Well, time played is not a very good idea. Firstly, Civ / Mac 1.29f players don't have a time played stored in their submissions. Secondly, it would encourage players to simply leave their PCs on when they're not playing (although that should decrease the reload count ;) )

But no, I don't think we want an award like this.

Sorry. Where are ours results? (EsatP and Assura)

When you refer to 'our' results; we noticed that this appeared to be two results from the same person. You were e-mailed about this to clarify it, and we received no response.

If you could please check your e-mails and respond as soon as possible, we can get this issue resolved.

EsatP;

Please contact me via e-mail at gotm@civfanatics.net so that we can sort this out.

Thanks. :)

No! Well done. It must have taken good playing to dominate in 1535. I think the difference in ideal victory date between domination and space race is surprisingly small, but I'm sure this is in perfect order. Deity difficulty (despite the extra settler) and continents makes it just and fair. When you go for space race deity can be an advantage. As for fewer players, I can see a number of dedicated fanatics you beat.

ainwood, in order to get all the times on the board, perhaps we can fill it in on the results page.

Congratulations to the winners on great victory dates, especially Adel and Bremp of course but also HighDesert for his/her incredible gulping of land.

I'm chuffed to bits with a top 10 spot, although I picked the option that the Jason score favoured (conquest).

Adel's 400ad conquest is very impressive, but Bremp's spaceship in 920 is astonishing: is it a record?

Thanks :) I'm curious how many of the top players used the palace rank corruption exploit in this one. (Just want to get a feel on how powerful it was as I've never used it myself).

Bremp obviously used it to spectacular effect. If you look at replays using Dianthus' programme it should be pretty obvious. I don't think its use was widespread, but now I gather it is banned anyway.

I moved my capital to the second continent when I started to invade it, which would have given me some benefit from the bug, but I did the move for what I believe was the legitimate aim of reducing local culture flips and getting some local production. It was pretty near the end of the game anyway when my army was overwhelming. Will I not be allowed to do this in the future?

The bug probably mainly helped longer games (Space etc) in any case.

As you say a more likely problem caused by the bug is that it is now very tempting to crowd a little tighter around the FP than the capital. In the past when people tended to place the FP in an enemy capital and accept the placement of captured AI cities (i.e. far apart) the bug actually increased corruption.

The GoTM26 award :king: would go to ub40 at 190 hr, 14 min, and 27 seconds!
Well I knew that I was addicted to CivIII, but it seems to be much worse than I thought!

But seriously, I started the game the 2nd of Dec at 8.57 p.m. GMT (according to the creation time of my log file) and I finished it the 6th of Dec at 8.05 p.m. GMT (according to the creation time of the submitted file).

That is almost 6 days (and nights), so theoretically if I played 24/7 it would have taken about 143 hr! Which makes 190 hr impossible to reach. Maybe an extra zero has been added to the result sheet by mistake? Maybe it should be 19 hr, 14 min, and 27 seconds? That would be closer to the truth anyway - since I have a work, do sleep at night, and occasionally look at the sun!

I lift my hat for all the winners!:viking:

Yay!!!! actually made it above 20!!! Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that there were fewer players?

There certainly seems to be something wrong. I'm looking into it.

Is there some mistake in the last two columns of the results?

I've been marked down as a Mac 1.29f game with 68 hours taken. Now I realise I may have registered with the wrong game type (I should be a Civ III 1.29f), but even the Mac version does not record length of time.

Any ideas as to what's up?

Same remark. There seems to be only one civ3 game and an awful lot of Mac games now :D

@grahamiam, you do realise that the palace rank corruption exploit is no longer allowed in GOTM don't you? See Palace Corruption Exploit

@ainwood, It might be an idea to re-sticky that thread and/or add this to the list of banned exploits on the Code of Conduct page. Currently new players could be excused for not realising this is banned!
