GalaxyNES- No Horizons

I'll use the right-hand one of the three in the Lumos Fringe. :)

In keeping with the recent policy shift, [data files on CMC and Collectivity politics enclosed], I have been given authority to request that you allow us to commence a Sanathi colony on the world of Navart. Following the destruction of the Zan Shamai Empire, our policy has always been strict neutrality in the affairs of the Zan, while monitoring the reports of Kara'tash and providing guidance where possible.

Now, however, we are considering a more active role. In return for allowing a small [~2 million] strong contingent of Navartines to begin the restoration of their mother, we are prepared to send you a task force, composed of the city ships Warmaster, Quintessential Shape, and Arbitration, along with attendant support ships. I have the authority to direct military action to support your forces.

We await your response. Peace be to the many.

My actions over recent times have increasingly been leaps of faith. Very well. I am interested in the capacities that your SYSTEM offers, but more importantly, young Kara'Tash assures me that this will be a worthwhile proceeding. You may dispatch your Navartines to their sentiment-laden homeworld. Ensure that they do not disrupt my manufactories, and I shall leave them be.

We sing the stars to sleep: white into orange, orange into red, red into black. We were here at the beginning and we shall still be here when we sing the last star to sleep. When the darkness falls eternal and when we have forgotten all that is, and was, and when we are like unto infants once more, starved of stimuli, we shall sing the stars awake anew. All that is, all that will be, all that there has even been is Wera. Fear us insects, for we are eternal.

I am not authorized to deploy SYSTEM except in a case of existential threat to the fleet, and only then in a limited fashion. Except in extremely localized testing, SYSTEM has not been activated for over a century.

The risks outweigh the benefits of more than extremely limited usage, as even many years after its discovery, the theoretical underpinnings of the device remain poorly understood. Many of its original creators on Kurilate believed that its overuse could induce a catastrophic-scale event that would dwarf even the tales of your ancient cataclysm.

With that said, limited usage seems safe at this time. We thank you for the permission to resettle Navart and will ensure a strict separation.

Specimen S-4-20 through S-4-54: the Bioship.
this.. is possibly the single most significant biological find we have yet stumbled upon. Shiphull-Clustermind 1312, previously living on the hull of the civilian collectively-ship "Tetrahorn". we do not know for what reason it was attacked and boarded by this "bioship" but a large portion of Shiphull-Clustermind 1312 managed to move over to the bioships hull and set up a secondary colony there.
Details of how they managed this was lost shortly afterwords, with the destruction of the "Tetrahorn" by the bioship, and the loss of the core colony. Shiphull-Clustermind 1312 briefly lost sentience with the lost of most of it's colony minds, but managed to re-awaken a mere two weeks later, with sufficient new colony minds grown in and on the bioship to restore it.

unfortunately, by the time it did re-awaken, fatal damage had been done to the bioship by the colony minds, killing most of the ships crew, and consuming it's drive section in a small explosion. Stranded in deep space, Shiphull-Clustermind 1312 prioritized spawning of a warp queen and transmission of gathered data to the swarm mind, then tried to effect repairs.

the attempt was unsuccessful, and Shiphull-Clustermind 1312 eventually self terminated rather then face slow death by starvation. but its efforts, and the information from it's experiments will be forgotten.

Analysis of the bioship reveal it to not be 'key' created, though whatever means that were used to develop it did instill with some resistance to 'key' usage, similar to our own gene-lock proticals. method to bypass it was quickly developed, and it ceased to a problem.

the actual gene-code of the craft proves surprisingly simple, given it's size and complexity, possessing only 134 gene-pairs (compared to our own 102 gene pairs). Isolation of their purpose, along with the dozen or so other symbiotic systems gene-harvested from the craft, is still ongoing, and may take decades of experiments to complete.

Overall, optimization of the craft is a long term project. however, replication of it is almost done, though several critical systems are missing and will have to be developed or replaced with mechanical version in meantime.

We highly suggest approaching the collectivity-species and purchasing such equipment, perhaps even bringing them in on such a project. we might also want to replace several other of the symbtic systems with mechanical ones, as observered performance of them on board collectivity ships is higher.

Hull-001 is almost complete on Ekt, and all but the missing systems should be done by the end of the year there. recommend a plan of action be decided before then.

communication experiments notes:
we have appeared to have suffered a minor setback dud to cultural differences. when head collectivity experimenter began to show early signs of organ failler, Truemind 'ColCon' decided to conduct 'key' optimization on it to insure it's continued participation in the experiment. species-subject's junk-data was trimmed and caped, regressing it back to it's optimal growth-size-age. effects are estimated to keep it there for the next few centuries, at which point an additional treatment might be called for to re-preserve it.

head collectivity experimenter took two days to recover from the event, and since it did, all experiments have stopped, and the collectivity experimenters appear to be in a bit of panic.
We are unsure then experiments will resume, and all but a few colony-minds have been withdraw from the lab until results are determined.

one: baltent theft of the principals behind the bioships. a bit sub-par at this point though, as it's something totally new to them. they have yet to understand what each gene dose. and will take decades before they can.
two: can you guess what they did to that poor researcher?

It appears that I will not be able to finish my update this weekend, so you guys now have another week for writing stories/diplomacy/whatnot.

For my newer players, both Phaska Factions, the T'kavit, and the Shagwa are now all in contact, for better or for worse.

Cool, because I'm still working on some more background stuff for the Shagwa. One or two more background posts to go.

I can and will shamelessly use 'I'm giving my players more time to write stories' as an excuse for my inefficient work habits. ;)

Gan' Ge' Phan awoke from induced coma, checked the date and time, and proceeded into the cockpit of his steerer vessel. He had been asleep for several decades. First things first, he accessed the social feed. Many wanderers were out towing and steering holes to varied spectacular locations in the galaxy, one religious group had formed in the last few years, and a scientific group was buzzing about their usual boring fare but also bragging about a nice rock they were about to colonize. Gan' read some schematics the group leaders had shared and had his ship's fabricator construct this "I'n" drive that the (probably motherless) Nurm was buzzing about. A jury-rigged coolant system and some modification to the suspension had Gan' convinced that he could be at Hon' Tok within the next three thousand hours. He charted the course and prepared for another nap... though admittedly a shorter one. His only concern now was what he was to do with the black hole he was steering ahead of his vessel. No matter, he thought. If left to its own devices, Gan' speculated, it would certainly do well for itself. It would probably find many meals and great glory as it jettisoned through the galaxy. He imagined other wanderers in space enjoying the grandeur of a black hole consuming their star, or the brown dwarfs near their planet, or even the truest glory of seeing their own atmosphere sucked away and their planet stretched into infinity. If anything like that could happen, he was essentially doing that observer a favor, right?

I thought I posted on this a few weeks ago about rejoining as a new species/planet, but I couldn't find my post...anyways, is that okay? I don't know how active I'll be right now (I'd try to get in one story a week if I can) but I really got an itch to write some more stories.

You definitely didn't post anything here recently, this is your first post in the thread in seven hundred and eighty days. ;)

You're definitely welcome to rejoin, either as the Sgligatiki (Worshippers of Izoza) or as a new species of your own creation.

And nice story Anonymoose. :D

Gan' approached Hon' Tok and signaled his intent to the inhabitants. A Nurm by the name of Ano' acknowledged the signal as received via social net.
The landing was relatively painless, and on the way in he noted the purplish hue of this wispy atmosphere, which was particularly attractive. He could see why the researcher Nurm settled here.
He slipped into a rugged environment suit and made his way to the Hess' Peh research station. He noted and gathered image data from the surface. Several (obviously Nurm-made) objects were scattered across the irregular surface; they looked like young Nurm standing on their face and sticking their spade-tail into the air. He received data on the apparatuses immediately after uploading to the Nurm link.
They were slow-rate atmospheric transformers, used by the colonizing Nurm to alter the atmospheric makeup of this rock. It's a pity, Gan' thought... the purple clouds are quite pleasant.

The Collective Coaluqes/Player
Species: Avental. humanoid. 6 fingers, one of which is a thumb on each hand. two arm. heavy on cybernetics. physically as strong as humans, and any other physical abilities are equal, though they have 2 hearts, so they run longer and faster. similar to humans, but taller, fairer looking and their are color changing batches on our face.
History: Not much remembered. Iperial Nasivfad Empire, lobbing nukes around, in an attempt to win a war is the earliest part remembered...500 years ago. Now Avena healed. Now We go to other worlds. We no longer fully organic. --------grammar error fixed---About 200 years ago, we development AI implants, which are now universal among our race, by law. We using them have made a collective mind, over-which we debate....a lot. we wish for peaceful relations...
Those two systems in the Outer Arm would be nice for a starting place.
Color: something blueish

Welcome Daedwartin! I hope that the Avental will become an interesting part of our Galaxy! :)

And everyone, the update is going to be coming some time this weekend.

"Am I... am I dead?"

Yes.

"What."

We apologize for the minor cessation of existence. We were ignorant of your specie's bone structure. We will provide our full efforts in order to preserve it next time. This experience is being recorded for quality control purposes.

"You did what to my..."

We would like to extend our welcome to the Consensus. Depending upon the status of your remaining brain mass and your usefulness, you may have either limited or no self-awareness. Would you like to accept our invitation?

"Hell no! What the he-"

Your objection has been overruled by 99% consensus. Welcome to the Consensus and the Galactic Socialist Democratic Republic, name change pending by 34% and rising consensus. You are our Plausibly Sentient Being # 4 in this subsector. Other plausibly sentient beings include a conglomerate of individual cells known as Kog'Vlad, a four legged mammalian animal with a penchant for using tools, and a mobile plant whose leaves can grow up to 3 feet long. A full Republican Investigative Committee of 16 trillion individual cells will convene in 2 standard cycles in order to verify sentiency. Would you like to identify yourself?

"No!"

I am Kirin, son of Nifta. My specie's name is Kasekral. I was born in the ship and raised in the ship that your consensus took. I am a citizen of the Collectivity of Sanath. It is my duty to spread the light of the Collectivity to all the stars and the people of this galaxy. I am 35 years old. My star sign would be that of the pufferfish. My eye color is brown.

Dear Kirin, thank you for identifying yourself!

"What, ho-"

The Avental had forgotten fear. They had long stood by the maxim There is nothing to fear but fear itself. So as they became a cybernetic collective mind, in which it's members were connected, but independent, they blocked all ability to fear. They would instead when faced with something to fear determine what is needed to deal with it, if to make contact (theoretically, for they had yet to make a alpha first contact), or If needed decide to destroy. As a side effect of their development, FTL communication via quantum entanglement had been prefected over a century ago, as even before they left the system they came from the need for such systems was apparent. They could not maintain such a collective over such distances even then. A few hours was a lot when you think about it. In that time, one could destroy every city on Avena with thermonuclear weapons, like it had once happened before. They before even leaving their system knew they weren't alone. Despite the damage of the thermonuclear war, their was obvious evidence that before the civilization that spawned them, their was a even more advanced civilization, of a clearly non-Avena species. This was where they got the FTL communication systems as well. Their was evidence that this civilization heavily used nanocronstruction to build massive structures in seconds...but it's obvious that they did not record how in the only intact computer. The products of reverse-engineering included their cybernetics, FTL communications, and some metallurgy advances. However, it did not include theorys on FTL travel. this would dominate all scientific developments for over a century, to solve their trapped nature. 2 years ago, a practical drive was finished. 2 days ago...a transmission was intercepted by our exploring fleet of 4 ships. It was clear we had been in just the right spot at the right time, but intercepted none the less. All we determined was it was from the Chorn...and provided no map detail...all we have figured out. Now to find them

OOC: the extraavena species is most similar to the Cybran Nation of Supreme Commander. And we haven't realized it, but everything we have gotten from their relics is all we are going to get out of it.
