To download the saves, please visit this link.

Note:

This game is a Classic GOTM! As such, the rules are somewhat different than they have been for recent GOTMs.

Firstly, there are no custom resources. As such, vanilla players will not be required to switch the resources.pcx files as they have had to do for other recent GOTMs.

Secondly, differential naval movement is off. No more zipping across the amp on the trade winds!

Thirdly: PTW players require no dowloads to play this game => it should be fully playable with an out-of-the-box installation of PTW. However, should I have overlooked something and you get an error message, then please let me know ASAP so that I can identify what is required to get you going again!

For Mac and Vanilla Civ players, you will require all the GOTM downloads, in order to ensure that you have ALL the PTW-Equivalanet civs installed. Please PM me or e-mail me if you require assistance. Mac users should bypass my hinderance, and report straight to AlanH!

Note that some rule changes are still being used: defensive freeshots for archers, modded values for marines, some lethal sea and air bombardment as examples. :)

Please ask here if you have any questions!

think you very much ainwood, i will enjoy this game

The PTW downloads all went to a scenario folder, so you'll be fine. Besides, they may be needed next month or the month after that and you wouldn't want to have to download them again.

Hmm, no extra downloads or other stuff. I think I'm gonna check this out, it's going to be my first GOTM :) .

I have Civ3 v1.29f (vanilla), and all GOTM add-on packages previously installed. When I play this GOTM, resources don't show up as they are supposed to. (The graphics show a different resource than the terrain actually contains.) What should I do?

Got it as well, after a couple of months looking at this forum I will have a try.

Thanks ainwood

Kudos on this Ainwood! This should bring in some new players, which will help to preserve the classic GOTM. I, for one, have no intentions of buying Conquests, so I will depend upon the classic GOTM for my fix.

Thanks!

So if you currently have vanilla Civ3 patched to play gotm31 you just need to revert the resources.pcx and resources_shadows.pcx files back to the standard out-of-the-box ones. These are probably stashed away in a folder called "Before GOTM xx" where xx might be 21, but no guarantees ;)

EDIT: They may be in \Civ3\Art\resources_storage\

If you can't track them down come back and download the ones attached below.

First-timers: Be advised that there are a few changes

- archers/longbows bombard
- archers/longbows get a zone-of-control free shot like cav
- archers/longbows can kill with bombard!!!!
- marines are 12 offense, up from the usual 8.

They were there, thanks! I've know played a bot, and the game suddenly crashes for no apperent reason. I have reloaded the autosave twice, and it crashed each time (for a total of three times). Is there anything I can do?

If you have any more information about the crash - error messages? when it happens? A save file that consistently does it? PM me or ainwood and we can investigate. Otherwise, all I can suggest is .... re-install?
