CIV V Won't Launch :(

Hello,

I've been looking to solve this problem, but nowhere I can find a solution that helps me.
My problem is that when I open CIV V I get to chose a mode something like Dvix9 or dvix 10 & divx 11. I think you know what I mean. After choosing one of the options (doesn't matter wich) it just closes and that's it. I see it pop up in task manager processes for a few seconds and then it dissapears again.

ps I have also trouble opening CIV 4 also can't play it

I have recently resetted my computer but I think there went something wrong with some drivers.

I'm getting roughly the same thing, where after the intro video Civ5 crashes to desktop with no error. I've tried reinstalling steam/civ5/verifying cache to no avail. It worked fine yesterday.......
I'm sure it has something to do with the recent steam client update.

Edit: I got it to work by creating a new user profile on my win7 machine and running the game from that profile. Interestingly the game still doesn't run on my original user profile. I suspect my issue could be due to the fact I've moved 'My Documents' to another HDD, although I've been doing this for about 10years....

Same happened here, but in Windows 8.1

Another development in my issue is it now works on the original user profile on my machine. I would suggest looking in the logs as for me there was some error about not being able to create a database.

I`ve cleaned up both my logg and in my documents/games/Civ5 but it still won`t load

Some how your laptop is only using the integrated video and not the nice Nvidea 555M GPU. You need to check the Nvidea software to see if either optimization has been disabled or it is set to only use the integrated video. It may be that the drivers have been deleted and need to be re-loaded, if you cannot run or find any Nvidea software.

That may be the issue with the two other posters, but a diag would be helpful in determining the proper solution.

Hi,

I am having the same problem Civ 5 doesn't want to launch on any option. I have a brand new laptop built my CyberPower PC with the new Windows 8.1. I know that when Windows 8 launched originally on my desktop Civ5 had issues with that. I didn't want to launch. I don't want to have to go out and buy Windows 7 again for my laptop. This shouldn't be. There needs to be a team already developing a method to the upgrades that Windows comes out with and Vice Versa. It is very frustrating for users to do this. I hope the problem gets fixed soon. As of right now Civ 5 is the only game on steam that isn't working with Windows 8.1.

I am having the same problem, My game works in full screen in DX9 and windowed DX11. But as soon as I go full screen DX11 I can't get to the first loading screen.I have tried skipping the intro. I have tried reinstalling Civ, reinstalling my video drivers, I read that 337.50 whql beta driver doesn't play nice with civ so I uninstalled it to install 335.25, I have tried validating the files on steam. I Have spent three days looking on Google for a fix that works but everything is about windows 7, Posted on God... and kings... only know how many site to get a Fix . And I finally got a Legal copy of windows 8.1 and it seems to have more problems with games than the pirated copy does... I have had it playing on this PC so I know that My PC is capable of running it. If anyone can help me that would be great. Berlin Needs to have EVERY wonder again

As above, somehow your Nvidea settings have been changed, and it is not being used as your primary GPU.

This is a windows 8.1 issue. You may have to force steam and the game to play in Win 8 or win 7 compatibility mode. Have you tried the firaxis or steam sites on Win 8.1 issues? There are a couple of threads here, but no one has posted any definite solutions ASFAIK.

I have been having this same issue. The worst thing is that my civ 5 bnw used to work before, but now it doesn't launch anymore like it used to. Does anyone know how to fix it? Or what could the issue be? Could it be a virus?

Timtofly If I knew where you were I would Kiss you, It worked. I was using win 7 compatibility on the game exe only but as soon as I did it to steam she started up no problem and running beatuiful :worship:
