The wild speculation can end, and the semi-informed speculation and strategy discussions can start.

With some creative editing / merging, I have incorporated the wild speculation thread into this one. :)

The link to the game announcement page can be found here.

Please note the point that I have not yet released details of the specific bonuses / disbenefits for predator and conquest class games.

The starting screenshot:

Now, go ahead and discuss what you think might be in the game, what your initial strategies will be etc.

But oplease note: Once you download the starting save game file and open it to begin play you may no longer participate in this discussion thread.

The save files will be available at the normal time (midnight central US time on Jan 31st / feb 1st).

Before ainwood opens a thread for the GOTM 28 pre-game discussion that spills some of the beans, what do you expect to find in his maiden effort?

We already know at least the following:

•the game does not follow a progression from the preceding ones.
•there will be no new mods.
•the latest patches of Civ 3 and PTW are supported.
•ainwood paid close attention to the many suggestions in the "can we expect changes?" thread, but said he'd make up his own mind.

:mischief:

Re the last point: I don't think we (the staff) have really fleshed-out the future direction of the GOTM yet (including all the suggestions in the 'can we expect changes' thread). Until we do that, I will say that it is largely business-as-usual. Don't expect to see to much of a change to the game mechanics from the last few GOTMs.....

Man, I am so eagerly waiting for the GotM 28, and you should come up with this 'false start' thread that had me thinking the pre-discussion thread was up...

Baad Txurce, baaaaad.... ;-P

I expect the GotM28 to be pretty similar to the Cracker ones...

Hardly! There's usually been a Speculation Thread ahead of the pre-game discussion, where folks could shoot the breeze for a few days about what *might* be about to hit them, before the starting position data is published. This is it!

•there will be no new mods.

Aww, and I thought this was the game where we would get to play as the newly modded New Zealand and dominate the Pacific archipelago! (j/k)

Seriously, I am looking forward to this one, partly because I have NO idea what to expect from Ainwood. It gives the game a suspense all its own!

Civ? I'm getting the feeling we're looking at probably a civ like the Zulu. Perhaps in celebration of 'Black History' month (February). :goodjob:

Map? This is wide open. The pangea was used for Arabia, a few games back, so its probably not an option. GOTM27 definitely offered our seafaring folks a nice rush, but.... there weren't many islands up for grabs.

Conquests features? Please, please, please.

I would love to see an NZ type map with two main islands and many surrounding smaller islands filled with barbarians.

I think that there will be raging barbarians, since NZ was populated with Maoris and there were numerous battles when the Europeans came. - Perhaps for his maiden game Ainwood will use some local knowledge (It is good for me as I am a kiwi too ;))

Ainwood: Is it possible since the "sea faring" ability was introduced in GOTM27 that we (The players) can have that ability

I personally would like to see a slightly quicker game as the last couple have been marathons.

I didn't post on the gotmXXVII progress threads as I went beserk and finished the game by january 5 and decided I needed time off...

Great game cracker.

I have no idea what we might encounter this time but I look forward to it and thanks to all the staff and players who make this a blast.

Ciao

PS. I tried milking the game but got carried away and launched my space ship in 2003 for a firaxis 3620 (I think).

Now that we've played all the Plain Vanilla and PTW civs (plus a few more :) ), I think that the GOTM staff will give us a peek at the Conquest civs.

Conquest offers two new attributes and seven new civs. I'm guessing that the game will introduce a new civ that has existing attributes, which as far as I can tell, leaves the Hittites.

Bring on that Three Man Chariot!

Aye, or the Dutch, seafaring and agricultural. But judging from ainwood's post here we're probably looking at an ordinary, THRILLING game.

Remember also cracker's thread "GOTM will not support conquests initially." It feels initial to me still.

I'd like to play Oda on something in between continents and archipelago. I find random archipelago maps too full of rather useless islands. There should be some bigger ones worth finding and fighting for.

Sorry! The man says there are no new mods. So there are no new civs, and the Hittites are not represented in the existing setup files as far as I can tell.

Like Megalou, I would not mind a real archipelago with some decent island. But I am not to found of the usual infested barbarian island where you need a stack of infanteries just to survive or need to research Marines (non mandatory tech) to land...

Please do :D

AlanH you're right...As Homer (Simpson) would say, "DOH!" (and we all know what cracker would have said!)

I also think that less/lack ressources and luxes is mostly welcome as the fight for it becomes even more critical as in recent GOTM

It would be nice for on GOTM to have another approch.
Like few others civ in order to see how thinks appends with less civ. Each time, we have 9/10 others civs and we have to fight!
That happens if we have only 3 or 4 civ ?
What do you think ?
LeSphinx

Perhaps we will see a Middle Earth Map, Pangea, and start in the Shire. After making alliances with Rohan and Gondor, we will have to fight our way across the map, defeating Sauron's armies and allies, to rescue the princess Arwen (a minor change in plot) and receive her gratitude for our noble work.

I'm looking forward to starting another one, even though I have yet to finish any... There's never enought time in a month!

I'm hoping that our newly appointed leader shall soon make some pronouncements that we rank and file can ponder and then gripe about. Looking forward to it!

Also, as a reminder,

BRING BACK THE QSC!!!!

well, here I sit at work, waiting to go home and finish my gotm 27 by saturday night(superbowl eve :) ).

so with nothing better to do here goes.

Speculation
1. Aztecs or Zulu
2. huge world because we all need to be driven crazy trying to finish by the end of the shortest month of the year.
3. To add to this short month dilema, we will be the lone civ on an Island and all the other civs(lets see, about 22 of them ought to be about right) will be on 2 or 3 larger contininents that we cannot get to without sacrificing loads of galleys. so we will fall way behind in tech.
4. to compensate for these, we will be playing on regent level as we have not played a regent lewvel game since gotm17. this would also make it easier for the short month.
5. we will have very limited resources on this island and we will have to fight for more. I would say we will either have horses or Iron but not both.

any way, this ought to drive us out of our minds:D

Please, don't do anything OneFastWarrior said. NOOOOO! :)

Actually, I wouldn't mind having a whole lot of civs. I liked gotm25 and 26 with the 'minor' civs that allowed for some early wars for good cities. I'm expecting either deity or emperor. I know it was deity in gotm26, but I'm expecting ainwood and crew to try to make us all fail. cough, gotm14, cough ;)
