SGOTM2 Sign UP Thread

Hi everyone, and welcome to the SGOTM2 Sign UP thread.

The general idea of SGOTM is for competing teams to play a Succession Game based on a GOTM scenario. SGOTM2 is based on GOTM-8 Germany and is set at Monarch difficulty. The game is available in CivIII 1.29f and PTW 1.27f formats. Mac players are welcome to play. The PTW version will play using the 1.29f rule set. The game is unmodded and does not require any downloads other than the starting save.

The game will start on the 15th May, so sign up (either individually or as a team) by posting in this thread. Please note that self-constructed teams are restricted to a maximum of four members to which I may add one or two players for balancing purposes.

Here is the start position.

Here are a couple of links you might find useful.

The original GOTM-8 announcement.
The Draft Constitution.

This month sees some changes to the scoring system. There will be no bonuses for variant play.

The Green Laurel will be awarded to the team that achieves the highest Jason Score - whatever the variant.

The Gold Laurel will be awarded to the team that achieves victory according to the Sponsored Variant rules in the fewest number of turns. Where more than one victory condition is possible the measurement will be made relative to the "best" Jason date for the condition.

The Wooden Spoon will be awarded to the team that has the dubious honour of acheiving the lowest Jason score for the game.

The Sponsored Variant will be different for each game. The team does not have to play the variant. For this game the sponsored variant will be Diplomatic Victory - but you are not permitted to build the UN - by any means.

The individual team threads will be posted on the day of the game starting along with the rosters.

Please Sign UP by posting in this thread. Please include the software version you would like to play, and whether you would like to play the guest variant. If you have not previously played GOTM or SGOTM then it would hep me to place you in the most appropriate team if you state the difficulty level you are comfortable playing. If this is too embarrasing then just PM me. :)

Here are the teams so far

Have fun guys.

Karasu will be running this game for the most part since I am on holiday for some of the time. Be gentle with him ;)

This sounds very interesting MB. I would love to play and I think Team X is going to stick together, at least I hope so. I looks forward to the game. :goodjob:

:thanx: for working on this most excellent event.

Almost :band: [dance] Party Time!!!!!

MB, you mentioned to me the possibility of there being a TDG team through a certain age. Is this going to be the case? If so, I would like to be a part of that team.

Either way, I want to play. I have played and won 2 games on Regent at this point, well on my way to my thrid victory today. I will play PTW 1.27f.

What is the guest variant?

I'm game as well, if Captain and Zamint3 want to continue the partnership. If not then we have vacancies ;) We play 1.29, 'cos I'm a Mac bigot.

i'll play :) either format is fine with me.

edit: saw denyd's post. i'll play with the same group as well, though we may make too strong a team for mb

Sign me up. Either way is ok with me. Variant or not, [civ3] or [ptw]

Pick me...pick me...

I'd be interested in playing with the same bunch if there're interested.

I prefer PTW, but will play either.

I'm wondering why prior GOTMs are being used for these. If someone played these before, then they have an advantage.

I think I am missing something.

Sign me up. PTW or vannilla does not matter. Can we do the same teams as last time.

:wavey:

I'm in. I prefer vanilla. Teams don't matter.

I don't care what the variant is as long as it isn't an XCC.

I also wish to be included, and would like to share the experience with my team mates again. :) Either format is fine with me.

Hi mad-bax. I haven't previously played a GOTM/SGOTM and I'd like to join. I'm participating onhq1: Rise of Egypt(Vanilla 1.29) Emperor at the moment, as a trainee.
I'd like Vanilla 1.29f. I'm feeling more comfortable up to Monarch. I also have C3C, but haven't played that much as Vanilla.

EDIT: In case I'm quailfied, I wanted to inform you that I'll be away from Friday afternoon until Monday afternoon. I'll try to watch what's going on, but I'll be unable to play.
Furthermore, I'd be gracious :) if you tell us(those who haven't previously played a SGOTM/GOTM) what we'll need to download and post a link. Is there any problem with the epic games, if we install all the patches required?

Spleen1015: Hi again :)

The "guest" variant has been renamed to "sponsored" variant and this month will be a diplo win with the restriction that you must not build the UN by any means. Playing this variant makes you elligible for an award that is not available to those that choose not to play to the sponsored variant rules.

The maps are from prior games of the month. It was how the idea was conceived, and yes people who have played them previously are spoilered. Gradually however things will change....

Maybe at some point custom maps will be developed for SGOTM. I would only be prepared to do this if I could balance "vanilla" and PTW which can be done using the GOTM game packs. For those that have not previously played GOTM it requires a 15 to 20Mb download depending on version, and ATM the download is fragmented. In other words you have to download 1 file, install it then download a sequence of patches to get to the right place. It's easy to do in fact, but some people don't like it.

So, we need to get there first. We are still feeling our way a bit and I am willing to settle for competence before shooting for perfection, and I hope the other players can put up with that for now.

:wavey: Count me in! Vanilla or PTW, Variant or not. Makes no dif to me, as long as I can find a spot on a team...

Count me IN :D,

version to be decided.

I'm glad I just read the post by Space Oddity. My first understanding is that the directed victory was to be that we had to win by a UN victory and that we could not be the owner of the UN. Being able to let someone else build it and then taking it is a much different (easier) task.

Count me in for a PTW team.
