Now, the fact that they hacked into the White House website is kind of funny, the content itself is lacking though.

now I wonder: the official site is .GOV (this site isn't hacked) and the link is .NET
So perhaps it isn't hackers, but just people who took the domain name and use it to write silly thinks
I agree it would be strange if US Government forgot to take the .net domain, but well, they forgot to take the .COM domain (as LLXerxes experienced !), so why not ?
