I don't understand something about creating great personages...

Why in EVERY turn i read that a new great personage has been created, but not in my civ... but yes in the computer's

maybe in a whole game i've got at last 10 great personages... but the computers i'm sure they have got each one at least 30! because in everyyyyyy turn i read at least 1 message about a new great personage...

and... in those games i'm always the first in points! i mean i'm the best, but i'm the last in having great personages

and i'm who has most wonders!

why's that????

i think maybe i should become some normal city workes to specialist

or???

help me! I need great personges :(

Well yeah! Other than Wonders, that's the only way to get GP points. It sounds like you're just not running enough specialists.

Great persons don't reflect how mighty your nation is or how well you're playing. If you want more great persons, I'd recommend making a "Great Person Farm" or "GP farm". This is a city where you focus on bringing in a lot of food - by farming as much as possible and preferably having access to a few food resources. In this city you'd put National Epic, and build buildings that allow specialists. Using this GP farm alone you could pump out a lot of great persons.
If you're interested there are many threads and articles in these forums concerning GP creation and GP farming.

Willem ===> thanks, yes i'm not running enough specialist, only which are made automatically clicking on the center city map, or when population is higher than 20 people, maybe because i'm used to civ 2 and 3 :) where specialist where much fewer important

PieceOfMind ====> thanks! yes it's a good idea, and this national wonder is one of the wonders i build the last, i don't know why, but now i will build this in a high population city

and... then what i don't understand well is in the city window, some specialist are into a yellow square, why's that??

and about some principles, it says it give you some free specialist or no limit, but if they give you free specialist, they are from the city population who stop working in next plotes, or they are specialist who are not count in city population?

The specialists in yellow squares are forced specialists. That is, no matter what your city governor wants to do these citizens will remain as specialists. If you click the little (-) button beside them you'll reduce the number of forced specialists.

Anything that gives you free specialists gives you specialists that don't eat any food. The Great Library gives you 3 scientists and the Mercantilism civic gives you 1 free specialist of your choice in every city. These free specialists are not taken from your city's population.
Having no limit for the number of specialists means you can assign as many of them as you like, given you have enough food to support them. Caste System allows you to have unlimited specialists of certain types. Remember each ordinary specialist eats 2 food.

Don't rely on the governor to run your specialists for you, you'll end up with a lot of Hammer producing ones like Engineers and Priests. It's not really very good at selecting a good balance. One suggestion, once you start building Libraries, run at least 2 Scientist in a city that can spare the food. Great Scientists are the best to get, they can really help your game. When you get the first one, have it create an Academy. The extra 50% beakers can really help your research.

In Civ 4, it really helps to run some specialists early in the game, they're finally an important aspect of a city due to the Great People points they generate. Some people have cities that do nothing but support them, called the Great People farm. Myself I like to specialize in certain cities. I'll have all Scientists in one, all Priests in another etc. It gives you more control over what kinds of Great People are generated. A GP farm you have to settle for what comes out and hope it's the one you wanted.

You'll only see this if you have Automate Citizens turned on. It just means that those specialists have been selected by you and the AI won't do anything with them.

thank you to the 2 :)

i will look to the city with the highest food production and start making scientist specialist

i got the idea :) thanks

i hope now i will create more specialist

Pacificism will increase the currant GP rate 100% if you can afford it. If my army has been busy and my number of units are temporarily low it can be useful to get some GP for the Golden Age.

in all my games if i don't choose pacifism, my army cost is always 0, it means all my units are free cost :S

is it because my army is not too big??? or they are always free until you choose pacifism?

It means your army is small. All units cost at 1 gold each except in Pacifism, except for a few free ones. You'd better work on that or you'll have a civ that's stronger than you "paying a visit". It's a good idea to keep an eye on your power graph in the Info screen. If you're at the bottom of the scale, you're ripe for invasion by just about anyone.
