Blackened Skies

Han China here.

While we agree that perfidious Albion poses a grave threat to global peace, it is not the view of the United States Government that even the English would threaten neutral shipping. That seems an extreme position to take.

Further, the United States has no intention of pulling the wool over Romanian eyes, but rather proposes to have its agents purchase the fuel at a point which is agreeable to their account books, inclusive of whatsoever shipping costs as the Romanian exchequer might incur.

Finally, the United States categorically rejects the terms of sale proposed by Romania as offensive. The United States is an equal to the other parties and consequently requests an equal share of fuel. Our money is as good as the Socialists, better really since it doesn't stink of Godlessness or Violent Revolution.

The Danube could prove to be complicated, since Romanian-Hungarian relations are "bad".
If the US send their own tankers to import Oil from Romania, feel free to do that.
We will Export 1 million tonnes of oil and petroleum products this years and I'm sure that the Great will be able to divide them between each other.
As long as there is no conflicts, our tankers won't need any protection, thats true.
We don't want to favour any factions, anybody is free to buy its share from our exports.

The US applauds the Romananian Governments stance as a responsible and prudent move to maintain her neutrality and facilitate free and godly trade.

We'd like to make an inquiry: with the mobilisation of UK lowered to normal levels, would it be safe to assume that USA is doing the same, as well?

OOC: I think the numbers you gave for oil exports are incorrect. I recommend that it be kept abstract.

The UK joins with the US in applauding Romanian dedication to neutrality and the guiding influence of the free market and is sure that UK oil distribution companies will work with Romanian producers to distribute oil across the kingdom in a way that will prove profitable to both the UK and to Romania.

You all aren't allowed to use this for your diplo or rhetoric purposes until you post your own intro posts. (thats not true but if i'm putting my neck out there, so should you)

The National Unity Coalition the Black-North conservative-fascist coalition

Like fascists everywhere, the NUC are more about theater than they are ideology or political action. They march around shouting about the “weakness that has infected our once great kingdom” denouncing vice, criminality, ‘un-British’ behavior and values, and the fall of social hierarchy and the associated order. They angrily shout a lot of slogans and practice outstretched arm salutes and do their best to intimidate those that don’t agree with poorly defined ideologies.

But they have to stand for something right… even ‘big tent’ fascism must have some sort of ideology? This is an attempt to define some of the NUC values.

National Identity and Values

The National Unity Coalition believes in the superiority of the Anglo and especially Anglo-Victorian cultural identity. They argue that the failures of recent governments and the British people in the last generation is due, in large part, because we abandoned the proven British values of stoicism and strength, social and personal restraint, strict social code of conduct, defined hierarchical relationships, and the rule of law and order.

While the NUC embraces traditional social and cultural values, like the Victorians they seek to emulate, they also embrace progressivism, adopting Taylorism and encouraging the appointment of technocrats within government and progressive leaders in industry. Black has stated, "we have to face modern problems with modern minds, we should then be able to lift this great economic problem and national emergency far above the turmoil of party clamour and with national unity could achieve a solution adequate to the problem and worthy of the modern mind.” Wordy- but the point is made; in economic affairs especially they are progressivists; un-ironically this is also in keeping with reactionary Victorian ideals where modernists policies dominated economic thinking.

At the base of what the NUC are, you’ll find a mixture of traditional, “Anglo-Victorian” values and “modern”, progressivist, organization. Of course, because its fascism and its structure so clearly proto-military, it inherently values militarism and the ‘strength of arms’.

But mostly its about theater and shouting and marching around and “change for the better”.

Traditionalism and the Monarchy

As articulated by the Black-North coalition, the strength of the British people and its superior culture lies in its sense of order and hierarchy and at the top of that hierarchy necessarily lies the British crown. And so the NUC are strong supporters of the Queen. The oft-repeated pledge of the Black and Tan includes "absolute loyalty to the Crown" with the aim to "in every way maintain its dignity".

As part of the ‘return to greatness and the purging of the cancer of weakness that has infected our great kingdom’ the NUC has advocated for a reversal of the liberal’s 20-year old Parliament Act. This reversal would strengthen the appointed executive, and in particular, the crown, and ‘return dignity and strength to our once great institutions’.

At the same time, the NUC seeks to strengthen the executive of the Prime Minister’s and reduce the factionalism and disunity of the House of Commons. These new ‘executive powers’ are meant to curtail the ‘steady erosion’ of the dignity of British values by the incessant squabbling and arguments of this House.

And while liberals and republicans might bemoan the perceived attack upon democracy in the kingdom, the Black and Tan’s polish their cudgels and decry the ‘Un-Britishness’ of an increasingly intimidated, and silenced, opposition. For the majority population, the theater and charisma of the fascist movement and their calls for the ‘return of British greatness’ easily drown out the intellectual, and often dryly academic, voices of the liberal republicans.

Race, Culture, and Colonialism

The theater of fascism necessarily requires an ‘us’ and a ‘them’, a pure ‘national’ identity to emulate and an ‘alien other’ to avoid and scapegoat. In some cases this can be based on racial appearance- white and brown or what-have you, but the NUC did things differently.

For the NUC culture creates national and racial differences- not genetics. Any people who emulate and embrace the Anglo-Victorian ideal and values will necessarily succeed, the superiority of their adopted values uplifting them with its principles of restraint, order, hierarchy, and quiet pride.

It is for this reason, the NUC points to the Imperial Dominion of India not as an example of the dirty ‘other race’, but as a celebrated success story, an example of the uplifting influence of the Anglo-Victorian culture upon a people who would otherwise squander potential and opportunity. The traditional ‘Jewel of India’ remains a shining gemstone to the NUC, proof of the success British culture can bring throughout the colonies.

Totalitarianism

Black and North have not shied from “totalitarianism”. The term "totalitarian" had initially been used as a pejorative accusation by Britain’s liberal opposition, that denounced the fascist movement for seeking to create a total dictatorship. However the NUC responded by accepting that they were totalitarian, presenting totalitarianism from a positive viewpoint. Black describes totalitarianism as seeking to forge an authoritarian national state that would be capable of realizing the return of British greatness, to forge a powerful and modern Britain, and to create a new kind of citizen – the neo-Victorian, politically conscious, militarily-invested- Britain.

Economics

British fascism, based in part on the successes of Turkey, promotes a corporatist economic system whereby employer and employee syndicates are linked together in associations to collectively represent the nation's economic producers and work alongside the state to set national economic policy. This economic system intended to resolve class conflict through collaboration between the classes.

Importantly, the NUC is not anti-worker or anti-labor. The British economy cannot serve the capitalist; it must serve the state and the crown. At the same time, it cannot serve the worker or its unions. Both capital and labor must unite to serve the nation.

The NUC critique of communism lies not with its strengthening of the laborer or its unions, but primarily with its anti-national, revolutionary (Ie- government toppling), rhetoric.

Religion

Black places the blame for the reprisals between Catholics and Protestants in Ireland upon the ‘factionalist’ policies of the former liberal governments. He advocates complete religious toleration, insisting that British of all faiths must serve Britain. The ‘Irish issue’ as seen by the few thoughtful NUC is one of ‘misplaced nationalism’ and ‘treason’, not religion. For most though it’s about shouting and marching around and smashing some heads.

The pronounced ideology has proven popular amongst British Catholics who see in the NUC a door into British politics, even if it is only to exploit membership for their own, no less factionalist, goals.

Nope numbers are correct romanian oil production in 1926 was over 3 million tonnes

OOC: This may be true, but as Shadowbound says, let's keep it abstract for now. Please include your research regarding oil production in your orders.

Can changing military stance and tactics upset certain ideology groups?

For example, if I adopt the Police doctrine, would that upset liberal/democratic ideology groups due to increased government surveillance and police presence?

OOC: It certainly can, though as with most things it depends on how you use it. If you use a Police doctrined force to spy on, like, gypsies mainly, most folk probably won't care about it. If you use it to build the Ministry of Love, that'll rub folk the wrong way.

The Sublime State of Turkey/Türkiye'nin Yüce Devlet

National Identity and Values:
Turkish nationalism, Pan-Turkism, Populism, Anti-socialism

Urban and rural life
Under the Ottomans and the First Republic the cities led the way in modernization and expansion of civil liberties such as suffrage for women, secularization and language reform. This angered by rural residents who felt the pace of change was too fast and disrupted the traditional lifestyle and economy. After 1922 power has been entrusted to local elites, usually members of the UTC. Rural elites and police forces can depend on support by the Home Guard militia (Ev bekçisi) composed of military veterans and reservists. Rural residents still engage in agriculture, mining and limited manufacturing just like their parents with both men and women laboring together. However, the rural economy has grown thanks to technological investment and public works such as electrification, irrigation and roadway expansion.

Cities continue to draw in rural migrants wanting more job opportunities and better pay. This has led to the growth of massive crowing slum areas around most cities as housing remains in high demand and short supply. This is slowly being corrected by public housing projects and slum clearing programs. Expansion of mass transit along with health and safety was one of the first programs the new government enacted post 1922. Most cities host modern conveniences familiar to European and American visitors such as cinemas, music halls and night life. However, it is advised that foreign tourists, especially un-escorted women avoid certain areas after dusk.

Culture
The First Republic initiated a series of radical reforms in the country's political, social, and economic life that aimed at rapidly transforming Turkey into a modern state. A secular legal code, modeled along European lines, was introduced that completely altered laws affecting women, marriage, and family relations. The Republic insisted on cutting links with the past considered anachronistic. Titles of honor were abolished. The wearing of the fez, which had been introduced a century earlier as a modernizing reform to replace the turban, was outlawed.
Literacy rates have improved in all areas with increased educational spending. History has been revised with a more information on the Turkish identity. State sponsored cinemas and plays based on military values such as bravery and self-sacrifice are popular. Poetry, literature, art, architecture and cuisine remains as popular as in the days of the Ottoman Empire. Sports such as wresting, swimming and football have gained state sponsorship from the (Yurtsever Gençlik/Patrotic Youth) to promote health and well being.

In many households the women run the house along with the extended family while the men tend to outside affairs. This does not mean the women are uncultured or not worldly, many of them run small businesses along with the family accounts and supervise domestic workers. Young men and women are usually kept separate in public settings with young girls having a chaperon, usually an older female. This does not stop all activities however.

Government and Economics

The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (Turkish: Türkiye Büyük Millet Meclisi), usually referred to simply as the TBMM or Parliament(Turkish: Meclis), is the lower house of the legislature. There are 300 members of parliament (deputies) who are elected for a four-year term from 100 electoral districts which represent the 100 administrative provinces. To avoid a hung parliament and its excessive political fragmentation, a party must win at least 15% of the national vote to qualify for representation in the parliament. So far the only political party that has an qualifies is the UTC (National Turkish Front/Ulusal Türk Cephesi). Parliament is responsible for legislation concerning civil and criminal justice, police, armed forces, education, intellectual life and relations between the central government and the provinces

The Council of Corporations (Şirketlerin Konseyi) is composed of nine corporations who elect 60 members for a two-year term. Responsible for laws regulating business and commerce, labor relations, public services, transportation and merchant shipping, tariffs and trade, public works, medical and legal professions. The nine corporations are Industrial and Agricultural Workers, Seafarers, Employers, Industrial and Agricultural Technicians, Private Bureaucrats and Administrators, Teachers and Students, Lawyers and Doctors, Civil Servants and Co-operative Workers, Membership of a corporation is mandatory for all employees.

The President is elected for a four year term by the combined Parliament and Council of Corporations with no term limits.

Any large corporations such as banks and shipbuilding are state owned and managed with the economy being centrally planned. Unlike socialist economies there are no production quotas or restrictions on type of goods that can be produced. Private investments and profits are also allowed with limited restrictions. Small and medium size businesses are left alone to rise and fail with the majority of the businesses being family owned.

Executive
Executive power is vested in eight ministries; Foreign Affairs, Treasury, Education, Police and Justice, Defense, Public Economy, Labor and State Security.

Justice
The Court system is composed of various courts from Criminal Court to Civil Court, Labor Court, Provincial Courts and the highest level is the Supreme Court.

Religion
Unlike the previous Ottoman Caliphates the state does not endorse Islam or any particular religious doctrine. There are no religious schools or universities in the State and there are no tax exemptions for religious organizations or clerics. While the majority of people in the state are Muslim there are various religious groups that reside within the country. While people are allowed to worship in their own homes proselytizing is prohibited. Any religious meeting with over five people attending will probably be monitored by State Security.

Ruhr FAQs

Q: Who leads the Ruhr?
A: Wolfgang Jäger, Chancellor of the Collective Republic, Chairman of the Collectivist Party and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.

Q: What is the Collectivist Party of Germany?
A: The only legal political party in the Ruhr, whose members run the offices of government, and through which the working class deliberates on government policy. The Party's leadership is predominated by officers of the Red Army. The Party officially endorses Collectivism as the belief system of the state.

Q: What is the Red Army?

Q: What is Collectivism?
A: A political philosophy formulated by workers in the Ruhr after the failed workers' crusade. Collectivism promotes violent revolution to overthrow capitalism, supports revolutionary war, and espouses the virtues of central planning as opposed to syndicalism. In particular, Collectivists advocate the establishment of Collective Republics over other forms of socialism; Collectivists emphasize pragmatism on most issues, opposing overly-theoretical socialism.

Q: What was the workers' crusade?
A: The failed military interventions in the Low Countries and around Kiel by Ruhr workers' councils shortly after the Revolution on the Rhine that inspired the creation of the Red Army.

Q: What is a Collective Republic?
