Here it is guys, my giga. map of The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. I've created this map using the BMPToBic tool, so it is about as accurate as I can make it. You'll notice that I used coastal terrain as the river system in order to make them accessible to boats/ships. Hope you like it.

Thanks to everyone who offered me their suggestions in creating this map.

Enjoy!

Very nice, but a little bland. Use your imagination and vary the terrain! Also, the capital of Arad Doman is Bandar Eban (you have it simply as Arad Doman), Katar is a part of Arad Doman and Emond's Field is spelled incorrectly. I would also recommend placing ruins and barbarians at the site of Aridhol, but that's REALLY nitpicking.

Thanks for the notes on my typos... I was surprised I missed such obvious ones as those.

Now as for the site of Aridhol (Shadar Logoth), I agree, but I was unsure as to its exact location. I have a general idea, but couldn't find it on any of my maps... so please feel free to post a pic for me if you have a suggestion.

Keep the comments coming. Suggestions for mods, scenarios, and units (which to use, I'm not good enough to make my own yet) are welcome too.

Thanks

This should be about right. Also, as the pic says, that area should probably be hills (not along the road, but above and below it).

Just a few things...

Edmond's Field=Emond's Field

The players seem to generate randomly.

For instance, as the Byzantines, I started with Tar Valon & Salidar, but I also got a settler, worker, etc. just SE of Tear. As the Egyptians, I started with Maradon & a settler & worker 1 tile NW of E(d)mond's Field!

Other than that, I  this map :goodjob:

Thanks for the comments.

I've already corrected "Emond's Field," plus renamed the capital of Arad Doman to "Bandar Eban" and reassigned Katar to Arad Doman. I've added Shadar Logoth (Aridhol) to the map as well as barbarian camps in the area around it. I've also made slight modifications to the terrain (a few rivers were choked off before reaching the coast, etc).

The problems you're having sounds like something's wrong with the starting locations... I'll give them a look.

I'll submit a final copy of this map with all these changes when I get the scenario/mod finished... or sooner I guess if that project takes too long. :)

Keep the suggestions coming. Thanks!

It's good but like Cuivienen said a little bland, mix up the terrain. How come the Blight is all jungle, is it like that in the book, I can't remember?

I don't have time to play it right now but I was wondering how using sea for rivers affects gameplay?

Where were you when we started trying to create a MOD. That map is great! I hate to ask, but can that be done in a Large or Standard?? Giga is way to big for my CPU to handle.

I checked on the problems with units starting randomly, and it was because of the player starting locations. They must not have been transferred when I imported the map to the file. I've already fixed the problem for the next update.

As for the blight... I just figured the jungle terrain is what suited best, since the books refer to the blight as creeping in and also since jungle terrain is a cause of disease.

I apologize if the terrain isn't varied up enough. Like I noted, I made it with the BMPToBIC tool for accuracy, but that takes away from the randomness and variety a little. I keep making small alterations as I go, while I'm working on my the mod, so hopefully you'll like the end product a bit more.

Boats/Ships are used for main character travel quite a bit in the book (prior to "travelling" ability), so I wanted to incorporate it into the gameplay. Also with a giga. map, it helps to speed up transfer of military units.

I wish I would have been around while you guys were trying to get the mod going, I haven't been a member here for too long. What happened to it? I've been working on one myself. Right now I'm trying to gather all the units for it. Here's a link to that thread if you want to check it out.

I was originally working on a standard size map, but got sidetracked working on this project. I'll most likely pick it back up when this is done.

Thanks!
(and sorry for such a long post) :)

Yeah, I realise you used sea to allow ships but does it create problems because of the fact that you can't cross them with foot units?

It might create some probllems, but I think of them as interesting challenges.
Some solutions:
- units with "traveling" abilities
- using ships as a sort of bridge, instead of just for transport, etc.

Plus, I think this makes rivers more of a defense bonus. In a true scenario, I think it should take armies a little time to cross a river or pass around it. Bridges would be nice in some areas (i.e. Whitebridge), but that would choke off the river from the coast.

Just my humble opinions. :)

At the towns aqnd cities, then, you could have a place crossable by land and by sea for the civ that controls the town. After all, if the Illianers don't want Tairens going up their river, it isn't going to happen. Ebou Dar, Tanchico, Whitebridge, Tar Valon, Bandar Eban and Tear also have commanding positions that could prevent trade by all other civs up and down the river. Just my $0.02.

I also started varying this map for my own purposes -- once I finish (it'll take a while), I'll post it here if you don't mind.

Whitebridge would work... just as long as a city is placed to connect the two rivers. I remember in civ one i cut an entire continent in half by placing a bunch of cities in a line, they got rid of the close grouping, but the concept is still the same. And also, do you think you can incorperate the aiel?

And yes, can you please create a large or standard size. I am doing a giga game now and i am waiting around ten seconds after i pillage a tile... and its not even 400 ad yet.

The way I've incorporated the Aiel so far is by making them a UU loyal to the Dragon Reborn (not their own civ). I know this isn't the perfect solution, but one I like.

Until tjedge1 :) , myself, or someone else out there makes the globe map including shara and the waste, I'm not exactly sure how else to add them in. I'm always open for suggestions though.

----
side note: ala the inspiration from the civ3 website I've considered maybe making them a tradeable UU by connecting them with a resource (possibly tabac) only available to The Two Rivers (and of course all those loyal to the Dragon Reborn and those nations under his banner). Any thoughts?
