Hi,

i'd be willing to join in. im GMT +2, usually playing 9am or 6-7pm (local time).

From what i know from my little experience, these things seem to work:
- advanced start (lets not drag that lone warrior around for 2-3 months)
- optimal 6-7 players (enables about 1 turn/day), not too far apart in the beginning
- check out players timezones and organize turn sequence accordingly
- IF advanced start is used, then the game speed could be epic or even marathon. would give us more of that good old ancient/classic era warfare.

Random civs & leaders seems a good idea, adds a bit of fun. And why not make it random religions aswell.
Never played a toroidal map, does it change the game a lot?

Hi rd13 :)

I'd be happy to go with up to 6-7, but I'd settle for less. Let's see how many show up.

I also prefer an advanced start. Say 700 gold?

Game speed... I'm inclined to stick with standard, but I'm flexible. See what the others think when they arrive...

Timezones... yes.

How does one set random religions? I've never figured that out.

A toroidal map joins north-south as well as east-west, just like the real world, so one doesn't get hemmed in against the north or south poles.

Yes please.

I usually vote for huge maps - more time to build before bang bang time - and everyone else usually votes not, so I'm used to that. Still voting for it, though....

Pretty sure I've not done toroidal before, but that sounds a good idea.

Random religions is an option in setup, so something in main setup screen can be clicked, or not, to get it.
With random religions, I don't know how to tell who got which religious tech to start it - but from a comment in another thread by Ruff Hi, there is actually a way.

GMT.

Usually play at multiple times throughout day.
- except at the moment - but that course will probably be over before we get started.

There are a few players I'd be willing to play epic with, but not in a new game with (..I assume some..) unknowns (..will join..).
And I already tried to play marathon with some of the people I used to play epic with, and we quickly abandoned it as unworkable.

Welcome bathseba666 :)

My method with map size historically has been to set it to whatever gives me the right default number of players plus about 25%, then remove the extra players. We'll see what others think.

Count me in, as usual.

I'm about to capture the GL city in La Nina, unless he has a load of cavalry waiting ;) It's obsolete though so I may raze it.

I'd be interested in joining. Relatively new to the PBEM community in general but i think some of these guys can vouch for my reliability.

I also love huge maps, but only if we have AI's in the game as well. I dont want a huge map with only 4-5 players, thats just ridiculous. Scale the map to the number of players is my vote.

My vote is for normal speed, but I won't argue anything as long as its not quick!

Torroidal actually isnt like the real world, its more like a donut world. In the real world you cant go to the north pole and end up on the south pole ;) Anyway - I'd be fine with playing with this on or off... basically all the settings I am cool with.

And if we are going random leaders then this is a prayer up to the civ gods... give me someone new please!

Oh I am GMT -5 (USA east coast) and can usually do turns in the evening - 7pm-11pm, or in GMT terms, 12am-4am.

Definitely make sure you get the rotation right, that will keep the game moving. I have a spreadsheet I used for another game that helps plan it all out if youd like.

Never played an advanced start game ... could be interesting, no ( even if I prefer standard, 4000 BC starts ) ?

If possible - count me in too.

Advanced start isnt that different. You still start in 4000 BC but your first turn you get say, 500 gold, and you use it to buy cities, units, techs, population, culture, etc. 500 gold is approx 10 turns or so, so rather than spending the first 10 turns moving a warrior and struggling to get that first worker out, you can start off with a city (maybe 2!) a few improvements, a worker, a tech or two and maybe 2 units haha.

Welcome Nighthawk and Mitiu Ioan :)

So what are we up to...

rd13
Bathsheba
Paradigm Shifter
Nighthawk419
Mitiu Ioan
ricketyclik

That's 6! That might do, yes?

Good point about the the toroid NH, but I still prefer it :)

I've edited in the proposed playing order in the first post. EDIT: I did, I really did. WTH?

It seems we don't have any real disagreement over settings so far, so I may go ahead at any time. That's the sort of reckless, crazy, impulsive guy I am :D

Right, it worked that time.

rd13, I'm going to need your email address to send you a turn upon playing mine.

With respect to civs/leaders/religions, I'll check unrestricted leaders and random personalities, but to get a random religion do I check "choose religion" or no?

the "choose religions" option will allow you to pick a religion when you were up to found a religion. if you dont select this the normal religion will be founded.

awesome i am an true american psyched... i shall represent my country well

4000 BC to rd13.

You're all going to have to get your subsequent player's email address from them. Please alt-d your own email address into the game when you get your turn.

Kindly post here upon turn send.

I'll post a jpeg of the settings in the first post.

Good luck!
