C2C- Resources Discussion and Ideas

Would it be possible to make multiple resources per tile. This would eliminate the limit to the amount of map resources. The only problem I can see with this would be how would you require both resources. Would you have to make multiple improvements, would you have to pick what resource you like more, or would one improvent give both resources.

For a time we sort of had this when some resources (ex. Coconuts) were terrain features. One had to decide if they wanted to collect the resource or the terrain feature. I could see the same problem happening with double resources.

Well this could work with metals/minerals, animals and crops. You could have both, Deer and Elephants on the same plot, which is likely in nature. A Hunting Camp would give both. Same goes for Minarals with a Mine, Stones, Marble, Obsidian... with a Quarry, different animals in a Pasture or different crops on a Farm.

It makes me wonder: is it possible to unconsciously use Great Farmer to place a resource on a resource you haven't discovered yet? (like oil or uranium or other "modern" resources)

No. You can "plant" new resources only on "empty" spots. This way you can use the Great farmer to explore where are hidden resources.

Here is a list of Natural Resources I am surprised we don't have

Part of the problem is that the maps are to small for the number of resources. That is why some are done differently eg as Hydro's buildings eg Zinc. Others like reptiles are handled with the Myth and Enclosure buildings. Others like coral, kelp and sea grass are terrain features.

We did discuss having the map resource as the generic plant for example and then let people build/develop the various strains eg Citrus as the map resource then let nations develop the Orange, Lemon, Lime etc as National or Global wonders that provide a number of them for trade. That causes problems with the wonder limit especially if we limit the building to climates. Actually we are now skilled enough in XML to allow a nation to build a single Orange building that provides a number of orange resource with out it having to be a national wonder.

The elements and Noble gasses are the only ones I really care about, and those can be Manufactured Goods.

For the others I was thinking we could pretend to have them imported by barter/trade or be manufactured.

Almost every vegetable was domesticated from its wild variety so we don't have to have them on the map.

Example:
Avocado Farm
Requires Seed Shop and Barter Post.

Gives 1 Avocado (Manufactured Good).

Edit: Your idea sounds good too.

I'm sure Hydro will think of something lol. I need those Elements for space parts.

@MrAzure

Much of those are at least represented as a building though. See resource vicinity combos.

Example ...

Avocado Farm = Corn + Lemons resources in city vicinity.

Note that the Avocado Farm gives 1 Fruit resource.

Have another list of stuff ...

I m agree with more combo,! Rabbit + Guinea Pig -> Hamster! Prime Timber + Fossils -> Petrified wood! Poultry + Kangooroo -> Dodo! Fish + Gold -> goldfish!

Currently its ...

Hamster Breeder = Guinea Pigs + Corn

Dig Site (Petrified Wood) = Fossils + Prime Timber

No Dodo yet.

No goldfish yet.

Sodium was isolated for the first time in 1807. Salt Quarry is way before that time.

Silicon was isolated in pure form for the first time in 1823.

Calcium was first isolated in 1808.

Thats why they belong at Geology.

I didnt see thosr fruits and veggies les in your HAND readme.

You asking the wrong questions. For instance one doesn't mine for aluminum but instead mines for Bauxite Ore. The processing of the minerals is what becomes those isolated elements.

To get Silicon you process "Silica" (aka Sand).

Lets look at another ... Beryllium Mine

.Because any beryllium synthesized in stars is short-lived, it is a relatively rare element in both the universe and in the crust of the Earth. It is a divalent element which occurs naturally only in combination with other elements in minerals. Notable gemstones which contain beryllium include beryl (aquamarine, emerald) and chrysoberyl. As a free element it is a steel-gray, strong, lightweight and brittle alkaline earth metal.

Note we already have an Emerald Mine. I would like to add an aquamarine mine and a Chrysoberyl Mine seems like it would be good to have as well. But there cannot be a "Beryllium Mine".

Oh I understand, I was going with the discovery of the element, not the source of the element.

Sounds good to add both ,as long as its composed of Beryllium thats all that matters.

Note that we probably should not have a Lithium Mine like we do now. However I am not sure what to have in its place.

I agree, its should be combined to a Rare Earths Mine.

Im happy, out of the 100+ flowers, fruits, and veggies only about 20 were dupicates.

Okay, how do we handle the Noble Gases?
