husband's work, we live in Africa: It is simple and easy to hire people for doing the work you are too lazy to do...
But I like cooking, Thai food...:)
Oops, I am afraid all this is off-topic.
Except that, as I come from The Land of Smiles (Siam), I like to see people happy-smiling around me, and so is my strategy in Warlords: having people happy, smiling, with luxury resources ( ) and having good diplomatic relations with each others. Unfortunately, this approach of life is not very much rewarded in Warlords and wotm (I practiced with wotm3, and I went back cooking very quickly...), and Shaka is not very friendly, or perceived as friendly, and I am not sure I like to play an African monster ( I am living on the edge of Zulu lands!): this 1st wotm I do and will submit is

The 2.08 version of Mac Warlords is now out, so starting saves for this game are now available for any Mac Warlords players out there. See the first post for links to the Mac HoF Mod for Warlords and to the release page where the Mac start files are available.
