Wyrmshadow made my much-hoped-for Arsenal Ship!*

Cancelled some time ago (squeezed out of USN funding by the Carrier And Submarine club) this stealthy craft was designed to get in close and undetected and launch many, many missiles. To my thinking, this has always been a "sensible" approach for a smaller blue water navy than the USN, and I've been literally requesting it for years.

It's a beauty - IMHO Wyrmshadow has outdone himself. The Death anim is a light-show in its own right.

I was tempted to hold onto this until the mod I'm working on comes out in a few months; a few nanoseconds' thought reminded me that I'm not that selfish. :)

Best To All,

Oz

*I wouldn't advise making any fervent requests to him. This ship we're sharing with you had its genesis in friendship (to those of you who saw my post about being willing to pay for this beast: I didn't).

-O.

Awesome unit, Wyrmshadow, as usual.

The simplest plans are the best plans, and this is no exception.

Why don't you just post this in the unit database rather than the uploads folder?

It's a masterpiece, even for Wyrm's standards. Congratulations!

There is only a minor problem with a purple line going through the ship in some directions (e.g. NW direction in the defend.flc). Or is it something with me? But that's nitpicking - I really like this ship and the new wake effect while moving. :)

Now you really have outdone yourself on this one. Love that victory open all the missle doors. Although that seahawk coming onboard is also nice as well as the new unique death.

It's something with Flicster, I dont know WHY it does that on my units.

It has to do with the size.... Any unit that's 200x200 or bigger does that in the NW direction.

Plotinus figured out a solution for this a while back (I had this problem with some of my units, too): Put a blob of GREEN (color index #254) next to where the disappearing pixels are that's about the same size as the disappearing pixels (in the original storyboard, not the messed up one), and it they won't disappear.... In addition, the green (or whatever index #254 happens to be at the time) is just as invisible as Magenta (color index #255), so it won't show up in-game.

I don't understand that "green blob" fix. If the missing graphic is a horizontal line, do I put a horizontal green line next to it or what?

Wyrm would have to do it, since the green blob would have to be done on the ORIGINAL, unmarred storyboard pcx files.

Or, just uses Flicster to export it to a pcx file again, and repair it. Then, use Flicster to make a new Flc from the new pcx storyboard.

With my units in the past, this has been a hit and miss problem. I really wish someone would have come along and repaired this flaw in Flicster.

EDIT: I just realized what I suggested would be very time consuming, since it would require fixing it in a paint program, going pixel by pixel.

This is how I do it. I've gone back and looked closer at some of my older units, and I have a few I need to fix. This method is a pain, but it works. One thing I've noticed is that you have to manually use the paintbrush to add new pixels in your paint program (I use PSP). C&P does not seem to work.

Agreed.

BTW, Wyrm, this is a great looking model with excellent anims. I kinda wish we had built these things. Looks can be damned when you can rain that kind of death down on an enemy.

Ever since I was 8 and I saw the concept in a Popular Mechanics... I've liked this idea.. But my idea at the time would have been to use an oil tanker type hull, and just fill it with MLRS launchers.... How did I know about those at that age? Well my first book was a pictoral history of the Polish Army... and it had lots and lots of Katyusha pictures in it.

And why do poeple dislike stealth ships? I think they're fabooo.

Is there a way to fix it using Civ4flcedit? I still have all my storyboards, I was smart enough not to erase them this time. The reason why I ask is because I dont use EDIT to double check my pallettes, but use Flicster to make flcs because it's fast.

This wouldn't work either, since it would just corrupt again. You need to do it the way Hikaro said. First, repair the storyboard - either by manually correcting the corrupted pixels or by copy and pasting your renders into it again. Then put a line of green pixels to the left of the ones that have the tendency to disappear. The bug will "eat" them up instead of the others. In fact, I expect that simply changing the background colour entirely to green (that is, the penultimate colour on the palette instead of the last one) would also solve the problem, although I haven't tried that.

The problem affects very wide units. The only one I have had it with is my Nazgul - see the thread about it here. If you can make the flic less wide, that will help too, but the above solution will work.

I just chatted with Bhiita. After that I used Civ3flic for the 1st time. Problem has been fixed. I have resent the new files to Ozzy for him to upload. Sorry for letting a glitch be included in my work. I thought I'd have to live with it.

Spoiler :
The reason why I made this for Ozzy is that he really did 'pay' me. If you look in my USAF/USN thread, some of the aircraft have an * for a 'sponsored' model. Ozzy paid for a subscription to a 3d model website so that I could have some high quality toys to play with, and for the rest of the civ community to enjoy as well. Many months ago Ozzy had offered some monetary assistance when I was in trouble. I didn't want that sort of charity so I suggested a different avenue, something more productive that merely paying for computer parts. So the next time you are enjoying one of my units, check to see if there is a * next to its name and give thanks to where it is due.

I put a lot of extra work and detail into this unit because Ozzy deserved it, he had been asking for it for years. Where else are you going to find a 61 frame death?
