Civilization 5 - Game of the Month Training Series Game 124
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\//////////////////////////////////////////

Welcome to the 124th game in the GOTM V Training Series! This Series will allow new and old GOTM fans to try out these features from Civ5's expansions and DLCs in a friendly environment. Participants are encouraged to post questions, stories, advice, tricks and failures in the dedicated game threads (described below). Each game will specify the Civ you will play and the Victory Condition to strive for. You can read more about the GOTM and Training Series concept in this thread.

Must Read!
We would like to ask you to abide by our most sacred rule: Don’t replay any turns! If you make a mistake, accept it and try to recover. To ensure fair play and prevent results exclusions, please set your Autosaves to 1 turn. In the event of a computer crash while playing, just reload to the previous save and play it as closely to how you played it the first time. Please let Leif, Hammer Rabbi or me know (either in the forums or through Private Message) if you experienced a crash and how many turns you replayed.

Mongolia Unique Attributes:

Spoiler :
UA: Mongol Terror +30% when attacking a City State or its units
UU: Keshik - Mounted missile unit, replaces the Knight.
The Keshik possesses a strong ranged attack and an increased movement rate (5 points total), allowing it to perform hit-and-run attacks remarkably effectively. Although its attack strength is a bit weaker than that of both the standard Knight and the Arabian Camel Archer, it has other advantages: it acquires more experience than the other units, and contributes double the amount of points towards earning Khans. Also, Keshiks do not receive a penalty when attacking cities.

UU: Khan - Replaces the Great General. Moves 5 spaces and heals adjacent units an additional 15 hp

This is where you will start:

Information about threads associated with each individual TSG -- Must Read if you are new to our Game of the Month!
Spoiler :
Please note: If you wish to make a video of your game, please do not post any links to it until after the game submission date has passed. This is because of the potential spoilers that are created by posting before the end date. Thank you for your cooperation.

TSG Announcement thread (this one): This thread is used to announce the game and clarify the settings and rules (don’t be afraid to ask questions). It’s also used to discuss the game before you start, and post problems with opening the save. Please don’t post any game-related info once you open and play the save. Instead use the next thread.

Opening Actions thread: This thread is used to discuss the game's opening decisions and strategies through the first 100 or so turns. Here you can post questions related to the game and share your achievements/anger/frustration/victories while you play. We encourage players to use the spoiler tags for screenshot. During the time the game is active, please do not post any information concerning the game outside of the spoiler threads including screen shots, videos, or recorded/live-cast Let's Plays on other websites.

After Actions thread: In this thread you can post the results of your game. Please state your victory/loss date (preferably in the post title) and describe your path to glory in this post! Players are encouraged to provide feedback on the game. Some players like to replay the game, and although we will not record the results from a replay, you can still post your new experiences. The game will not be closed as such, but after one month, the results will be compiled, and will not necessarily be updated with reports coming in after the finish date.

Results and Congratulations thread: We will create a separate thread with the results at the end of the one month submission period (sorted by earliest date and highest score ). We will issue a medal to the top winner (based on earliest date finished for each VC). There are no long-term records kept for these results, they are just given out to top finishers to reward their efforts.

File Upload System
We have a game file upload system you can find here. Please use it to upload your completed first attempt by saving the game on the turn after your victory or defeat. (by using the "lemme play one more turn" feature) Please note: you must submit your game on the turn following Victory. If you continue to play, the game overwrites the data and your submission could be rejected by the submission system.

This game runs for a month and ends January 15th, 2016.

The save will be available for download on December 15th, 2015, midnight Central Standard time (UTC -6:00) in the US.

The Save can be found here.

I cannot see the starting location picture.

edit: I see the above comment after posting.

Image file name now fixed. You should be able to see it.

I've never played the Mongols before. Is there a preferred era for them to begin war mongering or is it right off the bat? OR do you even need to war monger at all?

Can start as soon as you get chariot archers, and pretty sure someone can finish the map with keshiks if the other continents can be accessed early. Obviously domination will be fastest victory type. Starting pic shows plains, so as soon as you get horses.

I think culture should be about as fast as domination here, either way it's an Astronomy rush. I suppose Liberty finisher GAdm works too if you manage to find someone from the other continent(s) with it and get a city from them in a peace deal, so you can rush units there to explore further.

ah yes, it's a Large map. I've played a total of 1 so I have no clue how it works :)

There are very few cities that can withstand 8 R3 logistics Keshiks for more than 2 turns

It does slow down significantly at industrial era or AI that built a large number of defensive structure/wonders. And they're completely obsolete at modern era with flight.

If you reach the modern era while playing Mongolia, something went wrong!

(unless of course you are playing for Science or Diplomacy VC, in which case you don't really need to be warmongering past your opening continent)

True, even close to turn 200 Keshiks can still wreck a city in 2-3 turns, providing there isn't any rifles/infantry around

I've actually never played a large map :p
Might try this one. I sure won't get the fastest finish time for any VC but why not :crazyeye:
Seems like settling on the hill/mountain is worth losing access to wheat for a few turns.

Edit : Woot 1000th post after 13 years

If you think it might be tough for a fastest finish for any VC, why not maximize your score for a Time Victory?

It is Large map, but there are two civs less than default.

The fastest overall times will go to either a Sacred Sites Culture Smash or a quicker Domination victory. Race to Astronomy either way, and this is King so there is no need to worry about Keshiks going obsolete. Especially if you follow the thread below:

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=516051

Just enough helpful information to not over-complicate things. I highly recommend double scout and monument start now, waiting around for social policies is unnecessary. Liberty left, and then honor left just in time for Keshiks will be my strategy. Cap will build Scout, Scout, Monument, Worker (Because its king and I'm not going liberty right), Chariot Archers until Collective Rule, one settler, then more Chariots and horsemen until I am out of Horses. I will research Animal Husbandry, then to Roads, then to Horseback Riding, and then what is needed for Chivalry and Astronomy. After that, research can take a side-seat to conquering the map as quickly as possible. Hopefully I can time it right to obliterate my continent prior to astronomy and swimming to continent two.

*conspiracymodeon* assuming there are horses on starting continent :p *conspiracymodeoff*
