Challenge-XVIII-10

Thanks, it was a good game...Mansa really sped things along

Comment about the game. I like that its OCC Ragnar. but im not a experienced HoF guy.
By no means a optimal guy for this, but a fun and different challenge.

I Started a testgame yesterday and speed trough it.. mostly to check my recording settings but also to freshen up my OCC Ragnar skills ;)

Settings:
I Included mansa and Justin as leaders.. great techers.. and not so prone to grab any wonders. In retrospect.. Justin can be replaced.. but by who? WvO?

Got the following wonders:
SH, GW, Mids, MoM (engineer), Glib,
National wonders:
National epic, Oxford, Great theater, national Park

Comment on the national wonders.. Hard to do without either.. in retrospect.. might manage to work around the great theater with a better happiness setup.
Decided to try the Moai (had stone) and worked 4, 3f freshwater lakes and one crab nonstop.. that is 5 hammers each turn.. 10 with golden age. In retrospect. i think Iron working would be better.
Don't really need the hammers early.. I need them for spacepartproduction.

Lost lib to mansa.. by far.. so.. I decided that i wanted another start where i use my reflections.. for a more improved time :)

The first and biggest thing... I have to be a little more picky about the start. In top to bottom priority i need to have this stuff in my BFC.

  1. Food, minimum 2x 5f
  2. Stone (can be in 3 ring)
  3. River, 2 tiles or more.
  4. Gems/gold/silver/furs/wine/calender happiness,
  5. Coast

Will hopefully manage to play and record this game tonight :)
Not sure if can post it to the HoF series tho. My buffy seem to have a "corrupt file or something"

I played this about 5-6 times, so my advice would be:

-dont worry too much about Stone, sure it would be nice but it isnt that great, I could usually get to within a few techs of Constitution before I finished mids.
-you need more river, Levee helps so much
-Globe or NP depend on your luck with resources in the 3rd 4th and 5th rings. If I have coal & iron available, ironworks is a massive help. Environmentalism is a must if you get ironworks as no NP.
-NP also means no Alum Co.
-as soon as you reveal aluminium, see who has 2 and make them your best friend, i was never lucky enough to have my own but i did manage to trade for it.

@neilmeister
I actually saw your player log from the 1903 (?) win.. and copied your starting strategy and oracled Civil Service! A nice and fun opening :)
Yeah.. in retro-retrospect i could possible do without the stone.. getting a gem/gold is probably better. It also gives some much needed happiness :)
A early CS probably adds enough hammers for a OK pyramid date.

Here is the game, for those who want to see . if the link is weird, its a link to my channel in my signature:

Spoiler :
Got a win turn 400 @ 1980 after 1,5 hours

@Ozbenno
I get this message as seen in the picture bellow. Have not been able to fix it myself, even after multiple tries. Buffy is a really really great mod, and when i finally got it to work, i been a little afraid of screwing it up :)

Do you have Lock Modified Assets checked on the game creation menu as below

If not, that's your problem.

Thx! that fixed it at least for the lock modified assets part of the problem.

Still get this warning message,

@Imploding.... you have to love Oracling CS.... for low levels it is a must... for higher levels it is usually a huge risk

Impressive date Tonny!

Definitely! Not a lucky 20% launch I hope :D

neilmeister seems to be wiping the floor with everybody overall though ;)

It's only because I get off to a fast start... get a decent date on a map and then move on.

Got a 1900 win, but cannot upload cos i had no idea you also need the starting save for HoF games :)
No biggie thou, uploading the save here if somebody wants to look.
Would you say that's a weak HoF start, with only 1 food resi (also no fresh water was annoying, not many health trades offered) ?
I moved away from clams & iron for gold and ph.

Well, it's a good date My, regardless. Hard to break 1900 with OCC space. And I don't find FIN leaders good at all for this game. Philo or IND is the best..I like Peter and, ofc, Gandhi for OCC space.

Too bad about the start save. You don't have the auto save?

Did you have forests and NP before the watermills?

Yeah, the gold are nice and having wet corn. Another food resource would be ideal, and for OCC space I like a lot of forests and letting them hopefully spawn to for NP/preserves/Environmentalism (which FIN does help a bit with, but rocks Philo). Not sure what forests you had, but the deserts and lake, probably would have been skipping this map - in this case - to many useless/no forest tiles. Fine for other stuff. Not weak, but not ideal.

Yup good date, and most important more fun than i thought ;)
I continued with this game cos i liked that i met all 4 AIs early, also mining from a hut.
Autosave lost yup, but you know me..not big on HoF submitting ~~

Most (if not all even) tiles had forests, made the start look better too.
No River really hurts thou, gold mines can make up for the lost commerce from Fin cottages at start but they also drained food (too) much.

My thoughts on occ, CS Oracle was mentioned already.
Pyras helped, but i guess not 100% needed (GE points are great thou, probably the best settled ones here).
I would probably see Globe + tons of food as the strongest starts, if you can cottage most other tiles and then still run many specialists that should be optimal. So not much changes compared to standard games imo..River + food. With Bur. and settled scientists & Engis, production seems like the least important part until late game (where Levee would also help so much).

One great thing about that map is that you have your own source of aluminum. That is far from a guarantee, and can be a pain to get.

Lacking a river is a big deal. Not due to cottages, but levee and hydro power. With NP and preserves approach, we can't get power through coal, so although it comes later, it's nice to get more hammers for space part building via hydro power. Didn't get that in my attempt either, so if I were to replay (doubt it), I'd look for an otherwise good start, but with river capital.

wow! excellent date, My! ;)

Ty Lymo ;)

I really liked this setting, waited for a map with river & food, that i also had a gold mine made this possible i think.
Made a pic of my start
Spoiler :
While it's a bit slow at start, settler moved 1t then AH first needed, 3x 5 food tiles and many floodplains cottages made this a very strong Bur Cap.
