SGOTM 17 - The Quartermaster's Challenge

Once again, kcd_swede has generously allowed you all to complete the challenge successfully.

Nine teams took the Quartermaster's shilling, and all achieved Conquest victories as required. In a close-run contest, Plastic Ducks took the Gold Laurels, 50 years ahead of the joint Silver winners, The Shawshank Redemption and Kakumeika. Misfit Gypsy Nuts narrowly beat Unusual Suspects to the Bronze Laurels.

Meanwhile, Xteam had the dubious honour of finishing over 300 years after the leaders, but a lot of the Phoenix Rising team seemed to fall asleep at the wheel. Gumbolt finished their work, but they had the lowest score (as well as the latest real time finish).

Let's congratulate all the teams.

Here are the award winners:

Yes, Kaku did win by Conquest.:goodjob:
Congratulations to all teams. :hatsoff: Especially, Plastic Ducks, who impressed us all with the Gold.

Spoiler :
Did someone say Goldmember?:joke:

You ALL defeated my map which I was sure would have given you more problems than it did. I have underestimated you all, and I apologize.:mischief:

You have now proven yourselves so valiently, despite my best preparations (the ones I call preparations A thru G), but with the help of Mini-Me (aka soundjata) I assure you that Preparation H will provide you with some brand new challenges that you will not find so comfortable. Get your mojo ready. Coming soon, SGOTM18.:mwaha::mwaha::mwaha::mwaha::mwaha::mwaha:

Spoiler :
Did you say ice cream? Someone get him some ice cream.;)

Congrats to all teams for well-played games. Kudos to Plastic Ducks for top honors. Thanks to Misfit Gypsy Nuts for rooting for us to tie ([pissed]).

Thanks to AlanH for another superbly administered game. :hatsoff:

Monga tusen tak to kcd_swede for a first-rate scenario. :goodjob: In my opinion, this scenario ranks with the best in terms of demanding a basic understanding of the highest level of CIV strategy elements. Frankly, I don't think any of us achieved excellence in "solving" the riddle of this scenario and the only SG players that I think would have, would have been Balbes and Obormot. This scenario forced me to re-examine the basics. Very well done!!!

I thought you were going to say me...

Congrats to all of the teams for successfully finishing this challenging game. Hats off to PD for doing it again! :goodjob:

Yes, many thanks to AlanH who did a great job keeping things running smoothly despite my own periodic absences. He's the guy who makes it possible. :king:

And I'm sure the Misfit Gypsy Nuts will agree that he is a generous fellow. 4 Laurels awarded was NOT my idea.:mischief:

We have always prided ourselves on not using tie-breakers in SGOTMs.

I checked the precedents before making a decision, and I found that we had previously awarded THREE silver laurels for SGOTM 3, so FIVE laurels were given out on that occasion. Why would we be less generous to equal winning dates this time?

Congratulations again to all teams :goodjob: Thanks to AlanH for organizing all this and to KCD for the challenging scenario :thanx: May your maps always be evil

Congrats on the wins. 1500's!

Good show everyone!

Hijacking my comment to make sure no one missed this small bug that was discovered no too long ago.

I thought this might be a result of Stonehenge not being valid for a Classical Era game. Nope, it also affects Ancient Era games too (just verified that by settling a city on turn 0). I'm very surprised that no one has noticed this bug before. It will definitely help test game makers get the correct coordinates of all cities before Calendar or Stonehenge, so this is a "white hat/good" bug in that regard. Ban it as an exploit? ;)

Congratulations to all teams! I sure hope next time the first 5 or 6 teams will have the courtesy to finish the same date in order for the Sporks to finally win a medal. :mischief:

And thanks of course to AlanH and kcd and the sunshine band for hosting. :hatsoff:

Yes, certainly. For future games, we plan to issue a new mod consisting of a post-it note that you will be required to stick on your screen, covering the relevant area.

This is possible to create, using an AP victory scenario. Of course, it might occur that everyone gets gold, but who cares?

Good game all, and particular thanks to kcd_swede and AlanH for running the show. :king:

Well done to all the Laurel winners. Thanks to Alan and KCD for all their help this game. Keep up the great work.
