Has this been the case with other people?

I use a G5 iMac w/10.4.9 and 1GB of ram. I've been playing regularly with my house mates who use PC's with the rev A patch no problem, we've been playing sucessfully for a long time now. Tonight we decided to finally update to 2.08. Under the patch, we get about an hours worth of play in before I go OOS. Reconnecting does not solve the problem. After a reconnect, you can play for one turn, then I go OOS again. Saving the game, restarting and reconnecting has the same result. This has happend every game, and trust me we tried to play many. There hasnt been a new patch issued. Is there a work around for this?

BTW did a complete reinstall just for applying the patch. We tried this when it was first released, and had the same problem. I was hoping updating to 10.4.9 would help but no such luck.

This seems to be a known issue. See this thread, where the subject was raised recently, and this one where the same poster has received no words of comfort.

I suggest you report it to Aspyr support. If you have a save that demonstrates the problem they *may* be interested in investigating it.

Done. Contacted Aspyr with a saved game as well. Thanks for the quick reply Alan.

It doesn't look good, given that it's been so long since the last patch came out.

Guess its back to 1.6 for us.

You know, this also isn't helping my friends already low opinion of the mac.
I COULD have a full version of the game. If I bought a PC...

Got this response from Aspyr:

"Unfortunately this is a known issue that we currently don't have a fix for at this time. We are looking to patch this issue but I don't hae an ETA at this time. To keep up to date as info is released you can go to the news section of www.aspyr.com.

I'm sorry I couldn't help more. One thing you can try in the mean time is to leave the game and then reconnect."

Heres to hoping "looking to patch" means they are working on it, and not "we want to fix, but won't be"

My theory is that saving and reconnecting won't solve the problem, because you're saving a state that's already OOS. Did you try reloading to the turn preceding the OOS?

I'm going after the same problem. I have a PC, and the other player has a Mac. I have a Pitboss set up, and we managed to get to 500 AD during our first game, before OOS kicked in. We tried reconnecting, but it didn't help, so we just ended up playing with the OOS message still on, until around 1000AD units along with terrain started randomly disappearing.

I then tried a second game, but placed myself (the PC) as player #2, and that seemed to help, because we were able to get all the way to 1700AD before OOS. Rejoining right after OOS, allowed us to get 2 more turns each before new OOS, but I will try reloading earlier turns tonight and see if that helps more.

It really is an irritating problem, especially if you invest a lot of time in a game already. Makes me wish there were no Mac's out there :)

Good thing you were smiling when you said that. The problem isn't Mac and Apple, but Civ IV mac and Aspyr. I doubt you will find anyone on THIS forum that will stand up and defend Aspyr no matter how much he loves Mac.

I understand that. And this forum understands that. But I get where Rahl is coming from on this, and I've been using macs my whole life. It's the perception that this is causing. We get a pretty big weekly LAN game going on here. I've informed the house that there is no fix, that we ALL have to reinstall back to warlords 2.0. Now that its stepped on our routine, everyone's pissed. I get nothing but "macs suck!" from the living room. Cuz what am I going to do? I'm not going to NOT play with my friends. It's why I bought the game.

This whole thing has me seriously considering buying the windows version when I upgrade to an intel mac. Even if they patch it tomorrow. I know, I should support mac gaming so we get more stuff, but Aspyr is making it hard for me to want to.

Yep, this is a known problem. I've been encountering it for months. It doesn't go away on reload, it sometimes happens very soon after we start (and sometimes doesn't). It sometimes is just annoying (nothing's noticeably out of sync, we've just got big red letters on the screen), and sometimes there are very bad issues (units not in the same place on two machines, etc.).

My family plays, mix and match, with several macs and PCs. We don't have enough of either to go around for a lan-game, so it's a bit of a PITA. It's very tempting to just remove the patch. We can't install windows on some of the macs, and that isn't a particularly good solution anyway.

The fact that they know this is a problem and haven't even figured it out/patched it, doesn't bode well for how much in the way of resources they'll have to get BtS out the door, either :(

Don't get me wrong - I know it has nothing to do with Mac itself. But if there were no Macs - all Civ players would have PCs, and I wouldn't have to worry about compatibility issues.

Yeah, but by the same reasoning if there were no Windows then all Civ IV players would have Macs and there'd be no compatibility issues. Or maybe if that were the case then there'd be a Linux version too, who knows?

Reloading to the turn prior to the OOS seems to be working pretty good. We went about 20 turns since then, and still no OOS. We are using a pitboss though.
