Unit Requests: Steampunk

Balthasar, KingArthur, and I have been busy bees, and tests of Balthasar’s “Lost Worlds” scenario are very promising. The beta of it is not quite ready to unveil yet. One of the things sorely needed is units for which there just are no good stand-ins. Hence this thread. The links are to fuller descriptions & concept art in further posts. Please post questions, your potential interest in making a particular unit, or links to available units we may have overlooked that are suitable for our needs. Hopefully something on our list intrigues your creativity.


Still Needed/ Wanted - please contact us for details if you wish to make any of these:


1. Barsoomian Beasts - We need Thoats with riders most of all, then 4-armed White Gorillas, then Zitidars.

2. H.G. Wells' Time Machine - model available

3. Dr Caligari - an evil hypnotist. Plotinus' Victorian Gentleman looks just like Caligari; what we have in mind is an m-unit that unites him with his sleep-walking flunkie, Cesare. You can see the original silent film >Here<. I guess we need a Cesare unit, first.

4. For Blue Monkey's Dark Continent Steampunk Mod: African animals. Might as well ask now!

Aerial Commando
Think of him as a steampunk paratrooper.
Suggested Attacks: Ketchum Grenade followed by Pistol.
Free ketchum grenade model and some wing models

EDIT: The "Steampunk Airman" @ DAZ3D is a set of props that might work well for this fellow - added to a SP style jumpsuit.
The wings look a little small, but the steam engine is interesting, & he's got a very SPish looking handgun.

The blue light flashes, there's that unmistakable sound*, and it slowly fades ...

Models in various formats: Blender , 3DS Max + some surface map tiffs to make it look weather-beaten, Carrara/Lightwave, Poser

* Several of the sounds - in stereo .wav format, so they'll need some work, but I think there's enough for all the "animations" (how does a TARDIS fidget?) to be distinguishable.

Yes, some very interesting units.
Did you guys think about the Victorian Spy as a 'Sherlock' unit? Just not SF enough?
And as for the diving dress, somebody recolored that Martian unit to look like an underwater diver, looks pretty SF to me.
What exactly does 'poison gas cannon' entail, not that I can make it, just interested...
You guys need something bigger than Hikaro's land battleship? That'll be interesting...
Lastly, that Aerial Commando concept art is too cool.

Heh, the Doctor is a good idea. I think the eighth Doctor is pretty Steampunky too, although of course the fourth is more iconic.

I would actually really like to make most of these, but alas, I just don't have the time!

I agree about the 8th - I've even heard his TARDIS' interior described as steampunkish. His hair style is vaguely reminiscent of the 4th & I like his sartorial flair. All of that is gleaned from stills - I wish Netflix had the DVD. The 6th's costume also has some interesting 19th c. elements. Perhaps someone will make a Dr. with bits of all of them.

TWIMC: There are versions of the Cybermen available at one of the TARDIS sites I linked to - with some brassy recoloring maybe they could be our steambot.

@ Plotinus - your suggestions and advice are welcome participation. We've been bandying about the idea of opening up the writing of 'pedia descriptions to volunteers willing to try their hand at pseudo - Victorian prose. Perhaps you'll find a moment to contribute a paragraph or two.

@ Plotinus: Also, I linked to some free wing models in the flying commando post. When you have a chance could you take a glance to see if their the ones you suggested?
