Simple question. I upgraded from Vanilla to BtS. In my current game I'm getting +2 :hammers: for all my religious buildings (running a state religion) and I can't figure out why. They all show as +1 :), +2:science: and +2:hammers: in the city screen. (I built the U. of S.) I think I've gone through all the wonder and civic descriptions and I can't figure it out. It's driving me crazy. What's giving me this bonus?

AP gives +2 hammers for the buildings in it's religion.

Thanks. It didn't occur to me it my result from something built and controlled by a rival civ.

Better read up on the effect of the AP cos it also brings in the early diplo win into the game, so if you are not aware of how it operates you might suddenly find yourself losing to the AI on the diplo front.

I've been playing a lot of emperor games using spiritual leaders just for this boost. Ramses of Egypt possibly has the best trait synergy for this. Industrious helps build AP as well as Stonehenge or Oracle to get the great prophet to bulb Theology(not to mention UB to run early prophets, and Spiritual for the cheap temples. The strategy has worked amazingly well some of the time, other times not so much.

In simple step form
1. Get a great prophet and bulb theology
2. Build the AP
3. Build a temple and monastary in each city (slavery helps here)
4. Get to Paper, build University of Sankore
5. Bulb Divine Right(two bulbs, or 50/50) then build Spiral Minaret

If you can get all three of those wonders you're in business. Before AP this strat was lackluster, but the extra hammers are NICE. Each building is giving +2hammer/+2commerce/+2 science. That's +4/+4/+4 in each city, but it's the hammers that make the most noticable difference. Then the Shrine also counts, and cathedrals also. U of S and S.M. are both double production with stone, so stone helps. Also chances are you got christianity when you bulbed theology, and christian cathedrals are double production with stone too. (if you used that religion) My favourite part of this strategy is how fast you can get new cities up and running if the first two things you build are temple/monastary. Hammer-wise it's a free plains mine, BUT no one has to actually work it to get it. This allows more flexibility in production if you're running cottages or specialists.

Yes they do.
