Welcome to the 6otM107 Opening Actions thread.

STOP - Please do not continue reading this thread until you have completed at least 80 to 100 turns in your game.

This thread is used to discuss the game once you've started playing through your first 100 turns. Apart from normal decency, the only posting restrictions are to please not post videos until the deadline is finished and to use the spoiler tags for screenshots. Here you can post questions related to the game and share your achievements/anger/frustration/victories while you play. Please remember that we are running a family friendly site, so express anger or frustration with this in mind.

Please use this thread to discuss your goals for the game and your opening moves through the first 100 turns. Anything after that should be posted in the After Actions thread once you have completed your game.

- What was your plan for achieving your VC? What are the major steps you planned to take? What events, if any, changed the plan in execution and to what new plan? Any interesting decision points?
- How did the leader bonus and civ unique ability impact your plan/play, if at all?
- Where did you settle your capital city? Why? Your second city? Why?
- Early order for technology/civics? What did you prioritize for technology/civics?
- What was your early build order in your capital and other early cities? Military units / Civilian units / Districts & city development / Wonders / Civ Unique Unit & Infrastructure? Most critical or interesting?
- Pantheon chosen and why? Religious beliefs chosen, and why?
- What governments did you select? What policy cards did you use? Why?
- Which Governors did you choose and why did you choose them?
- How long did it take to find your neighbors? What did you do for early diplomacy/trading? Peace or War (and by you or them)?
- What City-States did you meet and which ones did you nurture to your side?
- When did you have Dark/Golden ages?
- How did the game modes affect or impact your play?

- How were the Barbarians?
- Any surprises/frustration/elations?

Please use spoiler tags for any surprise details you'd like kept hidden. Thanks.

Started out nicely enough. Scouted with my Warrior right into Egypt and stole a 2 charge Builder on Turn 7. Egypt had Barb problems from the outset, and I was able to take Ra-Kedet and Akhetaten from them in the Ancient. Lots of beautiful tiles for Lady of the Reeds pantheon and started laying the groundwork for a Work Ethic, heavy Production game.

But then I had to spend the entire Classical trying to tame a Tiger Fang Barbarian Camp. And being driven back. Again. And Again. Oh look, they have Crossbowmen on Turn 65! I lost track of how many Hammers worth of Swordsmen and Xbows this Camp threw at me. I even dumped 660 Gold to them to Incite them to attack Zulu, which did absolutely nothing.

I'm going to go drink a beer and see if my will to continue returns. This new mode on Deity is worse than Raging Barbarians.

I started of with some scouts, who found quite a few villages and some natural wonders too. Expanding my empire to the east. No problems with barbarian camps for me, because there are city states and other civilizations in between. I got my own religion and managed to create the Petra wonder. This may become the first deity game that I will actually play until the end.
At this moment (turn 112) I am at war with Egypt (Cleopatra always declares war on me, in this game I actually paid something for peace, but after a while she just declared war again). Luckily my reign is easy to defend, as can be seen in the screenshot. My five archers can take on any attacker and kill it before it even knows what is happening.

So, what's next: probably expand some more to the south and east. Create missionaries and apostles to spread the word (hopefully to get a golden age, any city that is converted for the first time gives me two points at this moment). civgotm.PNG I am not planning to go conquer any other cities.

I will not be submitting my final results this month as I restarted..... I forgot how aggressive the AI is on Diety, so this was a learning experience for me (coming back up to speed on Civ and Diety; first Diety game on Civ 6). Also, I do not like Egypt as a neighbor. I was surprised by the aggressiveness and restarted to swap out the build queue from settler to warrior/slingers. This helped and allowed me to take 3 of her 5 cities early on. There were several wonders nearby and a few barbs. They did not bother me much as I had the military built up for Egypt. Lots of trading early on to try to get gold to catch up.

Side note, I am not sure I lost much time in expansion waiting for the settlers. By the time I got there, my main city was a level 4 and production was pretty good.
