Anyone had their native allies actually help during the DOI?

I haven't noticed them helping at all unless the REF strays very close to their villages, and I had a French game with like 4 Tribes fighting with me.

I think essentially this is an AI issue. My lone WoI experience thus far went much as described above: had 3-4 defensive pacts (playing as the French), but the natives only really helped if the REF attacked their settlements (which happened repeatedly, since the AI landed the REF in multiple locations, e.g. in Quebec for a march around the 'Great Lakes' to the RW eastern US where my settlements were). Hadn't tried gifting guns to the natives in this game, as I was busy using guns for other priorities, but that 'should' help. The natives have advantages in the wild, and guns/horses 'should' help them... IF they actually attack the REF when it is out in the open, as a reasonably competent military commander would try to do. However, attacking settlements should be a different story, and the natives should reasonably be disinclined to suicide themselves against overwelming odds.

Do you offer the rum in the diplomatic screen???

Yes.

I went on to sell surplus horses to some of the tribes.

Then I took out the Dutch and french to gain experience, and lost my defensive pacts. The upside was that without competitors I started collecting founding fathers, and they improved my native relations. I had defensive pacts with four tribes. I started selling them horses and guns, figuring to make a difference when WOI finally came.

As I ramped up my Liberty Bells, my borders expanded, one of these tribes gave me their cities and vanished from the face of the earth.

I may run out of time before I can get the war started. We'll see...

I have defencive pact with Incas. They have 2 settlements near my cities. When WoI starts REF wipe both villages in single turn :)

No any reinforcements come from other villages.

Maybe the Indians are confused if there are no enemy-held colonies. When I'm playing strongly, REF units are disposed of within one turn of their landing. I can see why Indians would have a hard time knowing what to do. I'm guessing that they don't bother moving Braves in the direction of MoW's on the coast; that would be fruitless. But if the AI would just cause them to loiter around my colonies during the WoI, that would be great.

I've been able to get the REF to attack my Indian allies by leaving a cannon zzz'ing in their settlements. However, I don't think that the subsequent combat worked correctly. I -think- that when they killed my cannon, they razed the settlement without fighting the defending braves. I can't be sure, but I have a suspicion.

 Another great idea Dead On Arrival. I had that one too, but I haven't used it yet. Is there a combat log in this game to settle some of these questions?

ha thanks. If anybody can tell me how to get a combat log, let me know

My combat log is empty. I'm guessing we don't have this feature.

As for my game, I failed to reach 50% LBells before 1992.

Probably too many immigrants and hired specialists, compared to native converts and natural-born colonists.

I'm going to return to CIV. Maybe I'll try Colonization again when I need a break. That will give me time to ruminate on the game, time for Firaxis to patch, and time for some mods to be created. There is a lot of potential here.
